    Hello,
Great video as always, but I don't understand the distance total of putts. What useful information can I derive for total feet of putts?
Will counting the number of putts be a better stat to keep?
Please provide more information on distance of each putt and its meaning!!!
    Thx

    Good advice.
Here's a stat that I think is critical but rarely discussed. We all know that "greens in regulation" is an important number to track. But beyond that, I've always felt it important to consider how often you are "long" on your approach shots.
Over 40 years of playing this game I've seen a vast number of golfers that consistently play entire rounds of golf without ever hitting a "long" approach shot. It stands to reason that if you're clubbing yourself accurately, some shots will obviously be past the pin. Of course, you're going to miss more of your shots short because of mis-hits (excluding the dreaded thin shot) but you will hit a certain percentage of these shots solidly - and these are the ones that are important to track.
When I play a round of golf I am rather obsessive about trying to use more club than I think I should. During a "bad swing" round, I often deliberately use the "one more club" strategy knowing full-well that I will be long if I strike the ball purely. And on occasion that will happen and I'll be over the green. But it in the long run, I will benefit, often striking the ball off-center but ending up "pin high".
There's one "stat" that all golfer pay attention to: that is, how many holes-in-one have you had.
My number is 8. I've played a lot of golf with my lowest handicap being a 2 and playing at a solid 5. I've played with a lot of golfers who I consider better golfers than me and yet when we compare the number of holes-in-one we've had, I've concluded that I've had many more than my "fair share".
I've wondered why that would be. Only recently I've developed a theory that my obsessive tendency to risk "missing long" is the key factor. My last two aces happened when I was in my early 70's (I'm 75 now). My "regular" group are a little bit younger with similar golf histories and handicaps. And over the last 10 years of golfing with these guys I've noticed that they are rarely, if ever "long". And our total number of aces is 11.
    It's rather obvious ... I've you're never long, you will never make a hole-in-one.
And here's another golf saying that I love: 90% of all putts that are short, never drop (kindly don't correct my percentage. It's meant to be funny).
    Cheers

First year player here, 29 in HCP. My stats are (so far over 13 rounds):
    FIR: 47.1%
    GIR: 18.3%
U&D: 21% (but 40% over my last five rounds)
    SS: 12.5%
I'm fairly pleased with my FIR so far and the chipping and scrambling is coming along nicely. GIR is the next goal I'm working towards, among many other things, of course. Still tons of things to learn four months into my golfing "career".

i recently had an ebook sent me via a golf mag website, it had stats compiled from shot scope, major thing it noted was that nearly all golfers even some low handicaps dont take enough club when hitting into the green, also curiously it said use Driver off the tee basically all the time (on longer holes) rather than 3 wood, as the loss of accuracy of the driver is countered by the driver shot being on average 30 to 40 yards more than the 3 wood and so its better for that 2nd shot to the green to be shorter. another major thing was leaving putts short ! cheers

I found it interesting that I already track these during my rounds, I keep track of greens in regulation, 1 putts, and bunkers. I usually hit 10 or better fairways, but since I don't drive the ball very far I'm trying for greens from outside 150 yards, which for me is a hybrid, not the best for hitting the green. When I used to hit the ball further I hit more greens, so I used to shoot 80 with 7 three putts, now I need 7 one putts, and they're not for birdies :)

Hi, as I am not a long hitter, I can hit the fairway but not close enough to hit the green easily. So should I work on my driving, approach play or ups and downs?

Fairways hit is a blunt instrument. Missing a fairway by a foot has little impact on your game. Missing by 15m into OB a lot more. Both count the same in that stat.

    Beginner here...
So what is an up and down and what is a sand save?

    • @andreas3505
      @andreas3505 4 роки тому +2

If you miss the green (gir) but manage to chip it on and one put, that would be an up and down. Sand save is the same I belive but you do it from a bunker (not sure about sand save)

Sand save is finishing the hole with a par or better from a greenside bunker.

My goals are 11-12 GIR. Less than 30 putts. Zero chunks, or skulls. Zero balls out of play. And zero 3-putts. This will put me right around par.

so does a 18 handicapper count GIR as on in 3 on a par 4 etc?

    • @travismiller9449
      @travismiller9449 4 роки тому +1

That is how I do it. I am a 15 handicap so on the 15 hardest holes I add one shot to the par. So if it is a par 4, to me it is a par 5 so I would count a GIR as 3 shots instead of 2. Hope that answers your question

    FW: 4
    GIR: 2
    U&D: 0
    SS: 0
PF: not sure if you count the length of the first putt, if you hole it
    or
if you count the length of the second putt if you hole it.
    Oof! 😬

Not much use to the average club golfer- if you make a lot of GIRs & get Up+Down or single putt those you don't, you're playing off low single figures & don't need this video.
