Thank you for this tip! I was actually thinking about trying this in my head and then I saw this video. I have gotten into a bad habit of dropping my hands during my load up (slow pitch softball) which has caused everything to be off! Gonna try this in tomorrow's game!!
You have to drop the back shoulder to be a good hitter, just make sure you have your weight on your back foot and u will feel the difference, trust me on that one
You can also put your back foot on the net and take soft toss or hit off the tee to teach bat plain. (Throwing the knob straight to the ball keeping your back knee and back elbow in sequence for maximum power output. Power L on contact drive through the ball 6-12 inches and finish high. Hope this helped you some and goodluck!
Great vid. I assume another benefit of this, and you might have alluded to it, is so the hitter can feel the actual progression from hip, knee, chest and finally hands… am I wacked?
Thanks for information, my 9 year has a swing like Ken Griffrey Jr., but if he can get his swing to meet ball earlier, he would transform his game...Any other tips would be appreciated.
NO. Most of the speed of your bat comes from the amazing quick movement of hip/torso/shoulder turn. The arms arms are attached to the shoulders and they spin even faster because of geometry. There is a bit of wrist snap (like swinging a hammer) at the very end that adds additional speed. What is much slower is trying to push or reach out with the bat rather than pull and throw the bat.
Question: I have heard it said to the kids many times to keep the bay off their shoulder, now I’m confused as to which is correct. Can you please explain? Thank you.
The bat on the shoulder is ok. The main thing here, it’s to make sure you have the proper shoulder tilt according to the pitch and the bat will come off the shoulder eventually.
Not to step on anyone's toes here, but This Technique of the bat against the shoulder then on top was created by Mike Epstein 30+ years ago and his son Jake has improved upon it. Moy does a good explanation here. Also, Joe Brockhoff from Tulane used the same technique in his Super 8 Hitting System. Coaches/dads/moms say this because they have heard it form others. If you watch MLB hitters you will notice the bat 'handle' generally stays between the neck and the outside edge of the shoulder until the barrel releases from that area. Obviously, there are exceptions to the rule and varying pitches, locations and adjustments affect this, but a great place to start especially if you have a player the pushes too far back or leads with the top hand arm elbow which then causes the barrel to drop below the plane of the pitch during Approach. Moral of the story: Train with the bat not he shoulder and if your player is comfprtabrle with that leave it there even in games. Now, if this is going to piss the coach off to where it affects the players game time, just barely lift the bat up or 'bounce' it on top of the shoulder...good luck. Oh, and many people try and discredit that which they don't understand,
You can apply this drill to your routine. You can also check out this video, ua-cam.com/video/32bzlhYtFfA/v-deo.html where I show a couple of drills on helping stop collapsing back side!

Does this help fix the issue that is a leading back elbow?
Thank you, this will help me a lot
this shit actually helped
So you recommend them trying this in the game?
I would recommend working on this in practice first until you feel comfortable with it.
thanxx coach !!
No problem 👊
Love this video. Great stuff.
Another solution is to go hard with your lower half. You can also wirk on your forearms by making them stronget
This was good!
great stuff, thanks!
Thank You. 👊👊
Great tip.
Great explanation
I appreciate you 💪💪
I am going to show this to my daughter for softball
Dont
@@joescheffler1798 why not?
Nice tip but wouldn’t this take the bat slower to get to the ball
Not at all. As long as you are turning in sequence, the bat will pick up speed.
