@@georgecroney6168 You know what the "weirdest" thing I've found, was on a computer of a photographer for teen vogue. His hard drive was crapping out, so he wanted us to copy everything on to a new hard drive. Ok, sure, fine. Surprise surprise, folders and folders of porn. Every folder was named something inconspicuous, like "vacation photos", "taxes", etc...
But for some reason, among all of those folders, was a folder labeled, "PORN". Yep, just straight up PORN. And it had all of the same similar oorn as the other folders. But this one was technically the only folder, correctly named.
I know this story isn't something crazy like invest porn. And I know there's ways of explaining it.
But it just threw me off is all.
We had a great date recovery program, for failing hard drives. And this guy had a lot of photos from work that were worth a lot of money (among the porn).
So I was in the middle of successfully recovering said data. When suddenly, the power in the entire store cut out ( due to my cheap ass boss at the time, using the same circuit breaker that was used for the repair pcs, that was ALSO used for the air compressor).
After that I couldn't recover the data and he had to spend like 3 grand with OnTrack data recovery.

It's like a non-violent version of SAW involving an actual cathartic payoff....so, way more compelling IMO.

    • @RainbowYak
      @RainbowYak 9 місяців тому

That's a really interesting comparison. Indeed, if SAW was real, it would be a complete failure. The psychopath dude in SAW claims to abduct and torture his victims because he wants them to learn cherish their life, freedom and good health. However, in reality, all he would achieve would be to complete traumatize his victims and to make them very bitter, angry and distrustful people who desperately seek vengeance and can't form stable connections with other humans for the rest of their lives. Derren Brown actually had a very positive impact on his "victim's" life and so he's clearly way cooler and smarter than the SAW guy.

Just an observation. Action héroes are often portrayed in a very particular way in films and TV. In war films in particular they are invariably tough and outgoing. The reality however is very different. The last two World Wars were won by the ordinary men and women, like Stephen, who displayed courage despite their fear. It is the ordinary hero in ourselves and in others that we should celebrate and recognise as the potential of everyone. I do not think I have seen a better demonstration of this than in Apocalypse. I was moved to tears on more than one occasion as I watched him face what were for him, life changing challenges. It would be interesting to see how his life hs progressed since this was first screened.I am sure he has made a great success of things.

First time I've ever watched this was tonight. While very entertaining it is clearly staged within an inch of its life.
    Giveaways:
Camera shots - composed, rules of three, golden ratio applied. Hero frames, tension angles. Not natural given the circumstances, and the chaos of events leading to unpredictable people behaviour.
Camera positions - they would all see the cameras, not all cameras are fixed. Some are directly in view of the main guy with no obstruction.
Acting - instinctual reaction to characters is that all are unnatural and posed in each given situation. Movie like...
Language - people don't speak like that. They use slang, call each other all sorts in tense situations. Very scripted.
Unnatural reactions and actions - classic bad acting when walking in fear. Leaving the bunker at the end a dead giveaway. They were walking in time to the camera pan shot to build tension. The camera was driving their movement, not the other way around.
Endless composition - nearly every action they took was in frame, up close etc.
architypes applied - the wise man walks with his staff on a journey. Saint Christopher. No one would walk to Wales with a walking stick as a priority. Now... a fire axe may come in handy right?
Logistics - simply think of all the camera, sound and lighting rigs required to do all of this. Think about the setup time for this equipment. The generators, noise, crew walking here and there. Holy smokes... a massive undertaking requiring weeks of filming. And months of preparation with an army of people to do the job. And nothing went wrong? The perfect story played out from beginning to end? Nope... not a chance. Where was catering for all the crew?
Would love to see the making of documentary.
Found it highly enjoyable, and a lot of fun picking holes. Still, a job well done.

It's not for me to judge someone but I can see so much of my younger self in Stephen sitting on the sofa taking his mom for granted and not showing any respect or appreciation for all the things she does for him. She's a really good mom like mine was. A lot of mothers wouldn't put up with a guy his age behaving like that and it's clearly upsetting and hurtful to her.
I feel like shaking him, telling him to get off the sofa start showing consideration and respect towards his mother. Show some maturity. A fully grown man who has his poor mother waiting him like a servant, making infantile noises in a disrespectful way when she tells him indirectly that he's lazy. Come on dude. What are you doing? That's no way to treat your mother. How do you think that makes your mother feel? Unloved. Not appreciated or respected. Failed as a mother maybe. Hurt and upset. Frustrated. No wonder mom is crying. It breaks my heart to see her crying and feeling like that. I really feel for her.
I lost my mother two years ago to cancer after a long battle she died suddenly. During the last years of her life when she was very ill and housebound I cared for her and spent as much time with her as possible. Although we hadn't been particularly close and our relationship was difficult at times, I developed a new special relationship and bond with her which meant a lot to her. During that time as I cared for around the clock (which is hard going) I suddenly appreciated all the things she'd done for me over her lifetime.i thought , god she's done this for years, DECADES for me. Basically dedicating herself to my happiness and helping me whenever I needed it, often putting her own needs aside so selflessly. She was so kind and caring. However at the time, in my younger years just like Stephen and many people I took her for granted. I even complained a lot and didn't consider her feelings or needs. I felt a deep sense of shame and guilt about that when she was given only 3 months left to live. So Ito make up for that and right that wrong, I did for her what she did for me. I used the time she had left to make her life as comfortable and good as it could be. I was happy to do that and also able to make one of her life wishes come true, before she died which gave her a wonderful experience and memories.
It's only after your mother, father or partner dies who has dedicated themselves to your well-being and happiness now no longer there for you do you truly appreciate them. Appreciating everything they've done for you throughout your life. All the sacrifices they made along the way for you, hardly complaining. When they've passed away, suddenly there's this big hole in your life you cannot fill. That unconditional constant love and support is gone. You realise that person and the relationship and bond you shared was special and unique. Probably unequalled by anything else you'll experience again. They were your anchor, your confidante and the one person in the world who understands you like nobody else. Someone you can always depend on to be there for you in good times and bad. Accepting of all your faults and never quick to judge you. Always the first to praise your achievements and encourage you. Giving you unconditional love and support.
That appreciation realisation is humbling and overwhelming when they pass away and you're holding their hand and saying goodbye. As the days, months and years pass you miss them not being there, hearing their voice and having them present in your life. You begin to think about the little things you could have said but didn't say so many times. How you could have behaved better by just appreciated them more and by showing greater consideration and perhaps been less selfish to this special person who has dedicated their life to make yours better.
Even approaching and after after death my mother didn't stop caring for me and was still looking out for me. She left me a legacy gift, financial independence and freedom for life. Opening doors and providing options in life I never dreamt possible. I can retire early at 51 and enjoy life without being preoccupied with earning a living. No more constant long hours running a business and worrying about the future. I would give it all away though in a heartbeat just to have my mom back and to give her the 30 years of her twilight retirement years she lost. I live those years for her in the example she taught me by being kind and compassionate helping others.
To anyone like Stephen reading this who takes their parents or partner for granted, tell them how much you appreciate them and say thank you regularly. Show your appreciation by doing little things for them. Don't only think of yourself. Think about their needs too. Often all a mother wants and needs is just to feel appreciated and loved. That's all. It's not much to ask is it? So easy to do that. And also very selfish, hurtful and cruel to deny them that.
So please, if you're taking your parents or partner for granted now, just stop and think about this. Show your love, appreciation and kindness towards them while you can. Do it regularly. Because I guarantee if don't, you'll end up wishing you had when they're gone and it's too late. You will experience and feel regret, guilt and shame during grieving and long after. Those are heavy emotional burdens to carry. That pain can be prevented right now by changing your behaviour today. Show them you can be loving, considerate and kind. See the smile light up their faces and the joy it brings them! You never know how much time you have left with someone you love. Use that time wisely. Don't hold back your feelings. Show love and affection in your own way Give thanks and show appreciation to that special person in your life. Always do your best to be kind and considerate towards them.
Live your life in the present day fully, and live for the moment. You may be surprised at the new you that emerges. And astonished how much better your relationships with people become and how your life becomes happier. Honour your mother and father who gave you life and invested everything into you. Make them proud and happy of their son or daughter, just by being a better and good natured person :-)
