Retroarch XboxSeriesX Playlists Tutorial
As a stay at home dad figuring all this stuff out through your tutorials I have to say I appreciate 1:17 😄
Oh yeah 🤣
@dustinm8262 I've got an ear for kids after having my own 😆 I'll be working on setting up a homebrew with my kid next to me just babbling away
There is also another way to do this,i recommend it especially for Mame: When you do a manual scan for the playlist, just add an Arcade or Mame DAT File before you hit the scan, so it will rename the files into the real game names, and most of it will get its thumbnail then.
Nice! Thanks for the vid. Been waiting for this!
Excellent tutorials

God bless tutorials!
Thank you and you got my vote
Thx for the video.
this is amazing
Thanks!
I know its late but is it not possible to save thumbnails to external hard drive?
Hi thanks for this tutorial. But I have a question for sum odd reason only about 1/3 of my thumbnails are showing up. Even though they are named correctly.
When I try to scan my storage to create my playlists, nothing happens. It attempts the scan, finishes in a half second, and then creates nothing. The games boot properly doing it the long way, but that is tedious. I'd love any advice!
I think it has to be the name that it can be detected by.
For example: If your doing Sonic 2 Mines show the artwork if the file name is Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (World)
How do I do it on the favourites tab?
I am struggling with this as I can get custom thumbnails on retroarch it just doesn’t save which is weird do you know how I can resolve that?
Thanks for this, my xbox has yet to download any for me.. hahah
I'm really struggling with this one, could I please get some help? I've done everything up to when you copy and paste the files back onto your xbox drive, I've plugged my USB back in and my custom thumbnails STILL won't show up. All the others do, the ones within the archive, but I have just 10 or so that aren't in that archive.
I've done the PC version of Retroarch, edited the files as needed, replaced the files on my external drive with the ones from PC, and still nothing. Refreshed the playlist, nothing. I don't know what I keep doing wrong, but I've tried this at least 4-5 times, and nothing is changing. Please help!
When I update thumbnails for a playlist, I don’t get any files in the thumbnail folder. So it’s like nothing is actually downloading. Anyone know why?
Hello. I'm trying to import content on retroarch on xbox series x, but for some reason its not importing. Any suggestions?
I scan the directory of my roms, but it won't important to a playlist. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.
My cover arts disappeared, is there a fix for that?
EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out, inside the User Interface menu go to Appearence and inside of it go to Thumbnails, for some reason my RA changed the Cover Art option to Title Screen and that is why my box arts dissapeared.
I simply changed the option back to Cover Art and it is all back. Hopefully someone that had the same problem as mine reads this. Thanks for the video by the way.
Hello, when I go to create a playlist and manual scan. When I clock on system name there is nothing in there. Any idea how I get these in there so my playlist menu looks better? Thank you
Been following your videos for some time now but I have an issue for some reason on my series x I can't add a playlist I have everything setup the correct way and retroarch sees my games but when I scan there's no playlist added
Just ran into this issue and was able to solve it by choosing the "manual scan" option
When downloading thumbnails it wont if it's not (USA) i have them with just (u) is the a way to mass change that?
I'm wanna pay you, This deserves a tip from me. You got a Patreon?
Any type of support is appreciated. Links are all in the description at the bottom.
Was this done on the Retail version of RetroArch? I see my HDD blinking like it's downloading but the thumbnails never show. I know my files are named correctly because even on my Anbernic portable emulator and my PC RetroArch finds thumbnails easily. Everything works fine except for thumbnails...
Sorry, isn't there a way to use a collection of boxart I have in my drive as thumbnails? Thanks
When I even try to create a playlist it doesn’t create , is there a directory I need to rename or something to create them in first place ?
Make sure you go back and verify where your directories are set, then you can a playlist in the PC version and copy it over like Ryan did.
Also when creating a playlist, name the playlist right and the list when show up more accurate.
You can go to the RetroArch website and the thumbnails section will show you how to name them.
iv installed retro arch on my new laptop. ive done all the settings for open gl and direct x11. ive saved both config files and ive saved as read only. when i launch retroarch, i load one of the configs, instead it closes and boots me back to the desktop. its annoying as hell, could you help me?
Has anyone been able to get thumbnails to appear for the wii and wii digital? I input them manually but still not appear
So it doesn't work with durango ftp anymore to access the thumbnail folder? If i enter \\ipadress into the explorer bar it want me to give a username and password...? Where du i get these?
I think i already got it via a quick Google search
... but this doesn't help, because this way I don't find the "original" path to the thumbnails
Few Quick question...will you be doing a tutorial on applying cheats to games? Since I got the newest retroarch and after installing , you go the usual optiona to update and one of them is cheats..when I update it and extract it it always says task failed ..don't know why..can u help.me with that? Also some games I have are not listed in the cheats games for sets Saturn..for example thunder force 5 can't find a chest for it..so was wondering if you will cover all this sometime down the road....thanks again for your brilliant tutorials! Me and pretty sure all of us wouldn't be able to run these to perfection without your tutorials! Keep up the great work as always..peace out !
I don't plan to cover cheats anytime soon if at all tbh
@@ArchadesGames respect.. but is there a reason as to why not ?
Because I have no interest in them
@@ArchadesGames ok gotcha!
Every time I read your replies I hear your voice “because I have no interest in them” 😀
PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TURN OFF ANY UPDATES!!!! i sick of redoing all settings again and again 😥 i did it so many times . Last time it took me almost a month to make everything PERFECT and yet after a wile it massed up because of new update
Good tutorial but how do you get those controller icons for the different platforms? (on pc)
u need to put them on a specific file like for example ps2 games on a ps2 folder or psp games on a psp folder
Which video did you cover how to make playlists? I only know how to add favorites…
Each core setup video has section on making a playlist
Thank u so much for this...been waiting to properly do this. Question tho, my wii and gc games have that nkit.iso extention on them., if I rename it correctly and not have that nkit.iso at the end will it make the game not work anymore? Asking in advance before I try. And thank u ALWAYS for all the work that you do on this..u a FUCKING GURU of this! Keep up all the excellent tutorial uploads.
You can rename the playlist entries whatever you want just don't touch the actual game files after making a playlist
I still cant get the custom thumbnails to show up. Even when i put them in .png format they wont drag and drop. What could be causing them to not drag and drop?
Save picture you want to use to desktop then open it in paint and save it again making a new file on the desktop witch will be formatted to .PNG and then use that file
I followed all the steps & for some reason none of the thumbnails from PC Retroarch are showing up in the Xbox version. Am I doing something wrong?
Do you have the thumbnail directory set to look in the S drive?
@@ArchadesGames Yes I do
🤔 I'd double-check the folder structure then
@@ArchadesGames Decided to do double check & even did that set up thing for the thumbnails & same result. Maybe it's the build I'm using since I am on version 1.9.8
Maybe, it seems unlikely to me but stranger things happen in Xbox Retroarch
How do you enable runtime and last played?
It's definitively in Settings, maybe Display - I recall it being close to either where you select thumbnail type or where you turn on FPS counter. It is 100% possible to do it with just a couple menu settings.
So, theres no way to make retroarch show thumbnails of games manually named, right?? i mean, for example, The Terminator for Sega CD, i rename it, and i did with all the games i have on launchbox, the answer i guess is NOT POSSIBLE, that sucks.
You name the png after the game
Have you come across any issues where retroarch will only give thumbnails to certain file types?
it's been driving me mad as I can only get snes thumbnails when they are in .sfc files, .smc will not work at all haven't found a way to get n64 to work yet, z64 and v64 both will not display any thumbs.
this is after a full external hdd format and same with the series s
Can't say I have ever experienced this.
@@ArchadesGames i followed your setup and had it all working fine. Full thumbnails all good.
Accidentally exited dev mode forgetting safe exit, deleted everything.
Started again and now nothing seems to want to work properly. Even after formatting each.
Going to go over the 3.0 setup video and see if I missed anything but the specific isdue with the rom file types has me stumped
@@ArchadesGames Hi brother a question can you view the covers on external USB?
I don't have E Drive on my Series S, how can I fix this? Can I also launch games of my external hard drive?
Plug in a USB drive and tell it to be used as media storage
@@ArchadesGames Thanks, mate. I actually figured it out. The drive has to be inserted via the consoles front USB port and yes select use as media. 😁😁
I am getting absolutely no thumbnails even though everything is named correctly
Double check the directory settings for the thumbnails
@@ArchadesGames It was directed towards the folder on my usb, but once I switched it to local storage it seems to be working now. Thanks a bunch :)
on my pc there are ipl files in the playlists folder, but there are none on the S drive. am i doing something wrong?
1:18 Lol child
He is preparing for future voice work 😂
@@ArchadesGames He will take on his father's work when he passes.
I wonder often what they think about what I do 🤣
@@ArchadesGames my daughter just started talking, and I’ve always wondered what they think of. Yesterday, she saw my wife sit down and repeated, “mommy sit down” for about thirty minutes. Lol I think that’s what they think of, what they see.
😂 yeah, small kids are the best!
Wonder if you could help
After running through the majority of your setup videos I am almost finshed
But the one issue that seem to happen is
With regards to xbox dev mode, remote access, development files, networkdrive
So I have mapped the network drive for development files as (\\192.168.68.116) used cmd to input credentials etc
All was fine tonight decided to apply thumbnails to playlist
Flicked over to laptop and mapped network drive for xbox dev mode seems to be not working
This is now the second time I knew what issue was
Seems that my remote access ip on the console has changed its now (192.168.68.120) this is why my mapped drive can't be accessed
I have no idea why it changes but this is the 2nd time it's happened now
And each time a need to reset up the mapped drive to regain access
Any ideas as to why remote access ip of xbox suddenly changes
My network is a 3 unit mesh router all hardwired game room unit hardwired to unmaned switch then wired to xbox series x
Thanks in advance sorry for long read
Need to assign your Xbox a static IP to be safe from changing IP addresses
@@ArchadesGames thank you Al look into this
