  • Changing the Guard in London on Sunday 5th May 2024.
Very warm day and being a Bank Holiday Weekend very busy.
Video includes 1st Battalion Welsh Guards (Old Guard) coming on duty at Buckingham Palace.
Queens Gurkha Signals (New Guard) practising for the Guard Change.
Band of The Scots Guards marching up to St. James’s Palace.
Band of The Scots Guards leading the Old Guard down to Buckingham Palace.
Band of The Rifles leading the New Guard to Buckingham Palace.
Band of The Scots Guards leading the Old Guard back to Wellington Barracks.
Band of The Rifles leading the New Guard up to St. James’s Palace.
Apologies that the video went a bit crazy in places but as it was so busy i didn’t really want to get in amongst the crowds too much.

Thank you Delvin, not 100% sure about number 3 but it definitely has the sound of Blaydon Races to me. Nice to hear Grandioso again after the Nottinghamshire Engineers played it back during the Tank Regiment Memorial Day.

Hi Delvin and Mr B. I think that march number 3 might be called "Geordie" or might have the word "Geordie" in the title. The reason I say that is because it sounds very similar to the first march in this 2019 video of the same band, from "MBE" (Military Bands Everywhere):-

Looks like they finally refurbished the old "ER" blue guardhouses at the palace. Not sure if they have changed the inscription to "CR" yet tho. Those nepali boys drill and march really well. Not surprising as their CO seems to be using calipers to actually measure their steps lol. Just a heads up to their charity i support. "The ghurka welfare trust" raises funds for their retired veterans who returned to nepal. It also funds various projects to help the local communities there. They have a YT channel showing the work they do. Well worth supporting if you can.
Notice poor old mr B had to keep up with their fast paced marching. Certainly a sight to behold and the bugle sound of the rifles band soaring ahead warning "to watch out". Here come the nepali boys. Foot tapping to the extreme by me as well.

@@vickyRoyalHistory Thanks vicky. Nepal is a very poor country with a very harsh environment including regular earthquakes. Its why so many young nepalese men apply to join the british army. Not just to get away but to aid their families back home. Plus the fund raising they do for this charity. Which is more about supporting the retired veterans/widows with a pension and helping local communities with basic help like earthquake resistant homes and schools. As well as fresh water and medical aid. Enjoy the summer. Lots of military events and music coming up for you to watch and enjoy. Thanks to mr B and co.

Thank you MrBaton74, that is a very nice video as usual. Very nice images, well stabilized thanks to your skill in filming while walking, which is very difficult. Nice audio too. Well, I don't like very much the quick pace of Gurkas nor their music. I prefer far more the Welsch Guards with their nicer pace and perfect music. Also their brillant uniforms and bearskins are so elegant. I think people or tourists visiting London wish all to see them and nothing else...😅

The variety of regiments and branches of the British military is the essence of the United Kingdom's armed services, they are all very proud of their traditions and uniforms and march with great pride, and the British people love and honour them all for the service they have given to protect our nation whether they wear red, green, grey or blue uniforms. Thank you for your kind comments on the Welsh guards.

@@mikebowden4244 Thank you Mike for your very interesting comment and to have taken time to reply to me. What you say if perfectly true, I would never dare to doubt about the respect all regiments of the British Army well deserve. I only wanted to express my preferences. In fact, it's nothing rational, it's more a matter of personal taste. For instance, the bearskin is one of my favourite. It increases not only the height of the soldiers but also, it looks so fluffy, so soft to touch. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the first thing members of Guards families want to touch is their bearskin 👍 Bye Mike, have a good week.

It seems The Band of The Scots Guards haven't heard you're Back Mr B or I'm sure they Would've Marched in Ranks of 6 to Welcome You Back. An Appearance by My Favourite DM, the Incomparable SDM Gareth Chambers MVO always puts a Smile on my Face & marks the Video as a Winner.
With a Huge Sigh of Contentment, I settle down to watch SDM Elegance Personified Swing The Scots Guards Band & the Old Guard of Welsh Guards out of Marlborough Rd & Down the Mall to Buckingham Palace. I've so missed these sights & Sounds! That Grandioso March really is something Special, those Runs & the Bugle Cameo is Spectacular! The Welsh Drummer is doing a Fine Job too, in fact the Whole Band is Great. It's good to see SDM Chambers Pulling out his #1 Mick Swagger during the Grandiose March too as he Struts his Stuff out in Front. What a Great Day to be in London.
Back at Wellington Barracks & the Unmistakable Sound of the Bugles as the Band of the Bugles & Rifles lead the New Guard Mounted by The Queen's Signals Gurkha Regiment out of WB & up Spur Road to Buckingham Palace at their Standard Quick March of 140 ppm, an Awesome Sight! That there is History come to Life. The largest regiment in the Army, The Rifles is the county regiment for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Durham, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Somerset and Wiltshire. It currently includes four regular and three Reserve battalions. It was Formed in Feb 2007 by amalgamating The Royal Green Jackets, The Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry, The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Light Infantry and The Light Infantry. Those Regiments date back as far as the 18th Century, one of the first Regiments to be Equipped with Rifles was a Regiment of The Green Jackets Brigade, who Merged with the other 2 Regiments in the Brigade in 1966 to The Royal Green Jackets. Fortunately, the History of those Regiments have been Preserved in The King's Royal Rifle Corps in the National Army Museum.
It has been said that the Reason The Rifle Regiments (and the Gurkhas) March at the Higher Speed because the Original Rifle & Light Infantry Regiments that were Amalgamated in Feb 2007, had to March to Battle that Quickly to keep Pace with the Mounted Regiments of Dragoons, Hussars, Light & Heavy Cavalry etc that fought with them. Marching Alone at a Slower Pace & becoming Separated from the Mounted Troops made them an easy Target for Ambush by Enemy Mounted Troops. Whether that's the Real Reason or not, it sounds Plausible. They definitely make an Impressive Sight & it also Showcases the Bands Talent & Ability being able to Swap between 140 ppm Tempo & the More Sedate 116 ppm of the Rest of the Army & back again in the Same Parade, without any Problem & keep their Great Musical Support Brilliantly. I would think it's hard enough to play Great Music while Marching at 140 ppm as it is. Today wasn't a Day they had to Drop to the Regular ppm of the British Army, as instead of Returning to Barracks with the Old Guard, they had the Job of Escorting the New Guard of The Queen's Signals Gurkha Regiment up to St James Palace. Lots of New Marches for me Today.
Thank You very Much Mr B, that's your Cardio-Vascular Workout for the Week. It's a Great Video & Still up to your Usual High Standards. Nevermind, it's only a few more Weeks until the Real Silly Season Starts, with Trooping the Colour. If you Make it to the Colonel's Review this Year, Keep an Eye out for Hazel, Stand J, Front Row right at the End, wearing a Pink Jacket. I'm mentioning it now while I remember, that's a Busy time for me, Bang Smack in the Middle of 1st Semester Exams at Uni, so I'm bound to forget.
I Hope your Shoulder & Leg Muscles got through your first Weekend Back OK, with not too much Discomfort. Rest & Take it easy for the Rest of the Week.
