I love aemons speech to Jon when he's talking to him about Ned and choosing between honor and the people he loves. I know he didn't know about Jon, but I like to think he did
The part that always got me was that look Littlefinger gave Sansa when they are talking in the crypts. He and probably a lot of people probably suspected they ran away together but it would have been a lot harder to start a war if they actually loved each other. I imagine that Littlefinger probably had suspicions about Jon. Ned goes to find his sister, she is dead, he comes back with a baby. It certainly sounds like Stannis didn't buy the story. I imagine a few folks in the North will be whispering "I knew it" just like a lot of book fans were.

Born in the south. He knew he should probably not be called Jon Snow, since Snow is only given to those born in the North.
And no, I don't believe he meant south of Winterfell but still in the North, otherwise it would not matter to the Northern Lords anyway.

@@BaptisteJacquet I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge that he was born in the south, as the war was south of the North. Ned came home from the South with a baby. They may not know how far down south but it's still south. Littlefinger never says anything about Dorne. Ned probably gave him the name Snow because he was to be raised in Winterfell by the Warden of the North, and why would anyone question him? The whole bastard last name thing is all kind of confusing anyway because his name shouldn't have been Snow in the first place. If you get into book details, Wylla (Whom Ned claims to be Jon's mother) is in Dorne. So if the place of birth was really all that mattered for the last name, it should have been Sand regardless. I guess you could claim that the show never says where Wylla is so she could be in the North... but I doubt it. I'm not saying Littlefinger didn't know, I'm just saying you can't base it off that quote.

That's fair enough. Though I still believe that with this and the crypt part, Littlefinger knew a lot more than he let out. I don't know exactly what though. Regarding the name Snow, at least in the show, what seems to matter is the place where you were born, since when Bran finds out he was born in Dorne, he wants to tell Jon that his name is Sand. So I'm only saying that Littlefinger knows for sure two things: Jon should not be called Snow. And it wasn't like Reagar to rape Lyanna.
What he knew beyond that, or if he could connect the two seemingly unrelated pieces of information, I can't tell.

id really love to know what stannis really thought. If he doubted Ned would cheat then what did he think was going on? did he suspect it was Lyannas the whole time? he knew Ned was there with Lyanna when she died and he knew Ned came home with a baby claiming to have had an affair. you think he put the pieces together?
I always thought that was the biggest hint too. that and little finger looking at sansa like she knew nothing!

I also thought it was cool after watching the first season again. When Jon talked to Benjen at the feast, Jon said he didn’t care about having kids or marrying and Benjen said “you might if you knew what it meant.” I think that Benjen knew too and why wouldn’t he?? Why wouldn’t Ned tell his brother Benjen how their sister Lyanna died?

at 6:47 the actor who plays Ned (Sean Bean) he knows who jons mother is and thats why he is chocking up in that scene
I knew right there in that moment that there was something up with who is mother was going to be. So I paid close attention to every tidbit. By the end of season 1 I said Lyanna was his mother through the rape of Rheagar , not them being in love. That revelation came at the point when little finger was telling Sansa the story, and the look on his face when she said kidnapped and raped her.. his look was like .. that’s what you think.. lol . I also believe Little finger knew something was up between them, and maybe even saw them run off together, Then spread the rumors of the kidnapping as to start chaos between the Starks especially Brandon who he hated. And the Rhaegar. In hopes if there was a fight Rhaegar would kill Brandon. Because he was supposed to Mary Catelyn and little finger loved her. I don’t think he anticipated what actually happened but soon found out that knowledge is power and so is the chaos you can create with twisting that knowledge to fit your needs. His lie of Rhaegar and Lyanna could very well set this whole war off.

Ned‘ best character trait also was his greatest weakness: his kindness and compassion, especially for children after what happened to Rhaegar‘s kids (trying to convince Cersei to flee meant death for Robert and ultimately him)
Honour meant a lot to him, but like Aemon said it, he placed his loved ones (sister, nephew, daughters) over his own hounour and tragically died and will be (at least for once) be remembered as a traitor
8:26 I have heard that there are lip readers who say that Neds last words were "I kept my promise" just before Ice comes down.
Season 1 Episode 4. I think it is just the R + L and then Jon standing to the right. It's very subtle, but visible. When Alliser is speaking to Sam and Jon is when, I believe, you can see it.
💜👍🏻i was like steve, completely blindsided. i binged (stayed off the internet for the week not that i had the time, i was busy devouring every bit of GoT episodes as fast as i could) and i was a bit exhausted by this point lol but im pretty sure i cried happy tears. once i was done i probably had a good sleep and then eventually started looking for bloopers, behind the scenes and any other extras i could find, and stumbled upon reaction videos (and many countless channels of them), the rest is history
Don't feel bad my man. Almost no one who's only watched the show and didn't get spoiled to the theories already, saw that coming either. And if they claim they did, they're probably bullshitting. The only reason a number of us did figure it out is because of the books. Even though the books hadn't...hell, STILL haven't gotten to this reveal, we had so much time to theorize and work this out. Plus the books are obviously more chalk full of detail and teasing about this. And once it all started being worked out and put together, it made so much sense that this is where they were going, it pretty much became a forgone conclusion
Funny thing about this compilation too is that it was put out right after the finale of season 5. When Jon was killed. I think it was the creator's way of reminding his fellow readers that Jon still has much more to do, storywise, for this to be his end. As well as a way to give the devestated, angry show watchers , that had no idea of this theory, hope.
So yes, the clues were there. But only if you already knew to look for them. And you had no reason to, as Lacey did a great job of keeping you ignorant of it. And she did it out of love. Because she wanted you to get the full effect of that jaw dropping reveal. Trust me, I wish I could have seen that for the first time, without knowing what I knew. Which is why I love reaction videos like this so much. It gives me a chance to relive these moments through new eyes. In this case yours

The biggest April fools joke was Ned telling Jon he was a bastard
You've probably been told this before but each of the main cast members were spoken to privately by George RR Martin who revealed a secret about their character. The true parentage of Jon Snow is what he told Sean Bean. You can really see the extra emotion he was able to portray with this knowledge during the goodbye scene at the crossroads when he says to Jon "The next time we meet, we'll talk about your Mother".
Ned could tell Jon who his mother was after taking the Night's Watch oath, Robert couldn't get to him then.
Now he knows why Melisandre was so interested in Jon. There is power in kings’ blood.
Remember Jon Snow is still dead in the books, so the R+L=J theory was around at the beginning of the TV series.

Yes, Steve, season 6 is powerful, and that's why it is my favourite season! I didn't have a clue, either. Only in hindsight it makes sense and now we can put all little pieces together. Anyway, i cried with you, Lacey, during episode 6x10, and also now, it is so touching. When you realize, how lonely Jon is in the world. And how everybody treats him.
And now, you are heading to my 2nd favourite season - 7! Yay!

In the last vid (S6E10P2) you said no one but Ned knew. I'm a firm believer that Ned told Bengin. C'mon. It's their sister .
There were a lot of subtle clues throughout the series but the kind that you could really only see in hindsight, so no shame in not figuring it out. They also threw a lot of very loosely related stuff into this video where Lyanna or Rhaegar were mentioned for random reasons.
Most of us (60% of us perhaps) were looking for clues. It was because of the 20 year old theory we were trying so hard to prove and to finally get confirmation on. When I watched Kill the Boy live, I half convinced myself that had to be, had to be confirmation that Jon was truly a Targaryen. How can it not be confirmation I told myself, its obvious after: " A Targaryen alone in the world, is a terrible thing".
Then, after season 5, all the cast and crew straight out LIED about Kit Harrington NOT returning. I (like most) was starting to doubt his return. We all know what happened next. Anyway, the point is that viewers today do not know about this theory because it is now a spoiler. They missed out on the real fun that is for sure. NO ONE now notices these clues because they are not looking for them. So, its ok Steve. You are not the only one. You share in a high percentage.
Lacey, there is another R+L=J video by Alt Shift X that really goes into detail around who Jon's parents are. It may break it down much better for Steve. Crazy thing is, he made the video way before S6E10, before actually knowing the truth, so that theory was out there for a long time, for the book readers. Since he was a book reader, he really breaks it down into so much detail, it's like an aha moment for non book readers. If you have the time, go and watch it. It's really interesting! Also, watch some of his other videos if you can. They are awesome and so fascinating!
Actually Ned and Robert had a very intensive dispute after the „killings“ of the Targaryen babes and parted in an almost personal feud (Ned went down south to lift the siege of Storm‘s End and save Stannis and negotiate peace with the Tyrells) only when he returned with the body of Lyanna they reconciled, but haven‘t seen each other for quite some years till the Greyjoy Rebellion

It’s quite a well done video, although it was done at the end of season 5, so any season 6 foreshadowing isn’t included. The biggest being the conversation between young Ned and the kingsguard outside of Lyana’s tower before they fight. The Kingsguard are the sworn protectors of the king and the heir to the throne. But in the middle of this huge war, both the head of the kingsguard AND it’s most talented swordsman(possibly the greatest swordsman to ever be a kingsguard) were neither guarding the king or his first son and heir Rhaegar. They were at this tower in the middle of no where, on the princes orders, Guarding Rhaegar’s son and heir. There might be others, but that one is the biggest.

A lot of people thought his mother was ashara dayne or a fisherman’s daughter, the r+l=j was just a theory for a long time until the reveal because it was only heavily hinted in books but never truly answered; some even thought he was roberts kid

So anyway, the books delve way deeper than that, but the story is like: Robert was shit, really obsessed with Lyanna just like Littlefinger was with Catelyn tbh. It's "love" or what he sees as love, but very possessive and destructive. Lyanna was a tomboy tbh, she just wanted to ride horses and be wild, kinda like Arya. Rhaegar Targaryen was supposed to be the next King after Aerys. He was married to Elia with whom he had two children: a boy, Aegon and a girl Rhaenys. Elia was Oberyn's sister, the one Oberyn tried to avenge when he came to King's Landing on s4. I'm pretty sure Elia and Rhaegar were promised to each other for a while! Rhaegar was obsessed with a prophecy about his family, three "dragon heads" bringing his family back to its old glory, because of the Prince who was Promised that would bring the Dawn, etc. Rhaegar was CONVINCED *he* was the Prince who was Promised, so he literally DEMANDED three children from his wife: but when getting pregnant, Elia fell ill. She was really sick, and she had her children back to back - hence why some people even believe Rhaegar raped Elia after their first child was born (or at least, pressured her). The Maester had said she couldn't bear any more children, but she got Aegon, and was really sick after that. Apparently that's when Lyanna really came to King's Landing, she was promised to Robert, and that's when Rhaegar saw her for the first time. It's really hard to say "it was love" because he also was very obsessed with Lyanna. Elia was pregnant with their second child and very sick, during the Harrenhal event Littlefinger is talking about with Sansa on s5: and what did Rhaegar do? He defiled her, ignored her and disrespected her in front of tons of noble people from Court and gave the flowers' crown to Lyanna (the crown was called the "winter rose" crown and was meant to be given to "the queen of beauty and love": it was EXPECTED of Rhaegar to show his wife some love and respect, but he dissed her and gave the crown to Lyanna). Some people believe Lyanna is just a way for Rhaegar to "complete" the prophecy and have a third child (but his two first children, Aegon and Rhaenys, got killed by the Mountain when the Lannisters took King's Landing during Robert's rebellion: that's Oberyn storyline, the one he talks about so much- Elia got murdered because Rhaegar LEFT HER to kidnap Lyanna. She was vulnerable, with her two babies, and the Lannisters massacred her to push a new King- and a new Queen, aka Cersei). Also, Tywin took great pleasure in having Elia and her children slaughtered, because he first offered his own daughter's hand - Cersei - to Rhaegar, but Aerys refused to marry his son to someone "as low" (at the time) as a Lannister. Aerys' wife (Rhaella), who was also Rhaegar's mother and Daenerys' mother, fled King's Landing before the army came. She gave birth to Daenerys at Dragonstone, died in childbirth, and Daenerys and Viserys were taken to Illyrio's house where they'd be safe from Robert and his allies. Rhaegar died fighting Robert, Lyanna died in childbirth, and the rest is history. Anyway the moral of the story is: Rhaegar and Robert were both shitty men who built a whole war around "who's gonna get that woman" and Elia Martell and Lyanna Stark deserved better than that. And Jon is better left thinking Ned, honorable and kind Ned, was his father. Other thing to keep: they should REALLY make a spin-off about all of this because it's very juicy and good!
I think the biggest clue was actually right back in S01E02 „You May not have my name, but you have my blood“... this is so out of character for a father like Ned (he hates to lie, couldn‘t do it even in this little phrase) why not say „let‘s talk about this the next time we see each other, son“ (even if he is a bastard, it still would be natural to call him son)
I spoiled this for myself early on before I decided to read the books. Innocently Googled "who is Jon Snow's mother". Had no idea wtf I was doing!!! I soooo wish I could take it back!!!

@@Shaesi. but it did end up being a spoiler because by the time it got around to the reveal, it was so ingrained as fact that it was no surprise at all. When I watched the show from the moment I read about R+L=J, I was able to spot all those clues. And no it did not take away from my enjoyment of the show. It may have actually made me fall in love with it even more. Just always wonder "could I have been one of the few to figure this out?" Doubtful but still....
4:36 - 5:06 is why I personally don't like reactors to watch this before season 7. There is no way you can watch that 30 seconds and believe Robert's narrative of things. To Steve's credit, it kind of seemed like he already doubted it anyway.
I just think it takes away from the reveal in Bran's vision at the end of season 7. Oh well.

I dont know...Ned was protecting Jon because he loved his sister. That's it. Ned fought against the Targaryens with Robert and defeated them. It's not like Ned wanted to help Targaryens. Amirite?
nobody likes season 5, not even me but that season was the most critical for the story to buildup, not just jon story but every important character's story!!.... Now look at this video, most of the clues and hints were given in season 5....

Apologies therefore if you have already discussed this (maybe some kind soul can give me a link and timestamp?) but has Steve figured out the relationship between Jon and Dany?
Hihi it hasn't hit steve yet what this means for dany. Jon is her nephew and he has a (better) claim to the iron throne. If dany ever finds out or they meet or something, how does Steve think dany will react to that?
Also in a way ned did do as they charged him. He did betray his king...he lied to robert and hide someone with a better claim on that throne than robert had. He just didn't do it to joffrey but to robert...and never exposed jon. But it was an act of treason in a way.
Poor ned clearly didn't get over his sister dying and having to protect a child from robert....its why he warned cersei that he knew her secret....and its what got him killed in the end. He warned cersei so she could run and hide with her kids.....like lyanna did. How much did ned know? I agree they probably assumed she was kidnapped cause a young lady with a fiance disappears. But her family knew her...they knew she wasn't a lady but a she wolf with iron underneath her beauty...tempermentful. Her father might not have known but ned knew there was iron beneath. Aside from the kidnapping lie I think it was ned who made up the rape lie.....he took his sisters body home while taking home a baby. People would put 2 and 2 together. So the pregnancy damage got swepped under the rug by saying it was from a brutal rape. I think ned sacrificed his own honor and rhaegars reputation for jon's safety. Ahh the special woman that could make ned forget about his honor was his sister.... it wasn't out of lust but love.
At this point, Jon is still believed to be a bastard. The popular story is still that Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna, making Jon a bastard. Denaerys at this point still has a stronger claim because she's a true Targaryen in the eyes of the people. (obviously that changes in Season 7 with a certain reveal, but that shouldn't be confirmed to Steve before the show does it)
The show (more than the books for once) made a genius job of hiding this and still givint hints. The hints are more obivous in the books.
The series make you hard wonder about his mother in season 1 , then you forget it. And if you don't forget it , you still wonder the mom , being 100% sure Ned is the father , so it's hard to figure out.

There is a theory that this is possibly when littlefinger learned how a well-placed lie can completely change the course of history. He obviously has suspicions at least.

I certainly hope so!! Zach has been busy, he started a new job and hasn't had much free time recently, but hopefully they can both get over here on the weekends or something to film :)

Is it just me or did Robert love Lyanna obsessively? Because he talks about her like they were already married and she loved him or at least led him to believe she did. Versus, yeah we are betrothed to be married because of duty, he dreams about killing the man who he imagines hurt her. Why is it that Lyanna evidently did not feel the same and evidently did not voice her opinion on the matter? In the books you figure out that things went down the way they did basically because Lyanna, possibly Benjin Stark, and Rhaegar kept their lips sealed about how Lyanna really felt about marrying Robert. Which clearly, she did not love him half as much as he loved her. Or maybe it was a scandal??? Maybe she slipped up because oh the Prince likes me oh the prince kissed me oh the prince is in my bed oh I'm pregnant with the Prince's baby, oh I'm dying of childbirth. Meanwhile they were trying to keep all this on the low until they were married because she's already pregnant out of wedlock and shes already betrothed. He'd restore some honor to her this way. It's a mess really.
