How I Edited Analog Video Effects for Sugar Candy Mountain - Running From Fire

- A behind the scenes look at my workflow in creating the music video for Sugar Candy Mountain's new single Running From Fire, which you can watch here: • Running From Fire
Basically this process is divided into three parts: Initial Editing (1:02), Analog Video Effects (17:28), and Post-Production (23:28). To be honest, I spend the least amount of time touching analog video hardware.
I spend a lot of time editing in Adobe Premiere Pro CC and I try to do as much editing, animating, and key-framing as I can with the source footage before processing any analog effects onto it. In general you could say that for music videos I only use my analog video gear to create an aesthetic and do effects that are not possible digitally, like camera feedback and video distortion from circuit bent devices. After I have recorded analog effects I then edit those again using the best takes and finally do touch ups and color correction, mostly using Lumetri Color. Basically through this process I will end up having a digital video draft, multiple takes and recordings of analog video effects, and the finished product.
I hope this clarifies some things and that you understand that for most of my projects I usually do a sh!t ton of editing in Adobe Premiere Pro CC before and after analog effects.

Michael - Great to work with you. Things really came together! Glad I could help be a part of this awesome project. The video turned out great, you did such a fantastic job.
thank you!! not possible without you :)
I’ve been in post for 15 years and never thought to edit in black and white so as to not get distracted by color. Cool workflow idea
TL;DW: my projects take a lot of work.
validate it by actually watching and sharing :)
gotta love this guy
This is really interesting. Thanks a lot for sharing your process.
Thanks a lot for such a deep look into your process!
Thanks, your videos are the best!
Thanks for these videos. You truly helped me out today.
This makes my lack of video editing look like a baby edited my MVs. Super cool seeing behind the scenes stuff like this
ngl tho i was inspired by some of your edits even if a baby did edit your videos haha :)
Yeah, im.looking at this stuff and I'm like why do I even have video editing software, jk. I love watching people who are insanely talented but also have humility. Most of us don't know where the skill comes from and that's why we second guess ourselves
A fellow Kentuckian! Good stuff :)
Such an inspiration to delve into my premiere more, definitely an awesome tool to be able to use. Thanks!
That video was dope. Nice job man
fantastic music video
fun to see how it was made!!
:))
You're amazing man.
Awesome work!
You’re awesome! I love your vids!
Fascinating insight and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your creative process. Not everyone is as open about their process - preferring to be "gatekeepers" of their knowledge and workflow. On a technical note, could the same editing workflow be realised in an NLE like DaVinci Resolve where you can use the Multi-cam functionality (i.e multiple "takes" of the glitch footage)?
awesome video, bro!
great job, looks very cool. i never liked the idea of renting software .
goat
you remind me of me but with a much cooler hobby. but soon it will be mine. :)) thanks so much for this. i was wondering how much was analog and how much was digital editing
thanks, tho i'm wanting this to be more of a serious thing than just a "hobby" :)
@@YOVOZOL of course I didn't mean to minimise! out of interest have you looked into AI media synthesis? Some of the visuals are like glitch hallucinations and I'm trying to study how to make videos like the ones I've seen, but for art rather than tech demos like it normally is
Great video this helps so much. Would you know why my Panasonic WJ-AVE-5 outputs my down scaled footage from my laptop as Black and White only onto my crt TV? When direct to the TV it is colour. Thank you
i don't know sorry it could be anything in the chain!
@@YOVOZOL You dont know?!? What do you mean you dont know?!?!!
Try getting another converter! Worked for me
@@isaacrnd yeah i'll try that than you. Could also be the mixer.
dude i am convinced you and chippledipple are the exact same person holy shti
:)
