What's the difference between the runcam 5 orange and the runcam 5 original ? Other than colour?
Remote Mode is for the Controller that can use a pwm input to trigger recording or just take pictures (at least on the runcam 3s,But it should be the Same here.)

Looks like it took a while, but they finally have a replacement that is good enough for most.I love Runcam for their continued support of the hobby.
Hey Andy. The Remote option of the USB is used with a special adapter cable that allows remote control from the FC via PWM signals. With that you can switch video or photo mode with a double pulse and start stop recording or take photo with a single pulse. Same as for Runcam2. but this only makes sense if you also use it as an fpv cam via the same cable to see what it is doing. Best used on planes with dual camera switch function.
Can you add a external mic?
Can you charge this while recording at the same time?

I bought one a 2 weeks ago. It is a cool little camera. I finally tried it out yesterday on my crawler and the footage was pretty good. I didn't do any adjustments just the default settings. I'm going to try the stabilization feature next.

I had the run cam 5 and a mate offered me a couple of cheap quads in exchange, I regretted it, but now I’m glad, because I now will be getting the orange. I know I’ll have to wait, because I’m getting it through Banggood, but it’ll be worth the wait, for the price.

The ISO setting is a strong reason for upgrading from the original. Setting fixed ISO (to lowest) is quite an advantage as you can lower noise and get a longer exposure time for smoother footage. If not enough you can still add an ND filter. On the contrary, the EIS doesn't seem great. The erratic zooming reminds me on the stabilisation in DaVinci Resolve (maybe I am doing something wrong there). Many thanks for the same-day footage from the black version. Yes, slightly worse than the Orange but this alone would not be a reason for me to upgrade.
I got the RunCam 5 black and I am quite pleased with it. $99 from my job at Grayson Hobby. maybe we will get the new one soon...if the corona virus ever allows China to go back to work and start shipping again
i have the black version this looks like a inbetween model not quite different enough to be a full 6 maybe a 5.5! its a good lightweight camera. very simple to use via app. very well made. can't see me switching anytime soon there would have to be big improvement3. cheers Andy
Besides the audio, I'm actually impressed by the orange. The 5 I never looked into much. I still have 3 session 5's, a hero 5b, and a 7b. So its not like I need a camera. For the picture and the weight, this camera is looking good. Forget the audio tho.
Hi Andy, fantastic video that made me order runcam 5 orange for my drone. Problem is - I've no idea how to do that dynamic image stretching myself. Would you be able to point me at an easy enough tutorial on how to do that, or perhaps you have one yourself (I'd prefer that as I like how you explain things). Thanks mate

Would you say Runcam 5 Orange is still the best budget drone camera if the on-board cam is not good enough? Or is there a better (budget-ish please!) product that you'd recommend for better image quality?

@@GyrotexGaming I'd say so yes and you might want to look up gyro flow because I beleive the runcam 5 works with that to get really good stabilization as well as similar effects to this stretching

@@ninjalemon_Squash I bought the runcam 5 orange. I am very satisfied and can reccomend it for the price. It is no GoPro 7, 8 or 9 - but the video is good, it is cheap and i crashed the sh*t out of it and it is still working like on day one.

To be honest: a downside is you cant frame your shots due to no wifi or display. But it is okay if you just put it on your quad. I do not regret the buy at all. Maybe i will upgrade to a original GoPro some day to increase the quality even more, but for now the runcam 5 orange is just fine. All my videos from the 5 inch FPV quad (and the last 3 inch ones) are made with the runcam and a little color grading.

Can you recommend a first wifi camera for Drones please, something easy to use with a reasonable 1080 picture.. I'm struggling to find an action camera that's not junk and it's put me off buying one for years.. Is there a good beginner action cam?

Nice review thanks. This looks way better than the black version and I will make a decent replacement for my session 5, it’s a pity about the audio but I’ll also take the better image for FPV, a bit of filtering on the audio in post might make it more useable anyway I guess?

Andy, which is your preferred method of dynamic stretching? And have you been able to locate the file where camera settings are stored (like cameraconfig file in runcam 5 original)? I noticed there were both (XV) and (SV) resolution options in earlier version of runcam android app for Orange, but (SV) was removed with app update. So perhaps it's possible to select SV from config file?
Hi Andy, great review! Please do not use the previous version of Runcam's app (2.2.0)! There's some strange resolution setting marked as "SV", which you shouldn't use! Just sayin' ;)
What SD card did you use in the RC5 orange? I've tried 2 different U3 Sandisks and neither work. I have a U1 that works, but the write speed is too low for some resolutions!

Can you "abuse" it as a "dashcam like" operation, powering it via USB and setting "powerdown" to auto or whatever it is? (i need a semi-waterproofed model)

Does the mic have a volume setting like the caddx tarsier?
It only has two volume options, 'normal' and 'FPV'. The Normal setting is sensitive, for picking up speech etc and the FPV setting has a lot less mic gain / is quiter to suit being strapped in the middle of four screaming props

@@ninjalemon_Squash I would recommend it to a person who is not willing to risk smashing a GoPro. I don't know any better alternatives in this price range. Works still fine. BTW it has superview if you download older version of phone app. Here are my examples:

The sound is more like meh 😒 but when I decide to make a video, I lower the level so that it doesn't interfere with the music too much while still giving an impression of the power output.

Definitely, not usable, that’s basically, terrible! I’m not shooting the messenger here, but that is bad! Where is the mic located on this camera? Is it at all possible to gaff your own dead cat and leave it at normal? The Session, IMO, has the best FPV audio by a landslide!

Image looks nice but the audio quality is unfortunately still a deal breaker for me.
andy, unfortunately, this new runcam 5 orange version, has even more issues with recording, lost frames, and will continuously ask to reformat SD cards. I have upgraded to sandisk 160mb/s, and later on saw some other youtube vids that it requires "samsung" SD cards?! WTF?! the runcam 5 black was even better than this crap!
I don't recommend Run Cam, because after you purchase the camera, they removed the application of Google app, now my run cam which used otg to plug is useless! !!
It’s really disappointing how the sound is so bad and I would say unusable. The caddx has better sound which is almost useable.
