- Video testing the Canon R5 Internal Stabilization and Digital Stabilization with the new 24-105 RF L lens and the EF 85mm 1.2 and EF 50mm 1.2.
I compare my old workflow on the 1DX to new potential workflows on the R5.
#Canon R5 #IBIS
Thanks so much for this. I was really hoping to find a video that showed a simple example of the R5 + 85mm + handheld + IBIS. Perfect.
Glad to help Jordan, thanks!
@@HenryOrtlip can i turn the ibis on and off? i thought its always on?
loved the r5 capabilities the video the low voiceover the soundtrack and most of all your partner amazing hand drawings.
Thank you so much 😀
Mhhh... call me crazy but i expected the IBIS to be better to be honest.
Ibis definitely helped the primes but I agree with you about the digital IS. Thx for the video. Very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
I feel like I can smell your breathe. thanks for whispering softly into my ears Lolll
😂
Great review of the IBIS! Loved the work!
Thanks a ton Paul!
Super helpful and a BIG thanks for doing an image stabilization video that isn't shot in slow-mo
I know right?! Why do people keep doing this?
I love the R5! I was nervous, too.
I'm getting mine on 20th august :)
@@januszciechowskiphotograph7297 Nice! Let Henry know how you like it.
@@tmatthewdavis sure I'll and I'm planing to do some videos about R5 to just to help other make a decision :)
Very good demonstration! I've been struggling to decide to go with my R5 for videos, or maybe look into the new 6K full frame Cinema from Blackmagic Design. But after seeing this, I may just hold off on that idea... The colors, and clarity are great in this video. Good job!
Loved this video, that type of low voice caught my attention. Thanks for the video
Beautifully shot and narrated, Henry!
Super helpful, thanks for making this. This is also the same IBIS in the R3
Fantastic video!
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you!
Really fun shots!
Great drawings
I just found the answers that I was looking for. Thank You!
the audio quality alone was good enough for me to click that like LOL great examples man! keep it up
Thanks Tae! appreciate it!
@@HenryOrtlip no problem haha excited to see what you'll shoot with that R5. keep us updated
Great video
Awesome
RE the electronic IS, on my EOS R it also shows a micro-jitter tendency on my non-IS lenses. It seems somewhat useless. I guess more testing and practice will determine if it has any use, but I ended up getting the 35mm 1.8 for stabilized hand-held video. I like playing around with old vintage lenses but can't take the handheld micro jitters so I'm still looking for the best IBIS I can find. This demo with the R5 isn't bad, but I was hoping it would be just a little better. I'm guessing a very light touch of post production stabilization from Davinci or whatever software one uses could be the finishing touch.
It seems Sony has something really amazing with their gyro embedded data for post stabilization with crop. Some of the tests look amazing. Like you, I'm only looking to stabilize fixed shots; no walking, etc.; just near gimbal-like stability without having to resort to using one. And then, it seems some camera movements simulating a jib, slider, etc., while handheld can challenge post production stabilization, so I don't like using it in post. Sony's approach with IS in post seems to resolve this. But I'm still looking at Canon for a purely hybrid solution; 45 megs for stills is plenty and the downsampled video looks great. So the R5 is a very interesting camera. I'm also looking at the R6 since I have the R already, but with the R5 I can scale to a single body for enthusiast stuff.
I enjoy looking at comments and I agree with others; the production value (music, dialogue, composition, etc.) made this a very easy to watch presentation that could indeed be a docu-short. Nicely done. I liked and subscribed.
You perhaps didn't realize but this video w/o impressed data e w/o Ur voice in background, or w/ Ur voice telling others things related to the scenes, could be a little masterpiece as short film... it would be awesome if U upload a version of it w/ just the wonderful background music.
Very helpful!! Thanks a lot
RF 50mm 1.2 looks fantastic. Nuts that you can get 7 stops of stabilisation out of a non-IS lens.
Great video and superb comparison of real world shots for professional use. Thanks for making and sharing your findings and thoughts super helpful. It is great to see that ISBIS can bring to life some non stabilised lenses using the monopod.
Would be great to hear your thoughts now on hand held shooting with IBIS and an IS EF lens and also an IS RF lens. Are us Canon shooters close to be able to shoot handheld and finally leave the monopod behind, or do we still need the monopod?
What sound equipment are you usung
I felt relieved when heard the sound truck 😇🤤🤤🤤 where can I find it ...
Thanks for sharing your test. Have you had a go with RF 50mm and 85mm 1.2L. Your opinion would be appreciated I'm sure.
Hi ,, thx for your video. i am a R5 user for video and photo for about a year. i was thinking to get a R5C because of the overheat issue. no IBIS is the talking point about the R5C. tbh,, i have no idea what IBIS means even i have been using R5 for long. the only IS i know is optical IS (in lens), and in body IS which is set in the quick menu (off, on(1 bar), on (2 bars)). i was a bit confuse after i have seen your video. you mentioned there are 1/ len IS, 2/ IBIS, 3/ Digital IS.. haha,, sorry for such a silly question
Did you try digital stabilization in post production on the PC? IBIS + Better software stabilization might work well
Thanks Henry that was so helpful. Im a Nikon shooter maybe looking to buy a R6 and the IBIS was one of the key features. How do you find the 1080p - I only really shoot 1080 for social media - Ive heard the HD is pretty good on the R6 so that is probably the camera ill go with.
I have shot in HD on the R5. The HD is good, it's funny-- it's a different way of filming, the shots I get a little closer to subjects, the footage can look like 4K with the detail... then certain wide shots nothing looks tack sharpe. Anyway, for social media the HD on the R5 would work nicely.-- hope this helps Mark!
@@HenryOrtlip yes thanks Henry - ive subbed
4K on the 1DXii looked better. How’s the wobble on the R5 with the RF 24-105?
Are all R5 footage on 4k HQ mode? Or just normal 4k without HQ mode? I think all of your footage look awesome!
Hey David, all these tests were in the normal 4K modes. Thanks!
@@HenryOrtlip Oh WOW. They all look great tho! I thought they were shot on HQ mode.. And thanks for a great comparison!
david um thanks!! I’m working on a review video- I’ll address and compare HQ and normal modes... interesting findings!
Very helpful video - just a brief question (maybe a stupid one). I have the R6 and was wondering about the IBIS. Is it (by standard) always ON or OFF? I cannot seem to find these settings in the menu. For now I am working with the IS + Lens Stabilization!
if you switch on the is-buttom on the lens it automaticly turns on the ibis in the camera
Great test! Is it true that there is a small crop even when using the IBIS alone without any digital activated whatsoever?
no crop in my r5
2 comments from me . 1st . irrelevant to the main test but the 1dx seems to have better sharpness and more punchy look .
2nd, if you want the best and decent FF ibis , then panasonic S ff series is the only way to go .
Was your 24-105 updated to the new firmware to properly work with the R5?
Hey Viggo, I haven't updated the lens-- It has worked fine for me, was there an issue with it?
Henry Ortlip ; from Canon (after the release of the R5)
“The lens-based image stabilizer function works together with the camera-based image stabilizer function to achieve greater image stabilization effects with EOS R5/EOS R6.”
Hope that’s helpful, I’ve read other users saw a massive difference in the stabilization👍🏽
Lens is updated to latest firmware?
Yes-- the RF 24-105, I purchased the lens with the R5. It came with the 2.0.6 update already installed.
Have you tested a EF lens (not RF) with IS plus IBIS?
whats the difference between IBIS and Digital IS??
IBIS is mechanical
IBIS - Good for video..
IBIS - Bad for photography..
Canon was right.
ASMR camera review.
Ha!
wow 1dx has more pleasing look. I thought R5 was better by the paper...
I’ll probably just turn everything off and use IBIS only for photos
