What a masterclass in marketing a new guitar. I really enjoyed this series, and really wish we could have seen the same thing for John Mayer, Mark Holcomb, Joe Walsh, Mark Tremonti, and all the other PRS artists. Other guitar companies - take note!
I was thinking the same thing about this pr campaign. Cort has been making excellent import guitars since the late 70s/early 80s but nobody talks about them. I own a PRS se and its quality is pretty much the same as the rest of Cor-tek's instruments: great. Add an ad campaign and it's all of a sudden some exciting PRS product. I dont really believe Dave Grissom cant really tell the difference between the import and the USA product, mostly because the tops are very different. The SE doesn't have the cut outs for the pots and not much of a carved top. Marketing is an artform in itself.
I've always wanted a DGT but it was never in my financial aim. Now it looks like I'll have my chance to get pretty close. Thanks PRS and Mr Grissom and all the good people that made the SE model a reality.
I was lucky enough to essentially trade a 2015 Gibson Les Paul Std that I got for a good price for a mint 2018 DGT. Super happy with the change. PRS are so consistent and playable. That's my golden rule, if it's doesn't make you want to play it then it needs to go out the door. A LOT have gone out the door. My DGT and Tremonti are staying put.
@B Mark maybe not. I do have an S2 mccarty thinline and an SE Paul's so maybe had I not gotten those but at the time they were able to be bought. I just never had the 5k at hand for the core DGT. At least now in a little while I'll be able to afford the SE.
@@SPR-Pedals SAME. I have a DGT and tremonti both core models. They are perfect guitars in totally different ways. Can get any sound i need between the two of em. Everything else has come and gone.
I’ve enjoyed this three part series...thanks to David and the PRS crew. I can't help but smile when I see the excitement and commitment of the PRS staff and their artists. Paul, you have a great company !
I bought my first PRS when I was 18. Im 48 now and proud owner of 3! Ive tried Heritage, Gibson, Fender and nothing against those brands and to each their own but my PRS’s just feel superior and like home to me! ❤🎸
8:52 i have said it before but ill say it again, PRS have created a monster with the SE line! Rhett was complaining that maybe PRS guitars were too consistent but for me thats one of the reasons why i love them!
He's a really good player and makes solid videos, but sometimes he says really dumb things. I don't believe i've ever heard someone call poor quality control, and greater tolerances/variability in a brand, "character" before.
He likes playing 10 Les Pauls to find one that's put together properly. I think Paul tells the story that DG doesn't take his own guitar to store clinics, he picks a stock DGT off the wall and expects it to play like his own. There is no good/bad year cherry picking variability. Different strokes for different folks. I know which one I'd have more confidence buying. But maybe PRS can send Rhett a few rejects if it makes him appreciate a QC Pass one a bit more 😜
I do not need another guitar. I do not need another guitar. I do not need another guitar. I love that gold top and it sounds amazing. I’d like to have the core model, but this SE looks pretty great as well.
I have so much enjoyed this video series. I am a PRS fanboy. I have 2 … I have always wanted to try a DGT. David’s tone is awesome. My wife is Indonesian, so this SE model makes me very proud. This may be the DGT I get, when Singapore finally gets some of these in stock. Great work PRS.
Ordered a gold top last night. Love the attention to detail and tone on this guitar. Most people can't afford the real thing so to get such quality at a midpoint price level is really appreciated. Thank you to the whole PRS team around the world and David Grissom for his creative input.
I’m enjoying that the SE models are sporting the PRS badge loud and proud! Honestly, I’ve had a slew of PRS guitars over the decades from very early PRS models to an Artist Series to multiple SE models and I’ve literally watched this company and it’s guitars grow and only get better. If there was a “bad” eta, I’m not aware of it. Not a fanboy but a big fan. I just pulled the trigger on a dream Fender Custom Shop 1959 Esquire and I’ll be buying a DGT SE too and I’m just as excited to get my hands on one! Well done guys 🤘🏻
I went out to buy a PRS SE. Didn't know which one, did no research on purpose, price was no issue (within SE range was all ok). Just sit and play. Out of the 40 SE guitars they had, two came out on top for me. The DGT goldtop and the Paul's guitar. The DGT came home with me, I didn't even know it was a signature guitar, it just played and looked so good. Amazing!
Just ordered my Sunburst PRS-DGT-SE and can't wait to get my hands on it. My first PRS I bought in 1987 so I feel a connection with PRS although I'm a Strat guy through and through!
I think there are a lot of people anticipating this model. I have wanted a chance to have a DGT but my budget doesn’t allow me to swing the core model. This could be the best PRS SE model they make. We will see. Proof is in the playing. If David approves it that’s good enough for me. Love both finishes also. Can’t wait to play one in person!
Just such a beautiful story from the heritage, early years and David has been one of, if not the pioneer of the brand of a players, player! Honored to have owned a DGT, met David while I lived and played full time in Austin and to hear him at least 7 plus times live, just incredible memories. Love David with all my heart, he was part of my coming to adult hood as a teenager, pro and man
A DGT SE is next on my list. Have a Tremonti SE that I love. PRS has done a fabulous job with the revamped SE line as many of simply cannot afford to drop thousands on a decent guitar. With the SE series, we don’t have to.
PRS's import models are better than most guitar manufacturers' American-made models. This in-depth series is evidence of that. PRS goes above and beyond to ensure the quality of all of their instruments are top notch for their price point. You can pick up a very nice SE model guitar and an HDRX 20 or MT 15 amp for less than $2k and go out and play clubs with that setup. This is why PRS is spanking the pants off of Fender and Gibson. PRS' off-the-rack American models are MILES ahead of the other two's top-end "custom shop" models, and PRS's imports are right up there with the other two's off-the-rack American models. Well done, Paul...
I remember walking into a store, picking up a used Tremonti SE and it absolutely smoked the Gibson USA LP next to it for playability. Still kicking myself for not grabbing it, a ltd edition zebra wood version. I later got the USA model though and that ended my several year singlecut quest.
@@SPR-Pedals I can't tell you how many amazing looking limited edition PRS SE models I've had to resist buying over the years. A great-playing great-looking Zebrawood model would have been hard for me to resist though. Glad you eventually got the one you wanted though.
Well… Lots of people want that guitar, including me. Knowing that David Grissom has a hard time telling which is which, between the Core and the SE, is a fantastic stamp of approval. It reminds me of the process Fender went through with Eric Johnson for his signature strat. These two guys share a similar great attention to details. My local store allow me to preorder but I’ll have to wait at least 12 months… :(
That burst with birds will be my next guitar purchase. I have wanted an SE-model with trem, 22 frets and some other color than black. SE DGT will check all the right boxes for me.
Myles definitely deserves a signature model, and that T-style that's been coming up in recent photos is getting noticed a lot. I've never owned a T-style, but that would be one to peak my interest and plug that tonal gap.
Amazing marketing they are doing here for what is sure to be a very successful product. It’s especially fitting, because David is the PRS artist par excellence.

For players like me, the SE line has been a way to get on the PRS train without selling multiple organs. The DGT looks like another home run addition to the line. Will go quite nicely with my SE Soapbar ll and SE Custom 22.
Thanks for this series of videos. Love that you gave us such an in depth insight into how you make your SE guitars, so many brands seem to ignore their lower priced tiers and I love that although core models are out of reach for many, the SE's are given just as much thought and attention. Looking forward to trying a DGT in 2023, I expect I will have to make room for one in the collection in the new year!

PRS rules. Period.
I typed the first comment here just so you know
Why use two full stops?
Yes they do rule.
@@classicraceruk1337 it’s actually three full stops/periods.
