    where there is no liberation.
    Not knowing the meaning of liberation,
    confused, commit wicked acts"

    i like red pine's work on diamond sutra. i actually get to understand more about "anatta" by reading this book. as a theravadin, understanding anatta, anicca and dukkha is a must to be a sotapatti.
    there are other writings about anatta, but this book explains it like no other. tbh, zen teachings and videos help me understand more about anatta because these tell about anatta in daily lives. shohaku okumura's video where he explains the interconnectedness of everything also helps me to understand "anatta" eventhough he did not explicitly make the video to explain "anatta".
    red pine's book does not say explicitly that it is written to explain about anatta.However, the moment i finished reading, i realized that this book made me understand "anatta" and its ramifications on daily lives. I will read it again and again.

      Red Pine's translations are wonderful and I am so glad you enjoyed this one! I've also made a recording of his translation of the Heart Sutra if you're interested (it's available in my channel).
      Thank you so much for sharing your insights in regards your practice. As you say, no-self (anatta) is such an important teaching and realization for stream entry. I also agree that Zen teachers and works can be very helpful to that end. Shohaku Okumra is from the Soto Zen tradition... have you tried reading some of the foundational texts for that sect (e.g. Dogen's Shobogenzo or the Sixth Patriarch's Platform Sutra)?
      Best of luck in your practice!

    Hi Ken, thank you for this and my apologies if it is rude to give a correction, but the “th” in “tathagata” is not pronounced like the unusual English sounds represented by “th” - as in “thick” or “thorn”, it is a dental aspirate like the sound normally represented in English by just a “t” - as in “top” or “Tom”. This is the case for all “th” in Sanskrit words. Best wishes 🙏🏼

      @TerriblePerfection Рік тому

      So, "ta-ta gah-ta"?

    • @helikophis
      @helikophis Рік тому +1

      Yes, although to be accurate the ta at the start and end should be unaspirated - (like the r in “stand” rather than the t in “Tom”. This makes them sound a little “d” like to English speakers, because English doesn’t allow an unvoiced unaspirated dental stop in those positions.
