I've said this many times, but I don't associate Megalovania to any one piece of media. It's simply an indication that somebody is about to get their ass royally handed to them.
I associate it with Toby Fox working on it (or in this case, inspiring it). Some people think it's lazy to reuse this song, but to me it's an artist's signature in musical form.
@@BizzarreProductions its not like he reuses it either, it always has a different spin on it. the homestuck version is dramatic and full of intense, emotional guitars, this version is far colder and full of weird samples, the undertale remix is blood pounding and refined, and the smash version contains callbacks to the previous versions and toby's other work, while also being another step up in the chain of the song being refined to perfection

Undertale is literally the gateway drug to these games for many people. It's cool that everybody loves the same thing right? It was the same way with Earthbound and Xenoblade Chronicals with Smash 4. Smash led me to Earthbound, Earthbound led me to a love of RPG's, RPG's led me to Xenoblade and Undertale, Undertale led me to the Halloween hack Homestuck and Cog Dis. We all most likely have similar experiences so why not be grateful of this long line of luck in finding things you can enjoy and love?

So, from what I understand: MOTHER: CogDis is a fangame made by a group of nerds who love MOTHER. It takes place between MOTHER 1 and 2. It follows a group of enemies from MOTHER 2, now on a quest to erase the events of the previous game, and to kill Giygas (I have no idea on this one) The game is made with RPG Maker, made with the intention of being a lot darker, and has a ridiculously epic theme for the "Paradox Ending", in which you erase the events of the previous game, causing a paradox timeline to happen (I MEAN, COME ON! IT USES A *SIREN* AS A *MAIN* INSTRUMENT!).
I think the siren is because in the main story segment where this plays you're escaping a collapsing space station. It just get carried over into the Paradox final fight - where you know damn well what you're doing is going to collapse the timeline.
That siren at the beginning and the trumpets at certain parts of the song are just... great. It's just great. This megalovania's strength, I feel, is how all the instruments work together.
Just so you know, this track has nothing to do with Sans. But it has everything to do with fleeing spacecraft about to be destroyed and facing off against an amalgamation of plant and machine that REALLY loves the intercom system.
The random apocalypse sirens as the song is starting really add to the classic vibe of megalovania being the "song that plays when you've done something ridiculously horrible and need to pay for it".

It's funny how every single time this Song plays, the player has always done something bad, an Alternate route that shouldn't happen, just because someone want to push the game to the very limi, to see everything the "world" has to offer And this song always plays in that very ending.

i haven't finished cog dis yet, but this megalovania shines i think in the unique feeling it creates. earthbound was simply an epic theme, and homestuck tried to amp up and tailor it's megalovania to the specific characters involved, but both cog dis and undertale change it up with a reimagining. Undertale's theme sounds high stakes and desperate, matching the feel of the fight from both sides. However, I always get the feeling from this version that it feels like the apocalypse - the world feels like it's falling apart around you with this iteration.
Absolutely wild that this predates not only the Undertale version, but also the Homestuck version. People knew Toby's music rocked even back when he'd only made a Mother fan-hack........ beautiful
I would seriously hope he would but unfortunately I doubt he will because people might see it as lazy for him to just remake a song instead of creating an original one. Hardcore fans though would certainly love for MEGALOVANIA to make a climactic return in Deltarune.
Normally I would agree with it being somewhat lazy but at this point it’s basically law that anything Toby makes will have a mix of Megalovania in it. I don’t think he would stop at the sequel to his most popular work yet

I don't know why but this Megalovania gives me a sad feeling for some reason. There's just something in this particular version of Megalovania among all of the others that makes it sad. Is it the instruments? The beats? I don't know.

The universe begins to collapse as the prophecy has been broken. Mother 2 and 3 can no longer take place, and as the apple of enlightenment has been proven one, which has never happened before, as it is impossible. The universe simply collapses. Everything about this is an intense battle, but also very, very sad.
Also, when you’re an (admittedly very cool) starman and your spaceship is falling apart at the seams due to a collision with some ominous unidentifiable object. Also also, when you’re fighting said object.

Cognitive Dissonance has by far the best version of megalovania, Halloween hack was good, so was homestuck, but the Undertale version of it wasnt as good to me
Undertale had more control and focus to is, basically we KNEW who he was targeting and it was US. Homestuck has more of a kick ass feel, like you're ready to take on an armi of bad guys of the week with an iron fist up their ass, Cog Dis has a weird otherworldly feel to it, giving a feeling that what we are fighting isn't from this world, and Earthbound's was the most experimental version, though it showed us it was the final stand of a man who was falling apart since the very beginning.

Hoo boy just played through chapter 2's starship escape sequence. That was really cool, frantically teleporting across a breaking spaceship as megalo-freaking-vania plays in the background along with sirens and everything. It made it feel really cinematic in my head.

So, basically, in this ending you traumatize the already traumatized Giegue even further by singing the least appropriate song possible in the least appropriate moment possible, causing him to, basically, curl up and retreat deeper into his mind. It's not just twisting the knife in the wound of poor Giegue - it's sticking the motorized iron wire brush into it and running it at full speed. Do you leave him at that? No, you follow him with intentions to continue fighting. Then you fight with what are either chrono-projections of the previous clique of the protagonists or their imprints in Giegue's memory, which he tries to use to shield himself from you. Of course, your party manages to destroy them and whack his core personality even further. With nowhere to retreat and being so damaged and traumatized, he just... gives up and dies. Mission complete, I guess.. Yay. Even though the reality itself is wobbling from the way you did it. But hey, the universe is safe now, right? Right?..

I would seriously hope he would but unfortunately I doubt he will because people might see it as lazy for him to just remake a song instead of creating an original one. Hardcore fans though would certainly love for MEGALOVANIA to make a climactic return in Deltarune.
Normally I would agree with it being somewhat lazy but at this point it’s basically law that anything Toby makes will have a mix of Megalovania in it. I don’t think he would stop at the sequel to his most popular work yet

Honestly it's so weird to think that this was someone's favorite song before undertale. How cool must've it been to see the comments just flooded one day about this game called undertale, and then falling in love with it. or, liking homestuck and just hearing the first few beats and being like "wait, wHAT!?" as the song starts. Seriously, I'm surprised I haven't heard any stories about it.
You can find some people who heard the EB:HH Megalovania before the Undertale one on the comment section for some uploads of EB:HH Megalovania.

I don't know why but this Megalovania gives me a sad feeling for some reason. There's just something in this particular version of Megalovania among all of the others that makes it sad. Is it the instruments? The beats? I don't know.
I mean, the game in itself is pretty sad.
Think about what’s happening.
You’ve become a monster. You’ve pushed Giygas beyond his limit. His pain has become incomprehensible. The chosen ones have seen this, and the chosen 4 have decided that you have gone to far this time, and go against you. Giygas starts fighting you both desperately, hoping he might live to see another sunrise. The chosen 4 focus on you, seeing you as the main threat. You, however, see them both as just in the way. The chosen 4 are dying, they’ve finally met their match. Giygas, seeing your power, gives up, and he dies. At long last, it’s over. They’re all dead. The universe begins to collapse as the prophecy has been broken. Mother 2 and 3 can no longer take place, and as the apple of enlightenment has been proven one, which has never happened before, as it is impossible. The universe simply collapses. Everything about this is an intense battle, but also very, very sad.
Also, when you’re an (admittedly very cool) starman and your spaceship is falling apart at the seams due to a collision with some ominous unidentifiable object.

I feel like I’m watching the entirety of reality collapse and it’s my fault. But after having played this game and getting the paradox ending, I understand why.

Cognitive Dissonance has by far the best version of megalovania, Halloween hack was good, so was homestuck, but the Undertale version of it wasnt as good to me

Undertale had more control and focus to is, basically we KNEW who he was targeting and it was US. Homestuck has more of a kick ass feel, like you're ready to take on an armi of bad guys of the week with an iron fist up their ass, Cog Dis has a weird otherworldly feel to it, giving a feeling that what we are fighting isn't from this world, and Earthbound's was the most experimental version, though it showed us it was the final stand of a man who was falling apart since the very beginning.
The cannons in the BG of the intro part...just gives you chills, man.

This was my favorite version, I remember hearing this back in 2012 when I was just starting to get in this online world, never knew what this videogame was from and I could barely understand what they were saying because of English not being my native tongue, so glad this went this far

Hoo boy just played through chapter 2's starship escape sequence. That was really cool, frantically teleporting across a breaking spaceship as megalo-freaking-vania plays in the background along with sirens and everything. It made it feel really cinematic in my head.

So, basically, in this ending you traumatize the already traumatized Giegue even further by singing the least appropriate song possible in the least appropriate moment possible, causing him to, basically, curl up and retreat deeper into his mind. It's not just twisting the knife in the wound of poor Giegue - it's sticking the motorized iron wire brush into it and running it at full speed.
Do you leave him at that? No, you follow him with intentions to continue fighting.
Then you fight with what are either chrono-projections of the previous clique of the protagonists or their imprints in Giegue's memory, which he tries to use to shield himself from you.
Of course, your party manages to destroy them and whack his core personality even further.
With nowhere to retreat and being so damaged and traumatized, he just... gives up and dies.
Mission complete, I guess.. Yay. Even though the reality itself is wobbling from the way you did it. But hey, the universe is safe now, right? Right?..
Giegue didn't deserve any of this.
