Love these tips, but just a warning to tourists, Flugplatz Johannistal is abandoned but also surrounded by fences. It's technically illegal to go inside so be careful going there. You will have to find a hole in the fence and a company is currently renovating the area. Be discrete and smart when entering :)
As a person born in Berlin I personally didn’t even know all of these secret tips lol I should probably check out my city a bit more instead of staying in my apartment most of the time, thank you for this video!
As a liftime Berliner I can tell you: The platform of the TV tower is my favorite spot in Berlin. Height of 203m compared to the platform at Potsdamer Platz with 100m.
Commenting on this 3 years later: Also am a berliner. 23€ is like... nothing now. I wonder what it actually costs now. We're currently planning a trip to swiss and that really puts things into perspective on what some places CAN cost. Most of the planning revolves around thinking about chosing an airbnb instead of a hotel, simply because it gives us the option to cook our food because paying 30€+ per person for ONE meal is just insane to us. So I think a lot of tourists will think that 23€ for getting on the higherst tower in berlin is extraordinarily cheap. I mean... feel free to look up the prices for other tourist traps in other cities around the world. E.g. Empire State Building in New York, if you want to go to the top floor, that's $79 per person and children a laughable $73. For most tourists, at 23€, the question really isn't "Is this worth my money?", it's "Is this worth my time?". And it's still probably a decent experience (I myself haven't been up there since... I don't know, maybe even before the berlin wall fell.) if you didn't have to wait in line for an hour. I'm not saying it's the best thing to do in Berlin. If I thought that, I would have gone there myself in the last 30 years. What I AM saying is that to some international viewers, saying "this is incredibly expensive at 23€" may be borderline funny. It's great that there are alternatives like the Panaorama Point or even just the Park Inn but a lot of tourists will be like "yeah, I'd rather just pay 10-15 bucks more and do the popular thing." and it's not going to be the worst mistake of their life.
I LOVED THE TV TOWER RESTAURANT. If I would have seen the TV tower alone, honestly you can find an alternative for the same view but the restaurant is something different. When I was small I saw in a movie that some people went to that rotating restaurant and made a wish to get there. Years later there I was in Berlin and when I saw the TV tower I passed by and thought that it looks like a tourist trap but then in the last day I gave in to peer pressure because my friends were keen to visit the TV tower. When I got to the TV tower in the last moment I saw it is also a restaurant there and in the last moment they had a table for me. It was so stunning seeing the sunset in that restaurant and I realised then that I made my childhood dream a reality and my experience was amazing, I was so happy, it was the best way to spend my last evening in Berlin 💖
The TV tower is a historical and architectural achievement, it will probably become the last important GDR building standing. A status the Panorama Tower will never obtain.
I totally agree. It is an unique experience. The food is not so great but the prizes there are not so high in comparision to the others in famous places. It's worth the view and you can avoid all the crowded floor under the restaurant.
As a Berliner, Teufelsberg is probably my favorite spot in Berlin. It has a great view (if you don’t want to pay the 5€ you can just go to the Drachenberg right next to it), you can still go in the station and take pictures (for free) and you can look at all the amazing graffiti art that often is sprayed on huge walls. On top of that, through the 5€ you’re paying for the upkeep of the station keeping it accessible. Sidebote: Nowadays kebabs cost 5-6€ in most stores.
I would doubt he is originally from Berlin. There is something about him or his accent, that gives me the impression, he moved from Southern Germany to Berlin.
My favorite Cold War tourist spot in Berlin was the Stasi Museum in Lichtenberg. It is in the former HQ building of the East German state police, and in the museum you can learn about how they spied on their citizens, and even wander through the old offices of the heads of the Stasi. It was only 6€, which was a real bargain.
I've been doing a lot of planning about my trip to Berlin, and now I stumble upon this video with places no blog or webpage has even mentioned. dude, thank you sooooooooooooo much for this video!!!

I mean the view from the Drachenberg (the mountain next to the Teufelsberg) is definitely worth a visit. But having to pay 5 Euro for the spy station is in my opinion a tourist trap because there is not much to see and you can only access very few parts of the station.
Hallo from Phoenix Arizona. My son lives in Berlin. I spent 6 weeks there the summer before COVID. He lived in Kreuxberg then and now Mitte. I loved Berlin. Can’t wait to come back. Out of all the places you mention, I only went to Ka De We. So much to see!
He is right. I'm glad we avoided all those spots. The East Gallery was my favorite thing in Berlin and free.

The view from the Siegessäule is very nice, too, and it's definitely on the cheaper side (even though it's extremely tourist-y). You just have to be prepared to climb a shitton of flights of stairs.
I totally agree with you! Bus 100 is the better option instead a Hop-on Hop-off! And City Pirates Audio Guide is a great surprise! Thank you very much from a resident from Berlin!
Where did you get the 100 bus at the Zoo ? The 100 bus we went on was not a double decker and it was packed full of people on a boiling hot day wearing a face mask 😷
I hiked up to Teufelsberg a few months ago, only to find it closed for another month or so. I did however find a perfectly human sized hole cut in the fence, so I ventured in, climbed up the side, and was able to get to the very top of the highest dome. Was a very thrilling adventure. Unfortunately when time came to leave, some worker who was apparently there at the same time had closed up the hole I came through, so I was trapped in the spy towers 😅

lol like the mirror flex at potsdamer platz Side note "bier und buletten" at the TV tower is always a win for the friends visiting but true it isn't cheap.
1:12 Seven Kebap for 23€ are cheap! In the southwest of Germany one can at best get 4,5 for the same price Edit: You are the german "honest guide". One day I'd love to see the lost places in person.
Nowadays prices are also at 4.5. Maybe there are still cheaper ones but that would be quite rare. I remember that 13 years ago, there was an offer to get a kebab for 1.5 every Wednesday and they were perfectly fine !
Thank you for this channel. You saved me 10s of € when I was there for four days. No.1 The Berlin Welcome Pass = ripoff my full days there were friday saturday and sunday. so 72hr pass cost €35. They don't do normal 3 day passes so I bought a 3 one day passes for €24.75 and No.2 is the Television Tower = ripoff charging €25 so I went to the panoramapunkt building cost €9 . I loved my experience at the TV tower's revolving restaurant when I last visited Berlin, but it's an excellent video nonetheless. When I visited West Berlin in the 80s, the tower was a very daunting sight ; its ubiquity was like a cocky reminder of the reality of the cold war.
In the 90s my mates and me used to play cross boccia in Humboldthain Park. Probably before the term was even invented. Before that we got some bottles of cheap red wine from the Aldi nearby. Good times!

1’41 that WOW is so hilarious ! Just love it !!! I visited Köln, Frankfurt, Munich, but haven’t been to Berlin yet. Thank you so much for those previous tips.
I'm currently writing a romantic travel story (mixed with mafia elements) and one of the scenes mentioned is Germany but i couldn't choose between the major cities. Your tips about Berlin helps me a lot since my character is gullible and easily gets swayed by touristy stuff while her partner is like you, knowledgeable and chooses the alternatives. Thank you for this ❤
Great video and great suggestions. I wish I saw it before going to Berlin. However, I disagree on the Teufelsberg one. I was able to go all the way up this summer and it was spectacular. It's one of my favorite places of Berlin. I'll check out the bandos next time.
Dankeeeee :) great tips!! I just recently moved here and I'm so happy I get to show my friends who are going to visit me some cooler spots of Berlin so thanks a lot!! :)
Incredible tips!! I'll be in Berlin in March and I have planned to visit the TV Tower. But the Flak Tower seems much more interesting for me. Thanks a lot :)
great video, thanks! When I visisted Berlin I also didn't go to the fernsehturm, but instead the Park-In hotel nearby. Much cheaper and way less crowded. Also I would avoid the east side galary, too many tourists there. There are better places to see the wall. Also, I thought you would mention Charley checkpoint as well, since it's a scam
Thanks! 😄 Yes at the east side gallery are a lot of tourists, but it's for free and the paintings on the wall there are unique. I was going to mention Checkpoint Charlie but they are remodeling the whole area there and they also recently banned the soldiers standing around, so not sure how it will be in the future.
1:00 simply book a meal in the TV-Tower Restaurant - you get a fixed time to arrive SO YOU DONT HAVE TO WAIT and have 1h to finish your meal. you can also go to the view plattfrom then ;)
I was on the TV tower 15 years ago when it was half the price and it was definitely worth it. But given the price now, I probably would prefer the Kollhoff tower. Potsdamer Platz is worth a visit anyway! Slight correction regarding the TV tower: Its full height is 368 meters, the restaurant is at ~200 meters. Still high enough for a fantastic view.
I've visited Berlin's TV tower. I spent about 15 minutes for queue, 2 hours for waiting and 15 minutes for watching :D TV Tower in Dusseldorf more available - visit is cheaper and it hasn't queue. My worst experience was in Moscow - I spent 2 hours in queues (4 times) and 20 euros, but view was fantastic.
The Simon-Dach-Straße is next to my School :D It's not really the street that is expensive, but the area, Friedrichshain. In fact, Friedrichshain is one of the most expensive areas in Berlin for everything.
The most amazing view of the city is atop the Fernsehturm. Well worth the price in my opinion. You can get a pretty decent lunch at the revolving restaurant on the upper deck for less than 30 euros. I don't usually go to this kind of tourists joint, but it was definitely a highlight of my first time in Berlin, it was just so cool to be up there for an hour. I'm from Kanada by the way and I like your wacky videos.
150 grams of Doner kebap with rice price vary from 22 tl to 35 tl in Ankara Turkey. Sprite or fanta is sold at 6 tl, salad is 12 tl. Soup price is 13 tl in Ankara. Chinese or japanese meals total price are high in Ankara Turkey. When I order Ramen with mixed meat, shrimp; rice, soup, meat dish, prince sushi plate and japanese beer; then the total price is at least 350 tl, i.e. 37 euros.
if you come out of the kochstrasse u bahn stop, waolk towards check point charlie, and then turn left shortly before you get there and walk down koch strasse to the end of the street and then turn right for a block and then left on niederkirchner strasse there is still part of the wall standing right there.
I mean yes I agree with you about not going to the most famous places where everyone goes if you lived in Berlin or visit a lot but for someone who has to travel from the other side of the world I wouldn't miss the belin tower or Alexander platz for nothing and yes even if the price is more expensive.Either way that was a good video and interesting information for a lot of people
@@RadicalLiving thank you good sir! After this all is over i hope to visit Berlin and maybe we'll share a beer or two. I have been to Munich and Vilsbiburg and and I totally agree with your video hahahhahah!

Your tips about Berlin helps me a lot since my character is gullible and easily gets swayed by touristy stuff while her partner is like you, knowledgeable and chooses the alternatives. Thank you for this ❤
Wtf is a romantic travel story mixed with mafia elements
@@davidwhite2412 hahahahah
your character sounds like every other main character
Nice, but romance is too cliché for a story.
Awesome vids bro cheers from Tel Aviv ;)
You can now go up on the roof again on Teufelsberg. I think it's totally worth visiting!
Great video and great suggestions. I wish I saw it before going to Berlin. However, I disagree on the Teufelsberg one. I was able to go all the way up this summer and it was spectacular. It's one of my favorite places of Berlin. I'll check out the bandos next time.
Best View Point is also at Gesundbrunnen Berlin (thats in Wedding). There's a park where you can go up FOR FREE and it's gorgeous at sunset.
I'm gonna go next month to Berlín and I was looking for tips in YT and now I'm obsessed with your channel. 💜
The TV tower was worth it for me, it's brilliant
Your videos are so great funny direct and helpfull!!! Thanks! Excited to visit berlin
Happy to hear that! Have fun!
I so much agree on the TV tower! Such a waist of money!
Dankeeeee :) great tips!! I just recently moved here and I'm so happy I get to show my friends who are going to visit me some cooler spots of Berlin so thanks a lot!! :)
As a heads up - Blub is no longer there. It’s now a big hole in ground prior to getting some building put up in it’s stead.
thank you - that saved me some time!
We are going to Berlin the first week of September. Can't wait!
Thanks so much for this. I am coming to Berlin in October and now I know which places to visit!!
I came to Berlin because of this video🔥🔥
Perfect vid for my Berlin Trip this Weekend 👌
Incredible tips!! I'll be in Berlin in March and I have planned to visit the TV Tower. But the Flak Tower seems much more interesting for me. Thanks a lot :)
Great guide with an entertaining twist, really enjoyed it
Thank you , you have inspired me to visit Berlin ...
Your site and videos have been so helpful and entertaining! Heading to Berlin this week!
Great to hear! Have fun!
great video, thanks!
The Simon-Dach-Straße is next to my School :D
It's not really the street that is expensive, but the area, Friedrichshain. In fact, Friedrichshain is one of the most expensive areas in Berlin for everything.
The Juliusturm (Julius Tower) at Zitadelle Spandau, is also a nice viewing point...
Thx for your video, it helped me a lot for my first time in Berlin .
37 euros.
Lol, I just got an ad to visit so many of the tourist traps you mentioned.
if you come out of the kochstrasse u bahn stop, waolk towards check point charlie, and then turn left shortly before you get there and walk down koch strasse to the end of the street and then turn right for a block and then left on niederkirchner strasse there is still part of the wall standing right there.
I mean yes I agree with you about not going to the most famous places where everyone goes if you lived in Berlin or visit a lot but for someone who has to travel from the other side of the world I wouldn't miss the belin tower or Alexander platz for nothing and yes even if the price is more expensive.Either way that was a good video and interesting information for a lot of people
I watched most of your videos since yesterday. You sir deserve a subscribtion.
I appreciate that! Welcome aboard! 😁
@@RadicalLiving thank you good sir! After this all is over i hope to visit Berlin and maybe we'll share a beer or two. I have been to Munich and Vilsbiburg and and I totally agree with your video hahahhahah!
Been living in Berlin for 6 years and only been to Weserstraße from all the stuff u mentioned.. I need to take it easy on partying and discover new places
😅
Great video! I've always wanted to avoid the tourist traps and find the authentic places. I never thought there would be videos on it on UA-cam. I'm off to Berlin in a few weeks time so this is great. Thank you 😊
I have a piece of the wall from 1990, I walked down and picked it up. The wall is original, but the spraypaint, probably not.
The DDR museum is amazing, its really interactive and interesting.
The one at Kulturbreaueri?
@@AlexWinkler the one in mitte along the river.
Still waiting for the radical living party! I'll bringing some drinks!
Wow, l lived in Treptow-Kopenick, Johanisthal. Never knew that an airfield is around. Cool. Another view point is for those who are nostalgic after the soviet union buildings and architecture in general is Skywalk Marzahner Promenade.
Ill be there in a month or so, see you guys soon!
Have fun!
@@RadicalLiving I can’t wait I hope to live there!!!
