Since the mixer is only 2 channels, to go back to mixing mp3's on the right deck would you just have to flip that phono switch on the front? Is that why there's one on the front and back? You don't have to unplug the vinyl turntable to go back to mixing mp3's on the right correct? I have my 2 technics 1200s set up and I'm just waiting for the store to get the XDJ-RX's in stock here in Vancouver. Will have a similar setup to yours. Thanks for making the video demo
TheParadigmShift Correct, it’s just a case of flipping the Deck2/(Phono2/Line2) switch on the front to switch back to mp3/Rekordbox files from vinyl. The switch on the back is a Line/Phono source selector so you would leave it at phono when a vinyl turntable is connected. You can leave the vinyl turntable connected the whole time, no need to unplug anything to switch between mp3’s and vinyl.
What’s the sound quality like when recording vinyl ? And I’d there a way of improving the sound of its not that great.. seeing mixed reviews with vinyl recording
The top is a just sheet of wood I got cut to size in the DIY store. It’s held up with standard metal brackets. It’s a solid wall so can hold the weight. The stuff underneath is a separate storage unit.
I was just about to pull the trigger on an XZ then saw this video and now i cant decide between an XZ or an RX3. Ill be connecting 2 turntables to my unit and just cant work out if having a newer machine but 2 channels is better than the 4 channel XZ. What do you reckon is the best move?
How does the vinyl sound through the XDJ RX? Good, bad, otherwise? Sounds great to me, but it kind of hard to tell sometimes through a youtube video and all that. The only reason I ask is the vinyl snobs like to rag on pioneer mixers-I have an allen and heath and have no way to compare the two in person.
ONSEN BEATS sounds perfect to my ears. Never been a concern to me. On a small bedroom setup like mine I don’t think you’d notice any difference. One difference you might notice between the two brands is the filters. A&H seems to have quite a smooth filter, the xdj-rx mk1 filter can be a little harsh. Pioneer addressed this on the mk2 and added a new filter parameter knob
Thanks mate, about to order a RX3, and wanted this clarifying. Out of all the videos of it online no one else is showing is this. 👍 so it’s just a matter of clicking between phono and then back to your digital deck?
Yes, there are switches for each deck in the mixer section, beside the trim knobs. You just flick them when you need to go between phono or digital deck. The RX3 is a lovely machine, had a quick play on it in a local shop
Finally ended up getting a turntable, but when I record on channel 1 with the turntable I can’t hear it back on the recording? Also I hear quite a bit of humming sound coming from my speakers while I have a record playing..
Are you using an MK1, check the little switch around the back is at ‘Phono’. Also if your turntable uses a ground cable, make sure its connected to the RX and not loose. Also check your levels as you might need to adjust them but you should still hear something if properly connected. Are you recording to USB stick or out to a recorder/DAW? Also which turntable is it, some newer ones have phono or line outputs so you might need flip a switch to match it correctly to the RX?
I’ve set 2 SL1200 turntables up with my XDJ-RX and it’s working. The only problem is, that the left turntable (ch1) only comes through my left monitor and the right turntable (ch2) only comes through my right monitor. Any ideas why this is happening?
How are you finding recording to USB on this controller? As it doesn't record directly from the master I'm finding it a bit frustrating as it records from each channel and I'm getting poor quality recordings, any advice would be greatly appreciated .
+Salvador Herrera (Biohazrd) There is a an update hopefully coming to make this support DVS so you will be able to mix your mp3's on vinyl :D whoop whoop
No still have the original XDJ-RX. Initally I wasn't blown away by the RX2 but the more I found out about it's features the more impressed I've become, it looks like a great unit.
Hi friend how can i use recordbox dj and the vinyl together? Also the usb plug for the vinyl where did u connect that to? I bought a rane 12, i think i wont be able to use that one with this right?
Do you mean a DVS setup? (use the vinyl to control the digital files inside RekordboxDj on your laptop). If you do mean DVS, then no, the XDJ-RX doesn't support that. The turntable connects to the XDJ-RX using the standard RCA cables. Pretty sure you can't use the Rane 12. Pioneer don't officially allow jog wheels to be mapped inside Rekordbox DJ.
Hey guys I have an XDJ-RR I can connect my audio technica but can;t connext it to the eq it only has a trim option to bring the volume up or down. anyone have a work around this?
hi there, i was just wondering if this would work with the LINE IN as well? If i were to connect my iphone via AUX TO RCA and plug the rca into the mixer, would i beable to control the effects/eq etc thats playing through the phone? Thanks!
Yes just tried it out, connected my iPhone to one of the Line In RCA's and the Beat Effects, Color FX & EQ's all work. The only problem is that the volume from the iPhone is quite low, even with turning the trim all the way up on the mixer channel just about gives a decent volume.
Yes definitely, this track has a huge groove. A bit shame this vinyl's price start from £25 on discogs. Thanks for good is sitting on digital stores as well.
The AT-LP 120 specs say it has a phono/line switch on the back of the turntable so yes you would need to match up the output from the turntable to the input on the RX.
I'm just some random guy on the internet, but I'd go with phono on the turntable to phono on the pioneer. The preamp on the pioneer is gonna sound better than the one built into your turntable.
hi, for some reason when i run my 1210 through the RX im getting a lot of distortion. the earth is connected and all of the other steps you have shown in the vid have been done. but there is still some distortion and the play back form the WAV on the usb is awful
You didn’t even say what cable you connected to and from mixer to vinyl player! I say this because I tried phono cables to my XDJ input on channel 1 input but there was no sound just really Faint mono sound! All switches were done there must be a setting or cable you didn’t explain. I take it your master out is where speakers are outputting?
Navarat Techaratanaprasert yeah I did you gotta use rca cables into either channel 1 or channel 2 via the back of the controller. From the vinyl player then switch to phono on the controller . Where it says deck 1 or phono
Sure, there are seperate inputs for left and right decks. I just didn't have space to connect both when I made the video but I have two connected simultaneously now.
@@LeeUHF I would avoid the RR if using turntables, there's no phono connection, no routing option to main faders, no ground connection. Go for RX or RX2 models.
@@stivenlopez18 There are only 2 mixer channels but there are two switches in the mixer section of the unit Deck1/Phono1 & Deck2/Phono2. These allow a channel to play either a digital source or turntable etc. You are still limited to playing 2 sources at the one time, so 3 & 4 deck mixing wouldnt be possible. You''d need the XDJ-XZ for that
No, not officially but there is a way to do it using the Beat Effects. Select the Roll effect, set the Beat Parameter to say 4 beats, hit On/Off button (in the effects section) when on the first beat. This creates a 4 beat loop but obviously the record will keep playing away underneath. I've created a quick demo video ua-cam.com/video/oanavIMTvws/v-deo.html
Another quick question: you mentioned that the XDJ RX shows the bpm for the track that is running from vinyl. Does it show bpm accurately and continuous? Cheers, Jesse
Just tested Pete Heller's -- Big Love and the RX gives a BPM of 126.8. It can take a few seconds for the BPM to settle but once it does it seems to stay locked. Beatport lists that track as having a BPM of 127 BPM.
It works well for me as I’ve had vinyl records and the MK2’s for years. The RX lets me easily mix my newer MP3’s into my old vinyl without having to digitise any of it. Being able to use the RX’s effects and filters on the vinyl is also very handy. I also like not needing a laptop in the setup.
Thank you for showing me this! I’ve just invested in this and was so happy to know I could do this! I’m a newbie so I’m super stoked at the moment!
