*Correction in 00:14 - it may well be the case that 31:10 starts a new, different section, separate from vv.1-9, that this is not King Lemuel's mother teaching his son, but just another separate teaching section.
Proverbs 31:10-31
Virtuous wife (marriage, husband, wife)
- A word from a mother to her son about a woman to marry
o Such important words of wisdom from mom to son should be the norm
- Various qualities - wisdom, character, diligence, faithfulness, support of husband - they come from one foundational thing - fear of the LORD (31:30)
- A wife can be a crown to a husband or rottenness in his bones (12:4)
- Behind many solid men/those that really made an impact in the world/for the Lord were solid wives and mothers
- Men, the outcome of the marriage is mainly going to be determined by you. You’re the head/leader, make sure you know your responsibility that God set in the beginning
- Being a one-woman-man (faithful husband) is one of the top qualifications for pastors/elders who lead churches
- Due to there being so many husbands that don’t know how to be a husband, dropping the ball, there are so many wives that turn to the kids and get the affection from them which is not what the kids were designed for
o There are many women that are too attached to the kids and there are negative outcomes
- Various qualities - wisdom, character, diligence, faithfulness, support of husband - they come from one foundational thing - fear of the LORD (31:30)
- What are the really important qualities in a woman? Devotion to the Lord, from which comes character, Christlikeness, etc and outward beauty is down in the list
- All of Scripture points to Christ
o Christ is the personification of wisdom
o We see much on the topic of wife, marriage in Proverbs and this also points to Christ and His bride
- Christ and the church is the model for Christian marriages - husbands and wives
- Just like Christ is working on His bride, Christian husbands love, lead, “work on” their wives as the head
- In 10 years, 20, 30 years, will your wife be more beautiful biblically? If not, it’s your fault, husband
- May men of God and women of God be raised up esp. in this lost day and age
o Will you be a part of this?
