    All of them are strong. None neglects squats or pulls. The main differences are body proportions, which basically drive everything else including hip/glute vs quad dominant 2nd pull technique. You can fight against your body proportions as Gabriel explained, but you will just lift less, feel less comfortable or increase risk of injury.

    • @mbeezy6947

      which style has which body proportions if you would like to explain?

    • @maco1985
      @maco1985 3 роки тому +8

      @@JackGunson-wc4cs There are certain schools of thought in different regions. You will see different start positions just because of who taught the technique. However if a lifter has long arms or legs or any kind of combination, that doesn't play well with the "dogmatic" style, the style will be detrimental. Not all chinese lifters use chinese style, not all europeans use european style. If your ankles grow in a way that won't allow sufficient dorsiflexion, you can use the "bull style" to some extent or hit your head against a wall trying to mimick european style. Shorter femurs are usually good for squats and so, good for quad dominant technique which can manifest right in the starting position and first pull. Lot of chinese lifters have relatively short femurs. Longer arms can cause lifters to bend them to bring the bar closer to hips in 2nd pull, just because of strange position of the bar if they don't. Longer femurs warrant different start position than short ones. So does the torso length. The problem is that combinations are endless. Generalisation to styles is good to keep it simple, but not good in practice just because ppl mimick what they like, not what they should. There are many more "styles".. the japanese, iranian, even african. I am afraid they are followed just because there's certain "tradition".

      @@maco1985 thankyou for explaining

    • @kakasvk
      @kakasvk 3 роки тому +3

      @@maco1985 exactly. That's why I think it is pretty 'useless' to categorize styles like in this video, because everything is based on your body proportions, limb lengths, leverages,..and that will determine how your snatch will look, so there might be more than just these 3 "styles", if you can call it like that. Although there's "Chinese school" of WL, European, etc.. they're usually different because of different proportions, leverages that these athletes *usually* exhibit (Chinese short femurs to relatively longer torso, European longer femurs, relatively short torso, with strong upper body pull,...). Just keeping few fundamental points in snatch is fine and then your body will adjust itself according to its proportions.

    I had this in my watch later playlist since it came out. I didn’t understand how to snatch 2 years ago at all. Now after 2 years of snatch training it makes so much sense having watched the whole video. I didn’t realize how much I am a bull snatcher. Also makes sense why I can’t mimic positions of others styles. I already knew it was because of anthropometry, just not the specifics of how different it really is.

    Wow. This video was awesome. With so many different cues out there, this video helped me better understand how body proportions and mechanics might affect position. I was trying to catch the bar "Bull" style by trying to get my arms further back in the catch position (and chest more in front) because I thought it was "the better, stronger way". But it feels way better when I'm more upright and shoulders are a bit less internally rotated. I'm not tall either, so yeah. Great video.

    Gabriel, your explanation of the european style was a huge fix for my technique! I recently got a pr but my technique looked bad with a jump forward and fighting the bar to stay under. Lots of internet videos cue staying over the bar the whole time, kind of like the bull snatch, but it was too forward for my proportions and the bar would always swing out after the knees and i always had to chase the bar out front. I’m sure i will get a better looking pr soon with the new cue of bringing the shoulders back after the knees to keep it close and balanced. Thank you

    Thanks for the video, I have never heard of snatch styles being intentionally and knowingly different.
    Other than a debate about "catapult" Vs "triple extension" that was more of a observer POV thing. I always thought that the lifters and coaches were trying to achieve the same goals but the results looked different because of body proportions.
    Based on you description, urik vardanian is a good example of the bull snatch.
    What I found interesting is that you said their is no effort to shrug and internally rotate shoulders in European style. I heard both of those cues from Chinese coaches , especially the internal rotation.
