If I worked for you, I would be qualified in pot prep. You are a good teacher. I was an instructor in the Coast Guard. You information was clear and you explained why you performed an action. Should I wave my hand to make it come closer? I wouldn’t spill my beer 😂😂👊👍
I just subscribed to Luke from the like in your latest video but somehow he's now first in my subscription list ... must be affirmative action at work.
Great vid! I would have liked to see you do one in real time at the end of the video. How long does it actually take you to make one pot? Can’t wait for the TikTok lives this year!! Big fan from Owings Mills!
Well, I can officially say I've learned a few new things today. I like how you explain what you are doing and why you are doing it. You would make a great instructor. I doubt I'll ever be able to use this information as I live in Colorado, but hey, you never know right? Love the vids brother, stay safe out there.
awesome video!!!! Im a commercial crabber in Delaware and have been asked about the workings of a commercial pot multiple times. this will be a hit on UA-cam as anyone can mimick the pot construction for personal use also.
Got a couple commercial size pots that just bought and I need to put rebar and zincs in them as well as Turtle Excluders. Your video was top notch and helped tremendously. Quick question though. Why do recreational crabbers need the turtle device whereas commercial guys don’t? Is it because in theory, commercial guys pull their pots more frequently thereby releasing any turtles that may be trapped?
There for a minute I thought, all Luke is doing copying tried and true crab pot design. Doesn’t take brains (in which Luke is a little lacking) THEN….. came the jellyfish hole……. BRILLIANT………. Did you copy CJ’s design?? If not, there maybe hope for you. All joking aside, have had crabbers as customers and always thought pots were just thrown together. So wrong, thanks for the extra learning you gave me this morning.
Cleaning up traps and adding the extra rings to be legal here in Florida. We need 3 rings and the throat has to have a rectangle ring 2 x 6 inches max.
Bad electrolysis in your engine bay can destroy a lot of stuff too. I had a friend years ago that used to get buzzed electrically sitting on his seats. He has an aluminum boat that was all eaten up. it was insane
He has another video out there where he's taking two truck and a trailer to go to the pot maker's place an hour away... It seemed like he said a blank pot was $38, rebar frame $5-$6 each and he was picking up several hundred. ua-cam.com/video/HP7mEA52fGA/v-deo.htmlsi=gDw-jonbdWwbZcyT
That's right get those pots and shape the Miss Paul was going to be on the water if you keep spinning your wheels. I enjoyed watching your video keep them coming from South Carolina we will be watching
Love your vids Luke I live in St.Marys county,on St. Clements Bay. My cousin and I are going to make our own next year👍 Could you share where you get your screening materials? You are a good motivator ,I love the Chesapeake 👍🤓 My grandfather taught me so much in the 60s and 70s! Thanks for intelligent understandable videos! Everything you say is right on point from what I learned in the past 45 yrs thanks to my ancestors..... Just was never physically motivated enough to do the waterman thing for a living...
Great video!! What is the purpose of the “call”? Rings? Excited for more content would enjoy just watching the fishing process once you start that slap a GoPro on yourself and crew and we can get some different views too!

Love your tutorial. PS I hate Chesapeake jelly's ,sea netales what ever you call them got covered in them as a kid at the Chesapeake KOA campground back in the mid 60's but still wouldn't trade the experience. We did family reunions back then great times
Try using aluminium anodes there basicly the same sacrificial value is .001% diferance to zink at a huge cost savings the only time you must use zinc is on an aluminium boat and outboard motors and stern drives , dont add to any anodes or the trap will become the anode ive seen it tomany times in my 45 years at sea
I believe he said to let fish and undersized crab a way out.😮 He mentioned it quickly and showed a close up just as quick. He cut holes inside the rings to let them out. I don't know if the rings are by law to quickly identify the holes for the fish wardens. ( having a brain fart, can't think of the actually titles for them.) Or to keep the fisherman from being cut or snagged on the hole.
I'm a 3rd generation crab fisherman from Southeast Louisiana it's interesting to see how Chesapeake waterman fish its a bit different than how we here in louisiana

GET TO WORK

Before watching this I just saw a crab pot. Had no idea so much went into building up one of those little pots. Awesome video.
Very interesting. I have done a ton of crabbing off the Oregon coast but never commercially. Also we have Dungeness crabs, not blue crabs.

Love the videos man, I look forward to seeing more crabbin content 👌

Interesting and very informative. Great narration. You flowed with the whole construction perfectly. Now go fill that pot up!
Thanks for the class, very interesting Luke
I'm sure every decision you've made , has a learned lesson in real life behind them
This is amazing and informative, never knew about the zinc
Thx. Lots of work. Yikes
Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉

Just curious what percentage of pots to you lose annually and do you have any problems with poachers.
interesting. The only thing I know about crab is they taste good. Ans Daddy still cracks the crab for his 30 year old daughter.
Luke I'm have a hard time making the funnels in florida they have to be 2 x 6 on the inside. How do you make your funnels
Thanks
Jim
Cleaning up traps and adding the extra rings to be legal here in Florida. We need 3 rings and the throat has to have a rectangle ring 2 x 6 inches max.
Check your local laws though, some places require cull rings be on opposite corners, and don't allow both on the same side.
Years ago we used to dip them in tar that hardened when it cooled. No more? Laws changed? I moved away so I’m just wondering.
Absolutely amazing how much work goes into just one of those pots.
great video. The next time I have crab I will think of first video😂😂
Awesome Information! Thanks for sharing Captain!
Bad electrolysis in your engine bay can destroy a lot of stuff too. I had a friend years ago that used to get buzzed electrically sitting on his seats. He has an aluminum boat that was all eaten up. it was insane
U never explained or gave the dimensions of how to make the crab funnel
I’m seeing inside information I knew nothing of. I can see why crabs are priced at.
How much$ do you get in each pot ? Great video very informative!
Crabbing is serious business
When you dip paint the pots won’t that lower the effectiveness of the zinc anode?
Man you make yalls so different from ours here in southeast Louisiana I'm curious about how much per trap?
He has another video out there where he's taking two truck and a trailer to go to the pot maker's place an hour away... It seemed like he said a blank pot was $38, rebar frame $5-$6 each and he was picking up several hundred.

I'd be putting 2 clips on that rope bc if that fails then you lose your trap?
excellent
You're extremely smart. I enjoy the way you describe your reasoning and getting into the specifics of each choice you make.
The materials to make your pots are about the only thing new u own lol
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Luke! Very interesting stuff!
Does that trap door work well on smaller crab traps or is it bc its so high up that the crabs can't climb back up to get out?
U should make pots to sell, if u don't already
This is super interesting.
How long does it take to do all those new pots!!! To get them ready to crap
i would just have my pots powder coated
Why don't you use coated wire?
That's right get those pots and shape the Miss Paul was going to be on the water if you keep spinning your wheels. I enjoyed watching your video keep them coming from South Carolina we will be watching
Love your vids Luke

Let's illegal crab out
“Cull” ring. Cull basically means removing unwanted critters. Anything undersized can escape through the small hole
This was an awesome video, thanks
How much does one pot typically cost you to make?

Tricks of the trade.
Would you recommend someone becoming a watermen? I find it Fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing with us! 🙌🏻🤙🏻
Very well explained I'm looking forward to more videos from you in the Miss Paula. Can't wait thanks for sharing
lot of work you dont need the gym
What are orange rings for?
Is there a reason chicken wire is used opposed to expanded steel mesh? I'd emagin they would be more expensive. But also more durable?
Excellent video! I’m looking forward to your channel.🦀🦀🦀

That’s a lot of work!
Hey Luke, What would happen if you either powder coated or Line Xed them would that help with the electrolysis?
That was super cool, Thank you Luke for teaching us something new and exciting.
nice info thanx!
Just subscribed... been watching fv miss paula for over a year now... ive seen you on his videos lol
Great video! Curious as to the size of the hog rings for rebar at the bottom of the traps? Where do you get those from? Can you share a link?
Thanks Luke
Why yall don't use a vertical pvc pipe on the rope corner with a vertical rebar added to the square that goes into the pipe?
Masters class
Nice hammer
Need to get wireless mic! So excited for this! TikToks are to short plus this will pay you way more!
What’s the purpose of the rings? Did he say?

why don't you use Rubber coated wire. like we use here in Louisiana
How many traps do you fish? What kinda crab?
Great Video. Where did you buy the C clamp tool or the name of the company?
Hi, where did you but this pliers, thank you
Great vid. How much for two of your rigs
Pretty cool I definitely would like to go crab one day
Enjoyed the video. Great job.
Now get to work , crabs don't wait for no man !!
Nice job
It's today first day of crab 🦀 season
Really well thought out. 👍
Do you make your own zinc’s?
Such an interesting job! Good content.
I'm a 3rd generation crab fisherman from Southeast Louisiana it's interesting to see how Chesapeake waterman fish its a bit different than how we here in louisiana
Where are fishing out of in southeast Louisiana you must be running out the big lake or rigolets or Breton sound way
Where do u get ur crab pot
Fascinating!
Congrats on the new channel!
yessir good work
Great video
