Superhero fatigue only seems to be mentioned when the films flops 😂
On point!
Here yall go pretending like they make as much as they used to
Almost like that's the point 😂😂😂😂
Maybe because they’re bad movies, which Deadpool & Wolverine is not
Not just when films flop but when bad films flop.
I don’t think it’s superhero fatigue, Venom 3 had a B- and Joker 2 had a D Cinemascore, audiences are just becoming more aware of what’s worth their time, being ok or fine isn’t enough anymore, you have to be a huge crowd pleaser like Deadpool 3 to get big box office now, if anything this should be a sign to work harder to earn comic book movie goers trust again
i think if Hollywood at least tried to adapt a lot of these stories faithfully, people would at least give them the benefit of the doubt. But to have a Venom trilogy with no Spiderman makes no sense at all.
@@SeansWorld420 I agree, I think one of the main examples that started this downward trend was how they botched the Secret Invasion storyline, at least that’s when my normie family and friends started to become less interested
But Deadpool/Wolvie wasn't ambitious at all, that's the trade off. In a conceptual sense I much prefer the more unorthodox stories, but they have to execute it in a more palatable, unique way. It makes no sense to go halfway on a musical or just "more Venom" when there's much more fun, even easier stories to be told
At least Venom has a chance of breaking even, the Joker 2 situation is just really sad.
I thinks it’s just because we’re all broke lol 😂
Right. The fact that this is constantly left out of the conversation is so frustrating lol
Ehhh.. I have little interest in anything this month. I saw Wild Robot (good) and Transformers One (surprisingly solid). Venom 3 I wouldn't care about unless it had stellar word of mouth because Venom 2 sucked. Terrifier, no. Smile 2, no. Just nothing I want to see.
And exchange rates.
@@CuriuosKoalathat’s not it. At all
Grace… Alien Romulus’ numbers weren’t low. It’s the second highest in the series. The last apes movie was successful too. That’s why they are getting sequels
Grace: Sell the rights Disney!
Adjusted for inflation it looks like it's the 5th highest (probably end up 4th)
@@antimer6799no one does this lol
Grace's hair and outfit looks so good here 🤌🏼
I think the Agatha numbers would be higher if the episodes weren't so short.
she consistnetly does not take runtime into equation. That's stupid. If 1M people watch an 1h episode and 1M people watch a 60min ep, of course the second one will be placed much higher int his chart, but that's not the truth...
I still feel so bad for Gaga😭 she loved playing Harley so much; Todd’s writing and post-production just completely shattered her character.
I loved her up until that ending. Making the entire premise of the movie “There is no Joker” was an awful idea and making her so unlikeable in the final 10 or so minutes didn’t help either. Could have been great but yeah it was fumbled. At least we still have the phenomenal first film.
Its so baffling. Gaga as Harley is what some of us were dreaming about. Give her a mallet and get silly with it, make the whole thing a long music video where Jokes is manipulated the whole time until he ascends to Chaos King. It's not that hard but they overthought it lol
Every woman loves playing Harley
@@taylorfisher3944 every toxic guy wishes they were the Joker in the same way
@@TheMarc388
Well, isn’t that a good ‘ha-the-joke’s-on-you!’ kinda joke, in a way? There was a very big rumor that the first Joker was supposed to end with (a very different) ‘the joke’s on you!’ ending as well.
I think its the fact of scraping the bottom of the barrel. A venom without spiderman? A joker without Batman? Why are we making bad guys good guys?
It made 175 million in it's first weekend on a 120 million budget. Whats the issue here?
Just decreasing margin of return in relation to its predecessors. It did have a lower budget and it should do relatively well long term.
Made money last time
Joker is still the bad guy in the Joker films, he is just the main character. Venom had been a actually superhero for decades now.
It told tickets before
Grace’s hair is GORGEOUS in this vid!!!
It really is!
Yes Lord❤
A film as bad as Venom 3 making $51M is a success.
Wasn't Grace suggesting last week that Venom would open in the 20s. It doesn't by $30M and she still criticises it 🤷🏻♂️
I think Agatha will be on the overall in the next few weeks. Deadline just released an article that the viewership for ep 7 was up 35%. The finale with 2 episodes will also boost it which was smart of Disney.
People might be waiting to binge watch too
Well, honestly episode 7 was up 35% (probably) compared to episode 6, but we don't know how low episode 6 went... We will see on Nielsen in 3 weeks (or 4 weeks...? I never know with Nielsen)
@@crestedargo4663 The article actually said it had a 35% increase compared to its first episode not to episode 6
@@tash936 I definitely am!
I started my binge tonight in the lead up to Halloween
Agatha’s ratings are totally going up, episode 7 brought 4.2 million views in one day!
Sadly, I don't think so, the show is still failing to appeal to general audiences
@@Sanj1nyes it did as it was reported also I got some co-workers into it so we’ll see
yup agreed the highest one yet means that the audience are enjoying every episode and decided to stick around at the same time gaining more viewers each episode
@@Sanj1n so explain to me how a show about a batman villain got 1.8 m and a show about witches got 4.2 million on the second week so you are saying they both don't appeal to general audience and or is it just Agatha but the numbers say otherwise
It goes to show that Agatha is not at all bad in quality; it's just not attracting a large audience. But still I'm very excited for the final 2 episodes. 🥳
It’s super hot over here Grace, LA. It’s in the news, it’s in the ads, it’s everywhere.
The World Series is particularly hot this year because of the two legendary teams facing off against each other (first time in 43 years) AND because the nation of Japan is fully tuned in to see Shohei Ohtani's first appearance in the big series. There are other reasons and other nations involved but those are the two big ones.
i think people are more A24 horror fans than they are A24 fans
There is no fatigue on Deadpool & Wolverine!
Regarding the comic book film discussion and ‘promises not being met’ I do think it’s important to note that creating your own narrative of what a product should be based on what you want, is just expectation - not a promise made by anyone else.
Most of those expectations come from the comics that inspired the films. The expectation of at least seeing 2 characters that are essential to one another's comic 'lore' is not too far-fetched.
I think lack of quality & lack of trust much more than content overload
Grace sounded like she wanted to laugh when comparing Joker 2 and Transformers
The bar is for a superhero film these days is just not being awfully terrible lol
I’ve had superhero fatigue for like ten years so I’m glad the world is catching up. Hopefully we can do something new now.
Another marvelous Movie Math episode 🏆 Thank you for working so hard every Sunday to provide us with our favorite episode of the week! I adore learning about the Box Office with you ✨
I really think that general audience doesn’t really care too much supporting characters in superhero era. This may be because of less quality movied and shows that were released back to back in recent years. But, Agatha All Along is really one of the best of its genre so hope it gets what it deserves coming weeks
the main problem with marvel right now its that they`ve lost de casual viewer... agatha its a niche show... casuals dont know and care shit bout a secondary character of a spin off of a secondary character in wanda vision...
Deadpool/Wolverine disagrees with this video Grace! 😂😂😂😂😂
Nielsen should factor runtime and have a non binge show, and/or single spisode chart.
Edit: I mean a chart of only new releases. Some of these shows have dozens, if not hundreds of episodes. It's unfair.
My Sunday tradition!! Love your blouse Grace.
Grace, your hair is INCREDIBLE today!!!
It's Venover. 😩
The poor quality of Venom 2 is the reason Venom 3 is underperforming. People don't forget being tricking into paying for a bad movie.
Under performing? 175 million in it's opening weekend with a 120 million budget. It's going to make a massive profit during it's run
@@lorenavedon By far the lowest opening of the trilogy. The Venom hype is dying, and it's not superhero fatigue. It's trash fatigue.
Other main issue with comic book movies is not sticking to the source material, especially if what the studio presented is very lackluster.
There’s similarities as to Joker and Venom with both being villains with their own property, being something of anti-heroes when in actuality they are not, and with no major hero introductions to fuel the fandom.
I don’t think it’s superhero content, I think it’s villain and anti-hero content that is suffering at the numbers. 😢
So we're back to doing this again even though Deadpool just did $1.3B? 😂
It's simple, just being a cbm isn't enough to get a pass anymore.
It never was think back to 2019 when the Hellboy reboot and X-Man Dark Phoenix flopped and Shazam did middling numbers and that was at peak CBM.
Penguin and Agatha All Along are just about perfect series. If that's no good enough for people they don't deserve to have nice things.
What I find amusing is that October is the only month of the year where all 4 American sports are playing. 🏈 ⚾️ 🏀 🏒
So movies that come out in October have that to deal with that if theirs exciting matchups going on in any of the sports.
Hey grace! That is a heck of a shirt you have. Looks great! I love your style!
Interesting how certain franchises (or genres) like Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, A Quiet Place, Scream, Halloween etc don't travel as well outside North America doing a bigger portion of their box office domestically as opposed to internationally as is the norm!
Just saw Venom with my wife. Laughed hard, phenomenal effects, couple of hiccups in writing. Solid B. Well worth it for us.
It’s not superhero fatigue, it’s fatigue with Hollywood pumping out poor quality films.
Venom 3 and Joker 2 performed poorly because they are poor films.
Deadpool & Wolverine was a good film and guess what? It performed really well!
I do think you focus too much on the US domestic box office too, oversees is the whole picture and Venom 3 is performing well overall.
“UNIQUE INEXPLICABLE DISASTER” made me cackle
CORRECTION: Netflix does have a slasher film for 30th Oct called Time Cut
Can't wait for The Diplomat! One of my favorite series from last year!!
That is on my list but I forgot about it
I clicked on this video so fast like literally 20 seconds coming out
They screwed up the carnage movie for me. That's why I didn't see the new one. The carnage movie should of been bloody and gory and basically been a slasher flick. Venom should of basically been arguing with Eddy because carnage was having so much fun causing carnage. Would of been great but what we got was a disjointed mess with a vague coming out story. Pretty lame. The first Vernon movie has me and the second one ruined it for me.
I honestly believe Agatha’s audience and viewership is almost all Queer fans more than the “core” comic book book fans
Queer fans are part of the "core" comic book fans. Do you really think that queer people just tuned in randomly without knowing anything about the characters? Lmao
Venom 2 was so bad, even the best promises couldn't convince me to see the 3rd
It will be interesting to see what ep 7 of Agatha does for the ratings
Dear Grace, Agatha All Along debuted with 2 episodes. That and the 3rd episode being short is why there's a small drop on Nielsen; the show is doing well and Disney is happy with it.
Saw Conclave at noon on Saturday and the theater was PACKED with senior citizens. I think the lower audience score is due to the veryyyyy interesting twist ending
Thanks for making my day better, Grace🙏
Overseas people love Cgi and 90s Chese look at redient evil, aquaman, Venom, transformer.
Venom is 90s movie
I think Venom’s issue is that I haven’t seen ANY marketing or advertisement’s for it. If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t have even realized a third movie was coming out! I remember the first two movies having advertisements, tv spots, billboards, viral campaigns, etc. This one? Had no idea it was being released this year. I feel like they should’ve pushed it to Valentine’s day or something…
I'm a Marvel fan boy but for me personally Penguin is pretty darn good. Agatha is a bit to hokey and gay for me, but I'm not its targeted demographic.
An early movie math just in time for my pizza thank you grace ❤❤
“Anora” (a grittier “Pretty Woman”) is the movie I’m hearing the most buzz about with what’s out right now, BUT the movie I’m really hearing the true buzz about is “My Indian Boyfriend,” due early next year, which stars the cab driver from “Deadpool.” It’s probably the most highly anticipated gay film since “Call Me By Your Name,” & “Brokeback Mountain,” before that, It’s like a “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner,” except the Caucasian guy blows the Indian parents away with how Indian he is (having been raised there, providing an entertaining twist to the story)
Venom: The Last Dance underperforming should make Sony so nervous about Kraven The Hunter!
I loved going to the theaters, unfortunately sometimes there's certain crowds that can sour the movie going experience. The other day I was watching Smile 2 and there was a group of young girls who kept giggling and talking all throughout. It really took me out of the movie, especially on the more suspenseful parts and annoyed me to no end. Right now, I have no desire to go back. I might catch Anora next week if there's a sorta empty showtime I can sneak by.
So... youre telling me that superhero content without the actual superheros (batman, spidey, wanda) dont grab people?
Hi Grace! This comes out on Monday where I am, such a great start to the week 🎉
I see so many TikTok creators that love this show. I haven’t seen that with other Disney+ show except maybe Mandalorian.
The reason Agatha is low in the list is because the episodes are around 30 minutes compared to most other shows where the episodes are around an hour
Kraven will flop hard!
The thing that grace is missing is that Agatha started with two episodes and is normally half hour episodes. So the following week was going to be a dip since there is half as much content to watch.
I almost never went to the theater before I got AMC A-List. It just cost too much otherwise.
Grace, your hair looks amazing today! 😍😍
Happy Sunday, Grace!
It doesn’t help movies that reviewers and UA-camrs say not to watch the movie in theaters or just wait for steaming
From my understanding, AMC A-List pays 1/2 the standard ticket price to the studio when you use it to see a movie. That means, even for premium seats in IMAX, the studios only get half of the non-premium ticket. So, AMC A-List would actually drive down the results for movies in their first week of release.
Theaters need to limit the advertisements and trailers before the movie. 20-35 min of trailers before the movie starts is ridiculous.
Agree about your take on poor box office on comic book movies. Btw hair is so fabulous Grace🙌🏽❤️…have no interest what I see of Kraven but guess we will see if it’s a hit
I saw Smile 2 this weekend and the theater was PACKED. It might still have some legs left before Wicked completely takes over.
Here in the UK, The Penguin is on episode 5 and it is great. Has a Daredevil season 1 kind of grit about it. It's getting good word of mouth too, so let's see what happens, it might build over time!
Saying the KING IN BLACK ISNT POPULAR anymore is wild in the comics and SM2 the game .
Think it’s more so a lack of quality than superhero’s and films leading to NOTHING lol
Favorite part of the week 🎉🎉
To me the price isn't a factor and I rarely have issues with the audience. It's all about the time commitment. That half hour of trailers and commercials is brutal.
Can't wait to see how Olivia Rodrigo Guts World Tour does on Netflix
I don’t know how only murders is still doing good. It drags so much. Agatha is awesome. Penguin is great. Perfect couple is great.
I think people will catch up and bing Agatha All Along and The Penguin. When word of mouth gets round on how good they are.
Agatha is my favorite show on tv r n. The halloween vibes are on point
Idk I will always go to the theater. It’s like eating at a fancy restaurant. You’re bound to have some awful patrons. But you would never let that stop you from eating out. There are some actually bad people but that doesn’t mean the film is. Well maybe. Madame Web we have to talk. Thank you for being the number one incidental comedy of 2024.
Bad superhero movies no longer make money. Joke 2 was an awful film and bad word of mouth killed it. Venom is playing the price for a terrible trilogy. The first movie was bad but made money shockingly. The second Venom was truly and people no longer had interest in seeing the 3rd movie in a bad trilogy. Captain Marvel was one of the worst Marvel phase 4 movies that people only saw due to it being sandwiched between infinity war and endgame. When it had to rely on itself in the sequel, nobody had interest in sequels to a mediocre movie. But No Way, Wakanda Forever, Guardians of Galaxy 3 and Deadpool and Wolverine all made money because they were good entertaining movies. So the lesson is mediocre to bad superhero movies no longer make money.
Your hair looks so good, Grace!
What I'm watching:
Abbott Elementary
Like a Dragon: Yakuza
Beauty in Black
Venom (Bad)
Halloween:
Blacula: 1972
Nightmare on Elm Street
Conclave
YESSSS GRACE, MOVIE MATH SO GOOD. SAW VENOM YESTERDAY AND ENJOYED IT. LIKED THE FIGHT AT THE END OF THE FILM. 😊
I just looked at a 124 inch Q lead television set. You can watch this thing from 10 feet back. Movie theaters are screwed.
I love watch this point every week
The "No promises" opening argument is amazing and totally true, the moment this became true for the MCU was Multiverse of Madness, where it was clear the goal wasn't clear and that ultimately the latest success (WandaVision) didn't matter, breaking the all-connected promise.
I wish movie quality was better but keep films under 2 hours. Also limit the number of trailers. It feels like a half day commitment when going to the theaters.
I feel like you can do a movie about a villain but they need to be just that.. a villain represented in a way that dives into their psychology
I remember when I was a kid, the entertainment section of the Friday newspaper would have the Neilsen top 100 shows for the previous week, does Neilsen no longer rank TV shows? I would think if they did we could see how shows were doing on HBO as well as Max.
Grace your hair looks amazing this episode wow
I agree, Hall of Fame hair day Grace 😱🔥
How do you think is the quality content, not necessarily superhero movies because really not a lot of movies are doing well
Well, perhaps now, Grace, this will force Sony to listen to Marvel Studios and let Spider-Man 4 be grounded and street-level despite coming out in between the next 2 Avengers movies.
Hey there, Grace. I know the creators of Mistletoe Murders. TheTV show is debuting it's first season this month. The season 3 they are referring I think the original podcast version starring Cobie Smulders. :)
It's an odd choice to focus on the villain lately.
They can't carry films to the billion dollar club.
Grace your hair looks great
In reference to Agatha all Along, and other streaming shows, I am waiting for all the episodes to drop so I can binge the same way I watch
Netflix shows. A lot of my friends and coworkers are doing the same thing.
Thanks Grace! I cannot wait for the 2 episodes finale for Agatha.
