A great box set. The live concert is terrific - the reprise performance of For Young Moderns as the encore is WOW !!!!

Another superb set from Cherry Red ... I bought this set to add to the Be Bop Deluxe box sets ... all of which are exemplars as to how to do reissues "properly" ... nice video ... CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland

Great box set! One issue: Was hoping for a remaster of the b-side 'Ideal Homes', my fave Bill track. Instead, we got a 2022 stereo mix with revised placement of the bass in the intro and messed up use of harmony vocal tracks. Hate it. Glad I kept my copy of the original vinyl EP. Otherwise, the box set is a treasure of one of the greatest albums of all time.

Does look like a great set. The only reason I have not succumed to it's charms as yet is that sadly it does not contain the BBC Sight And Sound In Concert performance. I well remember watching that, and indeed recorded it off the radio and still have that cassette! Venue was Sheffield City Hall 24/3/79. Anyone know why this gig is missing?

Just an immense release. I've loved this album forever, and an expanded set like this is just fantastic. Sadly, I won't be buying it until tomorrow, finances being what they are. That said, I know the album inside and out and still have the original vinyl. I also recall watching the Old Grey Whistle Test performance and being excited the the uniforms and more austere Bill.
Be Bop Deluxe were such a great band. I like all the records, but Drastic Plastic for me was their very best. Panic in My World is a desert island song. I've found I've been spinning Axe Victim a lot lately though. The only album I've never truly loved is Futurama, where I think Bill gets carried away with guitar heroics and fills in every silence with a blast of solo. Good songs though!
I have each of the previous Cherry Red sets, and the only way I can repay them for their excellent work on these is to keep buying them. If they do Quit Dreaming, I'll be all over it. Still, Quit Dreaming is a pretty rough recording, more lo-fi than Sound on Sound (which isn't exactly reference quality), so I'd be curious is a remix could do anything about that.
Either way,. I'll pick up this set tomorrow and begin to give it a listen. It's a dream come true that Cherry Red decided to do these sets, just amazing. Thanks for the review!

I decided to go for the 2 CD version but I may upgrade later ! I loved this album when I first heard it in the early 80's and later also got the CD. It's just perfection. However, I was a bit disappointed by the new mix - a bit too much bass for me on the drums. Still a brilliant LP though.

There is nothing wrong with the word "oriental". Stop being overly sensitive.

@@Magnum_Opus_1124 Just as “Negro” recalls slavery and Jim Crow, “Oriental” brings to mind such fraught historical moments as the Chinese Exclusion Act and the internment of thousands of Japanese Americans in the U.S. during World War II. Going further back, it conjures the image of “The Snake Charmer” and the idea that people from “the East,” so to speak, will never belong in a place like America.President Obama signed a bill striking the term "Oriental" from federal law.
