If modelling British roads you can download the travel signs manual which gives you all the dimensions of all road markings AND where and when you can and can't use them. The earliest version on the net dates from 1984 (amended 2004), the earliest version (not available on the net) dates from 1965.
Roads narrowerer than 5.3m (17.5ft approx) and no it's not in the test, but in the Traffic Signs Manual. Since 1974 all British roads have been measured in metres. The spacings and lengths of the markings are dependent on the usage (centre line, lane marking, etc) and the speed limit; line width is dependent on tne speed limit and construction material.
Do you have any experience using line tape for road markings? I recently bought some from Japan made by a company called Popopro. It seems to be made of plastic, has a feint criss cross texture to it and it comes in white or yellow and is either 1mm, 2mm or 3mm wide and is 12m long. It cost about 8 pounds to buy. It claims you can easily mold it to fit around curves but I'll be buggered if I can work out how. So far I haven't used it for it's actual purpose on my layout but have found that it makes a great feature stripe, that I painted brown, for the length of my bullet train station front!
Kathy, do you find the pen to be too narrow for prototype markings? Can you run the pen a second time with an offset to increase the width, or would it look wrong? Thx, M
+Michael Highsmith It's thin but ok for my eye. I would just draw and move ruler, draw again if you wanted to thicken it up a bit. I may be tempted to let the first line dry to avoid disturbing it.

just a quick tip. to straighten the flexi strip, just pull from both ends and it will be perfect.
Thanks for the tip, it seems more stiff than that but I'll give it a go.
Would placing it between two straight edges such as a couple of lengths of wood and pressing hard together help to straighten it?
