    The AK-47 of watches. Modding these things is a hoot. Easy, cheap, and when you're done, you can have a watch that no one else has. Bespoke on a budget.

    First time viewer here. Great content, entertaining and informative. I’m a huge fan of Vostok. Still want a scuba dude though 🙄 the one with the 710 case.
    I have many Soviet era watches from Boctok to Zim, Pobeda to Slava. It’s been my gateway into vintage watches all about the hunt and at low prices comes without the risk.

    The wobbly crown is a feature not a defect . This helps avoid breakage of the stem if knocked against something or if wound with too much lateral pressure on the stem .

    I love Vostok's but unfortunately haven't had good movement luck. In my last go with them, I had a local watchmaker swap a vintage dial that I fell in love with, into a new 420 cased auto that I had a very similar bezel to the one you just installed ready to go. It all came together and I was over the moon. It ran beautifully for a few days after I got it back and then just stopped. The watchmaker felt bad, checked to see if there was any collisions and dug into the movement a bit and couldn't see anything obvious. The catch is, I bought the new watch on ebay and I never tested it, I just assumed it was ok and went straight to the watchmaker.. So I can't really blame him. Lesson learned there. He didn't charge me much anyway. So hopefully 3rd times a charm! haha. I'm trying to build up the guts to get the tools and do it myself. I'm pretty handy, just new to working on things at this small of scale. Your mod vids are helping build my confidence. One trick I figured out for easy scratch free bezel removal is to use a guitar pick as a wedge or possibly 2 different thicknesses of picks if it is really stubborn, and I'm sure you have a lot of pick around! haha. Anyway, keep it up man, the channel name is perfect, definitely a nice chill time watching these vids.

    • @ChillinwitWatches
      @ChillinwitWatches  4 роки тому +1

      Bummer on the movement, I've not had a bad one. I think they sell their movements for like $12, I'll have to check. Nice idea on the guitar pick, I'm gonna give that a go! Glad the vids are a help, I have some more mod footage recorded that I keep meaning to put in a vid. If you're handy you can do it, just jump in!

    Thanks for the video, I have got a 710 cushion case Vostok with the sailing boat. I removed the chrome off the bezel with diluted Hydrocloric acid to reveal the brass metal, thought it suits the boat theme on it. I have had for about 3-4 years and used it as a beater watch on weekend and surfing. No problems but due to the abuse the dial has lost some paint around the edge due to being dropped and bang up. Still keeps great time though.
