Just a note for anyone coming back to this review... in sport and cupra mode the exhaust IS louder on the outside.. theres a butterfly valve in the exhaust which opens fully in S and Cupra. and in the Personal drive mode you can select the 'pure' exhaust sound, and you dont get the piped in noise... alternately you can use OBDeleven to turn off the fake noise all together.
In Europe they get the VZ5 trim which has the Audi RS3 5 pot! Hopefully they bring that one here!
Absolutely! if I could get that 5 pot I'd buy it straight away.
Im eyeing the RSQ3 so I'd live to see that engine in this Cupra
@@berniesutton7277 vz5 is only LHD :(
@@ali._.hallani thanks mate. It is disappointing but there is still the RSQ3. Some time next year for me
Nice review sunshine
Love It.
I would like to see a showdown between Tiguan R v Cupra Formentor VZx, very similar cars.
Good review it looks good in blue interior. As an owner of this car the biggest question I wonder is why does not the cupra mode have the car suspension in 100 percent setting?. The car really transform when you put it in 100 percent hardest setting it feel so much lighter in the corners. The cupra mode is 80 percent suspension stiffness. Cupra mode might be a good all round mode what is missing is a race mode with the hardest suspension setting, luckily you have the manual mode. All reviewers seem to think the cupra mode is the ultimate mode for the cars I even see reviewers dry with cupra mode on the track well they should not since the suspension can become 20 percent more stiffer in manual mode.
I just love how regulations restrict a company like Cupra from using a louder exhaust profile yet aftermarket, people are able to fit louder exhausts for their Falcodores and motorbikes cruising around at 1am seem like they're exempt from any noise restrictions at all given I can hear a Harley coming from what seems like three suburbs away.
They aren't exempt though. They fit aftermarket exhausts that are illegal and would fail noise and emission tests. You could do the same with this car.
i think thats crap, they sell Akropovic exhaust as an option which means they are allowed. its purely to save money. and Dealers are not allowed to sell illegal items...they all need to me Australian Standards.
What surprises me is the colour ' copper ' is so seldom used on cars.
Need more Peugeot Onyx in our lives.
Is that the matte petrol blue colour. Saw it in the showroom and the fingerprints were ridiculous
Need to get the titanium exhaust
Sounds way better with that
I've had this car in the VZ2 310 bhp version for over three months now, yes it is very good but there's that infotainment system that's full of bugs and does some weird stuff like not letting you enter the car, or it can make random phone calls to even slamming the brakes on for no apparent reason whatsoever as just a few examples.
VW know about this problem as it's a similar problem across their range of cars fitted with this infotainment system but the Formentor has many electrical niggles that need sorting, what are VW doing about it? Very little.
I hate the infotainment system in my Tiguan R-Line. VW can't even figure out how to fix the problem. My screen shuts off or the music plays with no sound, needing a hard reset. Reverse camera goes blank. So many annoying bugs. VW are useless to rectify these lemons
@@KainSwiss Your not alone.
I’ve never thought about electrical niggles?!, that is until I experienced a car with it(my current car ‘Haval’). Eg. Windows going down spontaneously, radio going full blast, unable to switch car off, + others😂. I’m interested in the Cupra BUT infotainment/electrical issues would really turn me off & especially when a Car reviewer highlights it. Hopefully 🙏 they can sort it out. *seriously what an issue in this age?!
@@BDogs10 After 18 months of ownership and many software updates the infotainment system seems to have settled down and now behaving it's self.
coming from a VW Alltrack I think will make living with the Cupra and its steeriung wheel and infotainment will be a breeze.
Nice review. I think most new cars now could have louder exhaust systems!
That's a really nice road and looks like Melbourne.. where's that?
It just outside of Sydney, Old Pacific Hwy Mooney Mooney.
@@Drivecomau awesome road👌
Looks great but I bet these things will have horrendous depreciation
They claim on tv adds they are full electric company but they have exhaust pipes
Why would you describe this as “price (plus on roads) $66,490 drive away”? That’s really confusing. Is it plus on roads, or drive away?
Sorry Simon the price is drive away.
the headlights remind me of a 2008 lancer
Pretty sure this has the last generation Golf R under the skin rather than the current Golf R?
The Formentor runs the MQB Evo platform used in the latest Golf 8. The previous generation Golf 7 used the original 2012 MQB.
I got my fermenter for way less off gum tree.
Haha
Might as well buy a Golf R
Ones a hatch the other is a performance suv lol can’t compare
I always laugh listening to reviewers complain about the usability of the entertainment systems while on the run. None of them have read the road laws, we simply aren't supposed to do it. So why complain? I know, we all do it but it is comical complaining about not being able to do something we aren't supposed to do. The complaints will continue though
Great vid. However, I will stick with my Toyota Camry Sports 😊
I actually was seconds away from leaving a deposit for Cupra Formentor VZX but decided not to. It’s an unknown brand so ideally it’s not smart to pay $70,000 for an unknown car brand in the market. The fake exhaust sound inside the car is just ridiculous. I purchased a 2022 Subaru outback touring and it’s the best choice. It’s extremely comfortable and spacious. Thank god i didn’t pay $70,000 for this fake exhaust sound car.
You could argue that Seat has been in the car business longer than Subaru
Subaru is a Mom's car, it's garbage
@@Gabber10K don’t be disrespectful towards mums
Fake exhaust sound easily deleted with a coding app.
Hahaha keep justifying that you couldn’t afford the cupra
I think you are being a bit of a Karen about the infotainment. Considering you have driven Skodas, Audi and VWs its not that difficult to understand and use.
Has quick keys and shortcuts on the main screen for all the things you actually want to change, and temperatures etc can be controlled by your voice if you don't want to take your eyes off the road too.
Sounds more like a quick drive day and you are just repeating other reviews.
You've got 3k worth of optional Brembos too, so you really expect it brakes well, hardly a surprise.
Maybe a little but it is not intuitive for a while and the non-lit controls are a pain at night. Most of the time I use android auto though so the centre screen is not an issue. The changeable dash graphics are awesome
Just look like a MG to me
Luckily others aren’t blind 🤣
Maybe go to specsavers
VW engine? No thanks. Never touch it again.
It's look like cheap Urus ❤️❤️
