Yes, these films must be seen/appreciated through 60's eyes. The time period when these films were made was...well, let's just say a little "wild" and fancy free. Anything goes for the most part. They can't be taken too seriously I believe, they are "period" pieces and artifacts of a bygone era and state of mind. There is certainly enough to enjoy (I do) when you see them for what they are. Your observation of not much plot is certainly right on. They are almost skits woven together with a very loose theme. But I enjoy them for what they are and still get a kick out of them. Candy is terrible. The Magic Christian is much more fun (if flawed by lack of budget). Pretty much the same can be said about the source Terry Southern novels. As for Come and Get it McCartney recorded a version during the Abbey Road sessions but for whatever reason gave it to Badfinger rather than the Beatles.
She pronounced it A-va....and yes it is a dreadful film (Candy)....And what was Marlon Brando doing in this mess? However, I did enjoy "Magic Christian " much more enjoyable...Peter Sellers ad-libbed almost all of his dialog.....I have a copy of "Magic Christian ", but not "Candy"...Peace and Love, Terry Tutor
