Additional fun fact about this song: Taylor made the mom a co-songwriter on this song so that she will always get royalties from it.
Ronan passed in 2011. His Mother, Maya, wrote a blog and this is where Taylor got much of the imagery. After writing it, she held into it for a while and reached out to Maya inquiring if she would be comfortable adding it on Red when it was released. Maya agreed, Taylor gave her co-writing credit. Snd all profits from the song go to fighting cancer. ❤ Beautiful Ronan lives on forever in this amazing song and in our hearts.
Thanks for the honest reaction. Taylor performed this live on a cancer fundraiser concert. She got through it, 'cause that's the professional she is, but you could tell how hard it was. Such a heart wrenching song. It kills me every time.
While she made it through her performance on the stage, she broke down as she was leaving the telethon. There are photos of her leaving in tears with her mother. This song is so heart wrenching.
And she asked Ronan's mom before playing it, or re-recording it. She has always handled it with such grace.

On a happy note 2 years later they had a baby girl, her name is Poppy Ronan Thompson. It is a song that makes one give gratitude for what they have, and not take things for granted.

Pretty sure she has only sung this live twice. First at a cancer fundraiser and the other at one of the concerts when Ronans family was there. She also gave writing credit to the mother.

Ronan's 17th birthday passed recently.
She sang this live for a fundraiser for childhood cancer and she could barely get through it. There’s pictures of her leaving the parking lot after the performance and she’s just SOBBING. 💔
I always cried listening to this song. But now I have a 3 month old blue eyed baby boy, who's sleeping on me right now. I just covered him in tears and kisses.

This song is so.beautiful, raw, and an amazing gif that Taylor gave Ronan’s family and loved ones. She used words from Ronan’s blog and gave his mom cowritten royalties and donations for those kids like Ronan.
Taylor has done many, many things for those around her, around us, around the world but, more than any others, this is the song that made me fall in love with her beautiful heart and giving spirit. Taylor is my favorite celebrity of any others, in any medium.

The live version she did at the broadcasted cancer fundraiser was after she wrote this and also when her mom had been diagnosed with cancer as well. She never sings this one live because it’s so draining on her heart and mind.

I remember seeing this right after the live presentation and a video of Ronan’s Mom telling the story from the beginning until Taylor’s phone call and presentation. I really love this song, but everything about it is very heavy and made me cry a lot too.
I'm so glad you were warned before watching. I had no idea the first time I watched it and I cried buckets! Just FYI, I saw an interview with Ronan's mom. She said that Ronan never lost his smile, even on the last day. Taylor put Ronan's mom down as co-writer. She used the proceeds to set up and fund the foundation.

Man, I first listened to this song when it first came out (was it 2014?) and I cried like mad. I was 15 or 16 at the time, didn't want kids and still don't but this song manages to bring tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

I lost my 15-year-old daughter Leora to cancer in 2003. The first time I heard this song was no different than every time I hear this song😩💦 It touches my heart so deeply and helps more of that pain pour out of my eyes. One of the million reasons that I love Taylor is her ability to affect people just by writing.
