    It can be just the brush set in the alternator is worn out if the mileage is getting up there. Water crossings & mud puddles can make them play up too. Grab a cheap multi-meter & see what the battery voltage is reading when its running, should be about 13.8 volts up to 14.3 Volts when you bring the revs up. Could be your cranking battery is old & on it's last legs too. Could be a broken or loose wire, battery terminals loose or corroded too. A multi-meter is your best friend in that case & the starting point.

      Thanks for that mate. I have tried all that. I even have my UHF set to give me the battery voltage read out so i can see what it's doing. It has been playing up now intermittently for over a year. But lately the voltage had been getting up to 17volts and higher when driving but if i put my lights on it would sit about 15.4V which is still too high. But then i could go over a bump and it would stop charging all together and be sitting on 12.3V no matter how hard i reved it. Then when out shooting at night the headlights would drain the battery because there was no charge going back into it. These two thighs had been changing on and off for a fair while but I just put up with it until lately it just won't charge at all. I talked to the mechanic about it and he said it sounds like the regulator has chucked it in. Those old utes have an external regulator on the side of the engine compartment rather than built into the alternator. So we thought we'd change that first and if that doesn't work we will have to put a new alternator in it.

      @dustyfarmer Рік тому

      @@intothenight1993 could be one of those two pin style regulators. I think the Bosch RE55 solid state one would probably fit if so.

    Good stuff them jumpstarters are awesome I use mine all the time due to the fact of being a tightarse and not wanting to buy new battery’s for mowers, jumpstarted my Ute a few times young fella was using it on machinery at work too, much easier than carting big battery packs or manoeuvring vehicles around 👍👍👍👍👍👍

      @intothenight1993  Рік тому

      Awesome mate. Yes that my thinking as well. Could have got a smaller one that would still easily do the job but sometimes the bigger machinery needs a jump and thought it might do the trick. 👌

    The new compact style powerpacks/jumpstarters are definitely a great idea, have a small one myself for the boat and vehicles. Nowhere near as big as that one, only petrol engines. I like the fact that being electronic they are idiot proof, you can't cross the leads or short circuit

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  Рік тому +1

      Yes. I could have gotten a smaller one but on the farm with bigger machines i thought this one might get me out of trouble 💪

    Hi Lad love your vids. Special this one re the JS80. Have just got off the phone to I Tech, looking for a good price for 4 of em. Dont have your name but when the weather improves flood waters dry up, and the roads are repair we mite even rub shoulders, In Melb and still waiting for summer. Take care Pete

      Thanks mate. They are a good unit. Although since I did this video I've noticed a small crack in the sticker over the jump start button. So they sent me a return label and are going to replace it for me. Its only cosmetics but I hope it's not an issue with the rest of them. I've only had it for a week. But good on them for not mucking around. They straight away said they will organize a return label for me and they would replace it. Haha but going to miss it till the new one comes. I've been using it nearly every day.
      Haha I'm in QLD and we are still waiting for summer up here too! It was maximum of 18° here yesterday on the first day of summer!!

    Well this is certainly not what I expected. But having 2 days ago had to tow an old Peugeot to get it started because of a dead battery, it refusing to start from another car, I'm going to check out the price of these in the UK. Thanks Josh.

      Haha just thought I'd share it for anyone else that is interested in getting one. Ive hummed and harrd about them for ages but didn't really want to spend the money but didn't know how useful they are.

      @@intothenight1993 Thanks Josh. Yes that's one of the great things, that you can use them in other ways. Here in the UK they start around £90 and then the sky's the limit. But you can get a good one for £150. So about the same price as a good new battery. Your presentation and sense of humour make for great videos.

    I've rarely seen a bad product come in quality packaging as packaging is usually the last thing they spend money on. Usually quality packaging like that holds good things.
    It looks like there's now one more thing on my list to save my pennies for. Curse you! lol

    Hi, thanks for the video.
    Does this unit have a boost button for a dead flat battery. Most units come with such a device. When I say flat I mean dead flat, no instrument lights, no power whatsoever.
    Ps: How about a demo on the high-fi system in the background. Looks interesting. 😂

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  Рік тому

      Hi Peter.
      It doesn’t have a boost button but the other day I went to start case backhoe and I’d left the isolator on and the battery was dead flat and didn’t light up the dash lights. So I thought it would be a good opportunity to really test the jump starter out. I hooked it on and cracked it over but the fan and aircon were still on and it was still not turning over far enough so I switched the fan off and away it went! I was actually surprised it started it!! So to answer your question yes I believe it does start from a dead battery. 👍

    My itech 2000amp starter has never started any car with dead battery so far. It cranks kick starter slowly but unable to give enough power. Always we had to resort to other methods. Could it be because there is no boost button in it?

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  7 місяців тому

      I’m not sure. I know they won’t start an engine with no battery connected so they might need a slight charge to register that it is connected to a battery. But if it can turn the starter it should be able to start the car if the jump pack is charged enough.

      @@intothenight1993Thanks for your prompts reply. I guess it doesn’t have the capacity to supply enough cranking amps even though charged 100%. I will try NOCO starter instead in future
