What absolute garbage. This guy (civilian) strolls up on his bicycle and directs the area and begins giving commands to the first responders. What absolute horse****.
I would love to hear the radio traffic of that.
Patrol 1 "hey Sgt. Im getting told by a passerby on a bicycle that he wants traffic directed this way, to shut down these lanes and to break out our flares"
Sgt "absolutely, listen to all commands given by the man on the bicycle, in fact send him up to command to direct the rest of the cities operations and after that, make sure he's in the OR at the hospital to oversee surgeries and triage"
Get the **** out of here.

To play devils advocate, there have been mass shootings in the age where they are somewhat common and cops don’t know how to deal with that. Sometimes even requesting or needing help from civilians.
When it’s the worst terrorist attack in our history, I don’t think it’s far stretched to believe the cops didn’t know what to do then.

not saying he isn't embellishing (purposefully or not, traumatic experiences can do weird things to your memories.) but there is a very real possibility that could happen. in such a chaotic situation, people want direction, and it's not like there was time to check anyone's credentials. there were alot of off-duty firefighters, cops, ems, hospital employees, etc. who were out that day in civilian clothing doing whatever they could to help.
EDIT: not to mention, when those towers collapsed, the chain of command for alot of the rescue efforts, especially among the firefighters was broken. who do you turn to when the people organizing the initial rescue efforts are on site and killed by the collapse?

His description nails PTSD! The best you can hope is to get it all into your foot locker, close it up, latch and lock. You will eat every meal off of its flat surface from then on. You know where it is and you just don’t go into it.

I can actually confirm Casey's story to all u nay sayers. My father was a 49 yr old NYPD Lieutenant on 911. He arrived at St. Vincent's shortly after the North tower was hit. He admitted that he and other officers were completely lost as to what to do. After all his training, this was something no one could be prepared for. In the midst of the confusion...a young curly headed hero emerged from the smoke on his boosted board, camcorder in hand, and began to take control, directing traffic and launching drones to locate injured people.

Sounds like he made that hero story up about directing all the police and making people grab cots and sheets. Turned it into a Tom cruise movie getting blown off the bicycle from the explosion 1000 feet in the sky. Other than that, that was a crazy story. Definitely something you will always have seared into your mind.

Casey is so compelling and fun to watch but I just get city bullshit from this. I'm sure he experienced 9/11 and is probably traumatized by it but do I believe he was commanding police and fire fighters at a hospital entrance? Absolutely not. I don't even think Andrew believed that bit
