Looking for an affordable modular that still offers a solid set of features? Look no further. It’s the CL-Max 3 from HJC, a flip-front lid that changes the game for entry-level modular helmets. Using an Advanced Polycarbonate Composite Shell, the CL-Max 3 carries an adjustable polycarbonate chinbar. A single-button release controls the chinbar/face shield lock. Get the airflow you need with HJC’s ACS (Advanced Channeling Ventilation System), which displaces warm air with cool, fresh intake from the front of the helmet. Further cooling comes from the moisture-wicking SuperCool interior. Additional features include a pinlock-ready HJ-17 face shield (pinlock insert lens sold separately), integrated SunShield (HJ-V5), and DOT certification.
The sun visor is more adjustable than 3-position of the IS series. You don't have to slide it down all the way.
Tight fit vs the HJC Is Max 2. Will stick to the max 2 line.
Love mine so far. Use it every day. I'd love to find a green mirrored shield though
Think that would cool on my flat black. This unit works very good though . Less wind noise
When I attempted to reinsert the Cheek Pads, I could only clip two of the snaps and not the third. Therefore, after some experimentation, I learned to clip all three Cheek Pads "BEFORE" inserting long plastic tabs.
I can't find shields for this model in korea, is there any model compatible that I can use its shield?
Just waiting for Scorpion or HJC to grab up those long-oval head shapes on the market, so Arai doesn't have to keep it at the stupidly ridiculous $650 range.
Looking more for an oval module helmet for more comfort! I don't want that "squeezed" feel! What's your opinion?
I wish they had anti fog visors for this helmet.
The most effective anti-fog we've found is the Pinlock anti-fog lens insert. Luckily, the CL-Max 3 comes with a Pinlock-ready shield, so all you'd need to get is the appropriate Pinlock Lens Insert. If you're just looking for a light anti-fog coating, you could try any of the anti-fog sprays on the market. -DrewZilla

I have this helmet cheek pads are tight can I change them for thinner ones I have a size medium
I had a CL-16 and loved it. Replaced it (due to age) with a CL-17, and was okay with it. I got a lot more air flow from my shoulders up into the ear pockets (and the added road noise that came with it). Does anyone know how the fit of this model compares to those other two helmets?
Question about the internal sun visor... I have the Harley-branded IS-33 II currently and the internal sun visor doesn’t come down far enough-it’s right in my sight line and others have reported this also. Can you comment as to whether the sun visor extends down further on the CL-MAX 3 when in the lowest position as compared to the IS-33 II? (There is only one position on the IS-33 II.)
Yes, the CL-MAX3 should provide more sun visor coverage and come down farther. -DrewZilla

Are you able to get tinted visors for the CL-Max 3?
I'm replacing a 9 year old (size large) sy max 3. It fits my basketball shaped noggin perfect. How does the fit of the cl max 3 compare in fit and sizing?. 60cm head size
The CL-Max is just slightly narrower, but it still fits a lot of people who wore the Symax 3, so it could work for you in size Large. -DrewZilla

The HJC CL-Max 2 was "round oval". You say this is intermediate oval so it changed?
Yes, this isn't as round at the previous version. -DrewZilla
So your saying it changed oval all?
Cool, I had one of the old version and would like the upgrade - no 4XL yet?
Currently, it only goes up to 3XL. -DrewZilla
If that changes let me know and you've got yourself a sale.
I don't expect that to change anytime soon. Currently, only the IS-Max 2 comes in 4XL. -DrewZilla

It's been ten years since I've bought a helmet (Shoei TZ-R). Would a new entry level helmet like this be comparable in aerodynamics and sound proofing to an old Shoei?
No, not really. You would really need to consider the Shoei RF-SR to get something as aerodynamic and quiet. -DrewZilla

Hm, guy looks at a $150 dollar helmet, gets referred to a $400 helmet...
Adam guy asks if entry-level HJC is comparable to Shoei, is told Shoei is generally a superior product. That checks out.
@@Adam-tm9zj wish I had seen these responses earlier. I ended up getting the cheap HJC just to try it out and RevZilla was right, Shelly is far superior in quality. You get what you pay for. Subaru and a Mercedes are both going to get you from point A to point b but one's going to be a lot more refined.
Shoei just helps your head look good in the casket.
How does this helmet work with those of us who wear eyeglasses?
HJC designed the CL-Max 3 to specifically accommodate glasses, so it's a good option. -DrewZilla

So, I'm a bit confused. How does this helmet compare to the IS-Max II? I know the IS-Max is a bit more than the CL-max. Would love if someone could enlighten me :D
Basically, the IS-Max 2 has a bit better ventilation and is slightly more aerodynamic. -DrewZilla
