    Really enjoy watching ya'll doing all that it takes to begin each different fishing season. You take us with you as you prepare the boat, catch the fish, and get your catch to the processors. You truly have a family run business that continues to grow. I also enjoy watching ya'll doing repairs on your equipment, working on your new boat, and fixing your garden in between your many chores.Look forward to the next video.

    Looks like another good day on the water, and a few fish in the hold to make it worthwhile. It's instructive to see how you all work easily & at a steady pace, teamwork without drama, just gettin' 'er done. It's mid-August today, and the days are beginning to noticeably shorten up. I think that this is the last time we'll be changing to/from Daylight Savings Time. There was a Referendum Ballot during the last Provincial election - I think that's how it ended up. Kind of makes sense, since everyone around Alberta has already given it up. But the summer, she's creeping away little by little. Ah well. Thanks for posting your video - enjoyable as always. Have a good summer, and whatch out for those Therbligs!

    I see you have container from Sæplast Iceland, these are special made for small boats, to fit in their cargo room, to spare you work pulling every fish up by hand, you just ice the fish direct to the container and your work is much lighter :)

    Tangles and snarls are a pain. On my second Halibut trip the old Norwegians let me do some hook baiting and line handling. We were using conventional gear with each skate in a tub. The baited hooks and gangions were spliced onto the ground line and coiled into the tubs. One set I was tasked with tying the skates together. When done properly it is a thing of beauty to watch as the gear pays out the chute from one tub to the next. But, when the 'new guy' ties a skate in backwards it is an awful mess. The entire skate was pulled out of the tub and over the chute before anyone could say a word. The next skate payed out perfectly. I spent the next six hours bearing the stares and curses of the entire crew, knowing what kind of mess we were facing when we pulled that set. As the set was hauled my dread grew as we approached my tangle. It never came. Each skate came in with a fish on almost every hook and nary a whisper of a snarl. No one said a word or declared that I was a lucky dog, nothing. Just more stares whenever I tied the skates for the next set. At the end of that trip the crew voted me a full share and offered me a bunk for the next year. I got into crabbing and trawling out west and never went back to the schooners but 45 years later I still think about those days.

    Len, When you are talking "net weight" (gutted, head off) what about the cheek meat? Do you not market that and isn't it counted in your yearly poundage quota? My favorite habilut cut for halibut tacos for sure. Great video!

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  2 роки тому

      Hi Gary. The net weight is what is deducted from our quota. The processors also base the ex-vessel price pay on the net weight. Technically the heads are the fisherman's property to do with as they please. Most don't bother with cheeks. We do have ours's processed and sell on our website. Cheeks amount to 1% or so of net weight. And your right, cheeks are delicious and the best cut!
