Hi George. The Mcconnells are out there. A decent amount were made but you have to look for them. They were popular sellers in Western New York State and in the Canadian wheat belt.

First tractor available with a phone in it. Big deal in the day. Now your phone syncs up with the radio. Fridge is getting common. Hands free driving. And 600 hp is more common around here than ever before. My grandpa still had a team of horses when he started out. Farmall M was a big deal to him. He lived long enough to drive our 7800 John Deere when he was 95. Fwa air seat and cab and halogen lights. He told me then I was pretty spoiled.

The 135 and 165 are solid tractors. Lots of interesting twists and turns. In the end both the Combines and 4wds left Massey in 1989 and returned to Massey in 1994 as AGCO acquired Massey, McConnell-Marc and Western Combines Corporation in 1994.

MF 4000 series was originally built in Des Moines, Iowa. After MF closed that plant in 1981 they moved production to Detroit tractor plant. And after Detroit plant closed early 1983 the production was moved to Brantford. Does anyone know when they facelifted the 4000 series with new decals and brown/tan interior? Was it right when they switched production to Brantford or later?

    • @bigtractorpower

That is a good question on the changes. I was focused on Massey Combines Corporation connection for this video. It is my long term goal to film a 4000, 4840 and 4900 to connect all dots for the 4000 series.

Something about those older 4WD articulated tractors with their angularity makes them look more tough looking and business like compared to today’s swoopy looking tractors that look like they are fragile and 20, years from now will be in the junkyard.
People can hate on 2 Stroke Detroit Diesels all they want but the fact remains the 71 series engine was in production from 1938 thru 1995 with very little change in architecture no other Diesel engine can come close to that record of solid dependable performance. I would hate to think how many Detroit Diesels have set for a decade or mor and with just freeing up of the rack and injectors with hand tools are running a few hours later. Myself while it’s interesting seeing new equipment in the field I really love seeing the old iron still getting it done decades later.
