I can 100% relate to the experience danny had with his grandad… It was 3yrs ago I decided to go home and stay at my mum and dads for the night on Mother’s Day. I hadn’t been home to stay for around 2yrs as I’d been working away from home,my dad was a poorly man and had suffered will ill health most of my upbringing so it was really nice to see him on this occasion. 6am Mother’s Day morning my mum came rushing into my bedroom screaming and crying that my dad was gurgling and not responding to my mum. My dad was a 20st 6ft4” beast of a man and I pulled him off his bed like he was nothing so that I could start doing CPR. He died that morning and I can honestly say the whole experience was hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with and still have nightmares about it.
Aww bless you, I truly feel for you. I watched my dad die on the kitchen floor when I was 11 yrs old. The awful horrendous morning, his face neck and chest all purple and blue. The ambulance crew and the doctor really fought to save him. But it was not meant to be. Years later when I was just turned 16 I delivered a baby on the floor in a busy cafe! Which, although I was petrified at the time, but it turned out to be an honour. When one of my sons then aged 19 literally collapsed on the pavement, we were walking back to his flat, one minute we were walking and chatting, it was just ordinary, anyway I put him flat and did cpr until the ambulance and police arrived. They saved my son’s life. A very young PC, three months into his policing job, massaged my son’s heart all the way to the hospital, my son had had 7 cardiac arrests on the trot, plus two more in resus. I did speak with that young cop that night, he was actually quite shaken up by the experience. And I did speak to the ambulance crew. I can’t begin to explain just how grateful I was. Then some years later, my youngest son’s wife had had twins, delivered by c section. Two days later the hospital discharged her. I had some concerns as her feet and ankles had become very swollen and her blood pressure was quite high. I did query it with a nurse, but she wasn’t concerned. The following morning my son rang me extra early asking for help. At first I said don’t be ridiculous, you’re both tired you have two babies a 3 year old you need to learn to cope. I looked at the clock and it was like someone was guiding me, I was in pj’s, but I just put my coat and boots on grabbed my car keys and drove there, very fast. My son opened the door, it was a little terraced house and J was laying on the sofa. At that precise moment she started to fit, I got her onto the floor, put cushions under her head, the fit seemed to calm down but then I realised it wasn’t just a fit it was also a cardiac arrest! The sheer relief when an ambulance and a paramedic arrived can’t be measured. I also once went to the aid of an elderly chap that was slumped in a disused shop doorway. And I really tried to save that man. Sadly he passed away, I’d got into the back of the ambulance with him, I was basically just going to explain the circumstances, despite the cpr, the Adrenalin and defibrillation it was obvious he wasn’t going to make it. I felt awful. I’ve been thanked for saving lives. Like I’m a hero. I’m not, I’m just a human being like everyone else. I don’t need anyone to thank me. Good people jump into action and do their very best. I know how awful it is to lose your father. But I truly believe you need to stop punishing yourself. You did your absolute best. Sadly no matter what, people can’t be saved and that’s absolutely heartbreaking. I think your dad would be very proud of you. Please don’t blame yourself, the hurt weighs heavy in your heart. Don’t allow it to mess with your mind. Many people in a position like you were in, wouldn’t have known what to do, many would be frozen on the spot. Many wouldn’t have even attempted what you did. Bad things happen to good people. Hold your head high, let go of the negative feelings, let the positive memories of your dad, the love and bond flow in. I truly wish you well and I send you inner peace, forgiveness, love and happiness. X
It's lovely that you and your mum were with him though ❤ an opportunity denied to many,I hope you find peace with it all and I hope each day gets abit easier for you both ❤❤
