5455 dyna 4 are very popular loader tractors . You can set how aggressive the gear speeds are set up via the right hand consul . Sorry but I think driver error may be to blame not the gearbox
I love my 5460. 2000 hours in four years no problem. I do hay, seeding, snow, transport feed cattle, it is my do all tractor and i really love it and sometime light is Best .
Massey doesn't even have any service bulletins out for the 5400 series tractor. That series have been bomb proof in most senarios . I have a 5460. My favorite tractor. It hasn't missed a day of work since I bought it twelve years ago.
@farmersimonk dont think it was in autoshift, as it only happened now and again and only after changing direction. It also developed a delay with engaging drive after releasing the clutch pedal, but the shuttle lever had no delay at all.
Chanced upon this, some thoughts. Already mentioned but if the rotary dial isn't basically dialled up to "max" then you will get the serious delay on clutch engagement you filmed, think it's bad in field try on road at junctions and the like-it's downright dangerous. The random gear shifts ? probably the pedal sensors, they incorrectly " interpret " some movements as input to select a gear/range change, though solenoids can also be an issue.Drive one-involuntarily- at work, not enjoyable at all.
Aye sounds like its the reverse solonoids, Just out of interest how many hours are on it?. My MF 5460 had the same problem seem to be worse once I had been along the road and she heated up a wee bit. All sorted now tho just had 2 change a wee solonoid in at the clutch pedal, 5 min job!
The gearbox in this tractor had serious issues, even after the dealer spent a day messing around with it and eventually recalbrating it, they still couldn't get it right. This 5545 is just a bad apple
Dyna gearboxes are fucking irritating i agree, but thats only if you use them on the road and stuff. They work like a dream for stuff like rowing and bailing
we have a 6460 and a 6290 (with loader) both as luxury as possible. Personal I prefer de gearbox of the 6290, almost fully automatic, only have to use the clutch when changing from group 2 to group 4 (from zero to max 8 gears). the 6460 has a fully automatic gearshiftfunction. but to much gears! from 0 till max speed = 12 gears. horrible. Next tractor is going to be a vario definitely!!
I don't get it - what was wrong - i've looked n listened , wotz e problem? I use an Industrial - MF40 or 50B or 11 with Torq drives - Seemplz - choose the gear for the terrain and get going.. Have to advise a customer on one of these newer machines - Dyna this that and t'other - Think I'll go Deere an get a powershift or instant reverse type machine. Left Foot doing nothing and hands all over the place is is ridiculous ! Thanx for the video input
@MultiInni Ah sure not at all, I know well what I'm at and there was an obvious problem with the tractor, any eejit would cop that, and on the plus side, at least I know how to use my future tense verbs!
We have a MF 6455 (pretty much same tractor) and I'm not a massive fan either. I don't like the powershift being on the steering column, it's an inconvenient place to put it because I would normally steer with my left hand and change gear with my right. The powershift is much easier if it's on the gear stick because then all gears can be done with right hand. Plus it's useless at pulling on the road, gutless engine compared to our same and case of same size, don't like the fact that the engine sounds like a van, not a tractor. No grunt whatsoever.
Chris Reymer I don't think I would ever encounter a scenario where I needed to use the loader joystick and change gear at the same time. Because I would get into the right gear before grabbing a bale, scooping up muck ect...
I can handle a dynashift and I think masseys are okay but just prefer a john deere especially on the hedge cutter. You cant change gears and control the hedgecutter at the same time on a massey. Dynashift okay for road work silage and everything else.
im not gonna say u a bad driver cause i bet u r very good. But im 13 i drive a 5465 a 5455 and an 8240 sometimes a 3000 (all the tractors we have on our farm). both of the masseys r dyna shift and have loaders i mostly drive the 5455 and i love the gear box so easy to use and not complicated at all!. so i would put it down to a problem with the individual tractor u r using all tractors have a personal problem and on the tractor u r driving its the gearbox all the other 5455 i know (alot) r great
I don't know if any of us drivers in "normal" tractors should complain about bad gearboxes. The guy's you'd expect to complain are the russians in their Belarus. Talk about unpleasant transmissions but you never hear anything about that. Their fingers are perhaps to damaged by vibrations to even write about their missery.
guess the problem is more computer related than anything else and eventhough it should make things easy the computers cause a lot of downtime for every machine they control and if you want to fix stuff you need to be more a computer wizzard than a mecanic ..
your in a dyna 4 you are using a dyna 4 what you want and need is a dynashift that is a manual you are using a T bar right the dynashift has a gear stick and simple shit look them up
if he was on one of these for 6 years then he would have been 16, dont think any parent would let a 16 year old loose on a brand new tractor, what do you think? regardless automatic gears shouldnt be let near a tractor, it is asking for trouble... there is a massey dyna 6 overview vid and it says when going up a hill in manual, changing gears you must apply the brakes to a void the machine rolling back down the hill, shows you what they know... 35 was a great invention.
dyna is nothing but scrap if you ask me my friend.i absolutely detest it,worst thing to ever come on the market.give me my power quad or range command anyday
you say in your vid that there is a delay well you can change that by the t bar and as far as the gearbox goes its one of the best for loader tractors i spent the best part of 6 years on a 5455 with the dyna 4 box all i can say is its a bad driver.
Well Paddy, you appear to be in the minority regarding the gearbox. Have you considered reading the bleep Operators Manual, or calling your local MF dealer ? Perhaps a look on You Tube might make things a bit clearer. Seems to me the problem is in the cab, not the gearbox.
What happened to school? anyways, yes you can be young and be a good driver but an adult will always have more sense, well.... alot of them anyways, you do get a few apes...
@farmersimonk dont think it was in autoshift, as it only happened now and again and only after changing direction. It also developed a delay with engaging drive after releasing the clutch pedal, but the shuttle lever had no delay at all.

john connolly same here
I love my 5460. 2000 hours in four years no problem. I do hay, seeding, snow, transport feed cattle, it is my do all tractor and i really love it and sometime light is Best .
I have a 5450 dyna 4 and it's the best 100hp tractor I've ever driven!
Massey doesn't even have any service bulletins out for the 5400 series tractor. That series have been bomb proof in most senarios . I have a 5460. My favorite tractor. It hasn't missed a day of work since I bought it twelve years ago.
@GRASSorMUCK no that wasnt the issue i dont think. tractor did develop gearbox problems recently though
@MrFoxman360 Oh right. The newer masseys do suffer from stupid intermittent electrical problems. French made....

Lovely tractors and love the dyna 4

Must have been in auto shift. I think it's a great gearbox, except for the auto change.
Dyna gearboxes are fucking irritating i agree, but thats only if you use them on the road and stuff. They work like a dream for stuff like rowing and bailing

that has the same problem as mine its the reverse solonoids getting hot and fail realy anoying
@7810ftw oh right, that would make sense alright, thanks!
@MultiInni Ah sure not at all, I know well what I'm at and there was an obvious problem with the tractor, any eejit would cop that, and on the plus side, at least I know how to use my future tense verbs!

and what is your right hand doing when you are operating a loader?
Chris Reymer I don't think I would ever encounter a scenario where I needed to use the loader joystick and change gear at the same time. Because I would get into the right gear before grabbing a bale, scooping up muck ect...
Chris Reymer
We're talking about left hand powershift, not left hand shuttle.

i personly dont mind the dyna 4 but i really hate dyna 6
I love Dyna-4..
I don't know whats wrong with you?
I also love this tractor :)
This tractor may not be the best in fields but when its on the road it can fairly move
@6470bigshtyle yess! Dyna 6 ftw! Massey has got everything covered

Nothing beat a Volvo BM 350 boxer!!!
last time i drove one of them i fell of the bloody seat!!
guess the problem is more computer related than anything else and eventhough it should make things easy the computers cause a lot of downtime for every machine they control and if you want to fix stuff you need to be more a computer wizzard than a mecanic ..
yea...apart from the few 1000 or so tractors that have blatently obvious gearbox issues!
your in a dyna 4 you are using a dyna 4 what you want and need is a dynashift that is a manual you are using a T bar right the dynashift has a gear stick and simple shit look them up
@aaron7610man you said it!
if he was on one of these for 6 years then he would have been 16, dont think any parent would let a 16 year old loose on a brand new tractor, what do you think? regardless automatic gears shouldnt be let near a tractor, it is asking for trouble...
