It’s wild how most of those were such obvious trolling but at the same time they have some elements of truth discovered 20 years later. Like doing a frame perfect pause menu open to get in a weird state. But that terminology didn’t exist at the time. Though you’d still see posts describing pressing start while talking to a character, leaving out and causing confusion about which NPC and whether you press or hold it or if you press it at any point while talking to the npc or some people would assume you meant select not start. But the core idea is the same. Makes you wonder if someone really found that bug put 20 years ago or if random trolling just has a random chance of being correct chaotically. One direct specific example of this I have is theres a way in pokemon gen 1 to make stone evolution pokemon evolve without a stone. I forget the specific glitch and pokemon but I saw a UA-cam video about it a few months ago. Might’ve been tired to cycling hill. I think it had to do with leveling it up but having a specific move set or having a blank first move because you changed the order of moves around. It causes a weird memory glitch that triggers an evolve. Sounds like one of the uncle works at Nintendo stories. Btw I wonder how everyone heard that same lie. Why did so many kids lie with that same exact story. Whys it always an uncle at Nintendo. Did they hear it from a cousins friends at Thanksgiving across the country and just repeat the same lie? Thus implying they knew it was a lie? Or did they believe they had an uncle working there? Were they just making up stories about new things or were these stories they heard somewhere and sharing? So bizarre.
Major kudos to all of you guys, I don't usually speedrun but I love to watch this kind of video, if you ever upload a full speedrun of the game with this method I'll watch the whole thing, seeing this much love for a classic warms my heart.
This reads like one of those fake Aerith revival side quests from back in the day. 😂 Well done on figuring this all out! Hopefully something RTA Viable will come of it someday.
Technically has already been done by Ace! But through menuing after every frame of movement so the game "doesn't count the movement" which means no battle check. So it took Ace almost 5 hours to do it.
This is like... the modern day equivalent of a rain dance or something. It's pretty wild that this is actually doing something and not just superstition.
@@Black_Sephiroth Not nearly viable RTA yet because of the massive amount of world map movement to get through without an encounter, so stay tuned as to whether that problem can be solved lol
OK... Can you explain, or link to a write up that explains: 1. What "loading triangles" means in the context of this skip? 2. What is actually going on in-engine such that the simple act of walking back and forth in a frame/pixel perfect way is able to break the game and glitch Cloud out of bounds? 3. How was such an intricate series of steps figured out? It seems like the equivalent of throwing a bunch of Legos around in a bin and having them come out as a fully assembled house. I have to assume this was determined in a very systematic way, and I'm curious to learn what that process was.
AceZephyr will eventually make a video better than I can. Essentially Cloud stores the memory of the tile he walks on. When we get on the Chocobo these tiles aren't updated so we basically unload them and reload them which wasn't intended. The Kalm Skip explained video linked in the description better explains this but we have better knowledge of it now.
Yes, it was like tossing lego container for some time, opening it, figuring out that one red short piece turned around, shaking some more, finding yellow piece locked on green block, tossing some more, jumbled chaos, almost there, one toss more, and here you are, here's a fully functional lego city.
Thanks for the tutorial, you're amazing! Been waiting this for decades... I did this on the Switch version, it works but it's very precise, took me 2 days of trial and error. So far I've found that Yuffie doesn't spawn in any forest, Is this because a missed Flag doesn't activate this event Kuma? Also, if you want to 100% with Aeris in your party, unfortunatley, you miss a lot of stuff and the games bugs the hell out when visiting key story events.
@@KumaTV__ I found a route to get the PHS, this also includes fixing the Gold Saucer (Cait Sith) and involves using Diamond Weapon to trigger the correct events, it's a must to have a Golden Chocobo as the Highwind always spawns at 0,0 coordinates in the map thanks to the Buggy. I can cover the route if you're interested, I know that, just like me, wants a 100% save file with Aerith.
this is insane kuma.. this couldn't be RTA viable there's too many triangles to glitch but maybe a shorter path is possible. ace is trying to do it by menu buffering every frame.. i mean fuck it saves so much time that's probably still faster by a lot.
