The dark colors from the video are such a contrast to harmonic, crystal voices of Troy and Johanna. It really elevates the music and voices. Thanks for the post.
The violin part on this is certainly not synthesized but played by Frank Van Essen who is a drummer / violinist / string arranger who is a friend of Troy. They both were members of the Celtic prog band Iona. They go back pretty much 30 years. Frank is quite in demand as a string arranger where he creates a full string sound by multi-tracking several violin and viola parts (all played by himself), adding real cello parts, all recorded in his own studio.
Love Frank. Awesome drummer and incredible violinist. The singer of Iona was my first female vocal love. Seen them live so many times. Knew Troy way before nightwish. Then came Floor!
The violin in the introduction is real and played by Frank Van Essen (as part of the quartet), but the solo sections are actually Troy playing an instrument called an Aerophone. He used it on the end section of the Nightwish song 'Endlessness' too. A very beautiful and distinctive sound.
My favourite Auri track - and I love them all. It gives me goose bumps and makes me really emotional, especially when the strings cut in. Johanna plays viola on the album, BTW. "Pearl Diving" off the second album is another favourite of mine. ETA. I forgot to add that writing the first Auri album gave Tuomas the creative drive to write Human.:II: Nature.
Johanna is my favorite Finnish singer. She has some songs that make me cry. I hope you can react to her songs in Finnish. My absolute Johanna song is "Sun särkyä anna mä en". I hope you will react to it someday.
Here's why to me Johanna Kurkela is The Angel. Coldheart of the Klondike Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. You have not experienced Tony Kakko until you hear that. Tuomas wrote it for Tony.
This is the music that suits Troy's voice to the ground, his rich, deep and earthy sound works perfectly! He isn't a belter so when he was trying to do that in the Nightwish concert it made me sad as he wasn't being used correctly or effectively. Amazing how different the tracks are from Auri album 1 to Album 2 their music gives me confidence that people are still composing interesting and different sounding music even when so much of our pop music is garbage!
3 kindred spirits unite on the musical journey they all want to explore to take you to “that atmospheric place where the rest of the world just fades away” PS - Troy sings Harvest on the current Nightwish album Human:||:Nature.
What makes Auri so incredible, and especialy this song. How they were able so perfectly capture the mood you have when reading that book. Such a weird mix of feelings - loving, hopeful and yet incredibly sad. Not many books give you that.
Always loved Johannas voice. Sometimes reminds me of Maggie Reilly..? Please check Pearl diving and also Johannas solo songs. And song called Lohtu, written by Tuomas for childrens hospital charity (Johanna sings in that too, with others).
Tuomas mind is like an omnipotent ocean of possibilites of self-expression, that if you let yourself fall into, every sense will be bathed in the most beautiful and profound feelings ever to feed your soul. How very fortunate and humbled we are that he offers to share what is in his heart and soul with us. This man is so so special, so rare a gift he has and recognises, to be a powerful catalyst for change, with his thoughts and messages in his music, interpreted and expressed with such gifted singers and musicians. He is a complex person with so many layers, and a most remarkable and deep poet. I admire him tremendously. Greetings from New Zealand Charlie :) Love your reactions, they have depth and knowledge :) Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best for 2022 :)
That's exactly how Nightwish was imagined by Tuomas when he decided to create it. With a girl on vocals with a soft, girlish voice. But Tarja ruined all plans with her powerful classical vocals. It's impossible to go back in time, but still it's very interesting how conception of band would have changed if Tarja had not been at home that night long ago.
Wonderful and interesting reaction as usual. Auri's music and voices are heavenly. For another "massage to the ears" you should definitely check out "Pearl Diving" from their second album next. You also might end up surprised by the style of this one. Highly recommend. :) (Also with some bias, I'm a free diver myself and find the feeling of said song so perfectly nailed to what it's talking about on the non-metaphorical base. Would really love to see you react to it.) I also so agree with Latin and Italian being the best languages for singing, they just sound sooo wonderful! ♥ Back when I was a teenager I used to listen a lot to E nomine who were a German music project that combined dark dance, trance and techno elements (in a very melodic and atmospheric way), a male voice with German, often spoken, vocals and a beautiful female voice and/or a Gregorian choir who sang bridges and choruses, sometimes verses, in Latin. They sounded fantastic... Very dark, but still awesome. (If you're curious, I'd recommend Anderwelt or Das Rad des Schicksals, but since they disbanded in 2008, idk if there's any good quality content of them left on YT.)
I don't know if you take recommendations from these comments, but I have 3 songs I wanted to recommend for you. Some of them are kind of odd and random but I hope that you could react to them some day. 1. Haloo Helsinki - Piilotan mun kyyneleet (umk21 live version if possible) awesome finnish band with great female volacls. Hevisaurus - 100 finnish heavy metal bad for children. This song and video contains many familiar faces from finnish metal scene. And if you haven't reacted to Battle Beast yet, I would recommend one of their most recent songs, Eye of the Storm.
Is there nothing Tuomas can do. IMO he's not just a songwriter but a COMPOSER and should be mentioned up there with ZIMMERMAN & co. BEAUTIFUL JUST STUNNING love your analysis and reaction.
If you need something to calm down and relax..that's it.(I) Need to invest sone time in the Lyrics and its meaning. It reminds me of that Gregorian Choral at the End which was famous in the 90's. (Different Groups who made a kind of aerial Sounds, Spiritual kind of Music) Yes you are right about the Pattern. Also like..as in How's that Heart but in a acoustic slow Style.
The dark colors from the video are such a contrast to harmonic, crystal voices of Troy and Johanna. It really elevates the music and voices. Thanks for the post.
Johanna also sang on Tuomas’ album from 2014, “The Life and Times of Scrooge”, notably on The Last Sled” and “A Lifetime of Adventure”.

I adore Johanna's voice. From what I understand, she's basically self taught. You should definitely check out more of their work.
My favorite Auri song to date is "Night 13". I use a lot of their music for my Massage Therapy business :)

Tuomas and Kai are now also in a black metal band Darkwoods My Betrothed. They just released a new album a while ago
The Space Between is my favourite by Auri. Listen to this album and you can hear the direction Nightwish were going to go on HUMAN :||: NATURE.
Simply beautiful ❣
Thanks for reaction !
Johanna got so beautiful angelic voice !
When I hear Johana sing .. I can't help but think of Finnish Elves ..
I love her voice.

Hi! Please react to Pelageya (in russian language = Пелагея). She is a russian singer. Incredible singer! Incredible technique! Amazing artist!
@@mirja1687 It's about Pelageya. Pelageya is a russian singer. I suggest to react to Pelageya. Pelageya is a russian singer
@@mirja1687 I know that. I'm talking about another reaction. You didn't understand me. I'm talking about another singer.
Don’t respond to this troll. You made it clear who you’re talking about from your first post.
