      Not sure if you can find it, but old 2b2c or ymh had a guest that told Tom "you're going to be doing this forever " because he has kids to support and they're both under 10. Seems like Tom tried to fast track his monetary gain and lost sight of longevity.. he's burning himself out, possibly financially.

    Tom Segura grew up as the son of a vice president at Merrill Lynch. He grew up with money and never had to worry about money. That’s why he’s spent 40 years trying to make it as a comedian, because he could. Tom telling people that they should figure out is the funniest thing he has ever said.

    Mannnn you nailed it. This totally validated how I have been feeling about them both the last 2.5 years. I really thought I was just being another "loser" that hated on peoples success. Seeing all these old clips in contrast to their new stuff really shines a light on how out of touch they both have become. Tom was by far my favorite comedian for a LONG time. I never liked Bert's comedy that much, but I enjoyed his dynamic with Tom on 2B1C. Now, I can't STAND to hear either of them speak longer than 5 minutes without being annoyed. Hearing Tom basically gloat about how much money he blows, immediately reminds me of a bit he did in his "Totally Normal" special from 2014. He talks about shopping for things WAY out of his price range knowing he can't afford it. Now instead of relating to his audience, he basically says "haha I'm rich, you're poor! Good joke right?!"

      @samael4550 8 місяців тому

      Yeah idk about that one lmao. Especially if the guy doesn’t normally read, he’s not gonna read a whole book for a singular episode of a podcast. And that doesn’t make him an awful person lmao, or even really a bad host. You don’t have to read an entire book to have someone make a guest appearance on YOUR show. And Tarantino is just fucking annoying, like Jesus Christ just say “I know you didn’t read it”, the way he’s so Hollywood and over-the-top was painfully cringy to watch.
      (I don’t even like Segura and agree with this video, but the Tarantino example is the weakest of the bunch, by far)

    • @stevenleblanc8146
      @stevenleblanc8146 8 місяців тому

      I agree. Why does a host have to read a guest's book before an appearance? If they wrote books for a living, having at least one under the belt would probably help with the episode but if they played shortstop, is watching them play baseball not enough? The host has to buy their vodka and cologne too? Maybe give em a rub and tug while they're busy hanging off their nuts.

      No, Tom did change. He had a catastrophic, extremely public injury, whilst at the SAME time, probably making 10x more money than he’s used to. This stuff DOES change someone. When the entire world is falling apart, you’re more successful than you’ve ever been, and you had a legitimate health crisis, you might dial in and become very practical very fast. Tom couldn’t help but capitalize on everything being thrown at him, and probably became a slave to this opportunity. I didn’t stop watching YMH becuase Tom became a dick, he was kinda always a bit of a dick. It just became a whole lot less fun, becuase I can tell Tom isn’t having any fun. It’s all very inorganic and purpose built. We can feel how forced it is. That’s the problem.
      Edit: Oh yeah, he also had two kids during this period. If you can’t see how all this could overcook a person and alter them, you’re not thinking about it right.

It seems like all sense of self-awareness has been completely lost. It's so weird to watch Tom and Christina totally and unironically devolve into the exact type of people they used to point and laugh at when they were building their audience.
    I don't think I'm alone among og fans of Tom and YMH that think the key turning points for Tom was when his dad died and when he got hurt from the dunk contest. Its like the combination of the loss of his dad keeping him grounded with the months of the entire internet laughing at his life-threatening injury really changed everything.
