I agree with your points! People don't understand how important comparing games is, especially when it comes to the parts that could be improved (obviously, talking about good counterparts is important as well, but that's not the point here). Constructive criticism is so good and so important because it helps, in this case, developers and games to grow. They can't grow if they don't know the problem. It's like a flower; if the gardener doesn't understand that the soil is bad then they won't understand why the flower dies. (A shitty metaphor but it does its job lol). Of course, you shouldn't compare SSO to, for example, the Hitman series just because they're both open world, to an extent. But taking parts of the game and comparing it, for example, the sneaking aspects (which is a whole 'nother rant on SSO ISTG), is alright because, as I said, a flower. It sucks that Star Stable doesn't have a huge competitor so they can strive for improvement because. Money. But it sucks even more that there are so much they're choosing to ignore the players. IDK man, I'm just tired of the consumers never being listened to in general. ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOTE, I had absolutely no idea you could get a cat from the cauldron. I've been missing out lol.
10:48 Sometimes I think it's because most (not all) people who are "horse gamers" don't play other games. And so sometimes it feels like they have no frame of reference to compare to when they do nitpick - for instance - complaining that the horses feel robotic / disliking that they cancel other animations to jump immediately. But if it wasn't that way (without adding a mechanic to make it make sense, like the jump meter), I think sso would feel incredibly frustrating to play. But I totally agree! If you want your favorite live service game to improve you should suggest things and be critical sometimes! I want to live in a world where SSO is just as good as any other game :)
Oh absolutely the nitick stuff is kinda funny when it is just sso and it isn't something to important, seeing people complain about things that in the whole of the gaming community doesn't matter or isn't actually an issue is wild. SSO players seem to have a higher standard for their game but than turn around and complain as it changes to try and fit the modern standard. Don't get me wrong, some changes that have happened didn't need to, like the horse being able to run forever without the player needed to keep pressing the button, I get it was accessibility issues but a toggle would always be nice for players who want the old mechanics back.
@huntermoonhearth lol yeah turning around and getting mad when the game is actually getting better is always wild agreed. I love your channel because you seem to have the most level headed takes I've seen about this game, and it's like a breath of fresh air! Like yeah sso isn't perfect, but it's not like unsalvageable or dying either.
@huntermoonhearth oh and also I never played with the cold mechanics but I think they should come back, along with the ability to have the old mechanics (that I did play with for like a week when I first joined and enjoyed)
Also yes I agree with the frame of reference and everything you said, you are so spot on. People are allergic to comparing SSO to other MMORPGS. For example it’s an open world game but there’s not much to do in the Open world, for me there’s no incentive to explore I wished for a similar system in other games where events could pop up randomly and you could DO something for character or horse expyou hit the nail on the head when it comes to the playerbase
