I love how the sequels aren't just about compassion for others, but also, in the case of Ben Solo, compassion for yourself. Ben has to forgive himself before he can truly come back over to the light.
Another fun parallel that stood out to me is that she "killed him" in the same way he killed Han, which was his greatest sin that he felt the most broken about. Then she healed all the wounds. I read this as helping him resolve his past. Rey was healing him in more ways than just the physical. It was allowing him to experience the harm he had inflicted for himself, as a step in becoming a better person.
@@PZLovell yes i believe rey healing allowed him to conjure up han in his head to look at his sin and accept the mistake and the only thing he could do now was try and help rey the tros novel said han was the past rey is the light his light if he didn't come back for her palp would have won
The beautiful thing is that this is all coming from a girl who was abandoned by the people who were supposed to love her the most. She was forced to fight for herself and learn to survive in a harsh, unrelentingly cruel world and she still knows right from wrong. She still thinks of others before herself. I think that sums her up pretty well. Also, congrats on 400 subscribers!
WORD BABY! I think that part of her compassion for others is the fact she knows exactly how it feels to mistreated and abandoned and won't be that person.
Great video, I love Kylo and Rey as characters. I came to the same conclusion about the "You're a monster" - "Yes I am" lines after watching TLJ a couple of times. It's clear Han and Leia loved Ben, but it seems he was treated like a ticking time-bomb his whole life. If everyone has always acted like they're scared of you, what kind of relationships can you really build? When Luke betrays Ben, it's the final straw - if everyone is going to treat him like a monster, then he might as well embrace his Dark Side. So Kylo wants people to fear him. I think it's an interesting twist on "fear leads to the Dark Side". For Anakin, it was *his* fear of losing Padme that largely caused his turn. For Ben it was *other people's* fear of him that pushed him towards the Dark.
I'm pretty sure Han and Leia deeply regret being afraid and neglectful towards Ben. He needed them to be there for him but they obviously placed their work before family. Sidious and Snoke preyed on him by exploiting his feelings of inadequacy and abandonment, as well as Leia's guilt and desperation to protect her son from himself.

Most people write it off as being selfish but really it’s how you heal and become better) I so wish he had survived to see the fruits of his efforts, I think he and Rey could have created and healed something much greater than either of them had destroyed or ruined. His story hurts my heart, and his loss makes me hurt for Rey as well, but having their story as a reminder of the importance of compassion really helps me heal from the lack of it. Thank you.

The sequels are extremely popular with many fans. The fans of old are just p*** because the myth of the oh-so-wise and powerful Jedi was once more dismantled. Who said that there can be no peace in the galaxy without the Jedi? With them, as long as we've followed them there was nothing but war over and over. Star Wars is about compassion and family, not about gloryfing the Jedi as the epitome of the lonesome cowboy, which was what unbalanced the Force in the first place. I daresay the Jedi order will be rebuilt some time or other, but Force users first need to learn to take on another attitude: not taking small children away from home to make soliders out of them, letting them choose whether they want to become Jedi or not, learning how to have healthy attachments, not focus on the Light Side so much because it causes an imbalance.
Great video, and I agree with you on the message of compassion. I do think compassion is an important theme of Star Wars and a good message, but I also think it's relative. While everyone should strive to be compassionate, I'm not sure if every person owes each and every other person their compassion at all times. Should the victim of an abuser feel pressure to show them compassion when they are suffering? That doesn't seem healthy either. I think this is the fundamental divide within the fandom: a lot of people view Rey and Kylo's relationship through the framing of abuse, while others view it as two lonely people connecting. And they both have reasons from the films they can cite to defend their perspectives.

I love this video and couldn't agree more. I think it would be cool to do a video where you identify key examples of compassion throughout the Skywalker Saga that changed the galaxy. One example could be Owen and Beru Lars adopting Luke and raising him with love/compassion even though he wasn't a blood relative, Luke's father was a homicidal maniac, and taking him in was extremely dangerous. Luke having compassion on Vader is another obvious example. Then there are more minor things like Luke/Leia and the Ewoks, or Han deciding to stay with the Rebellion after the Battle of Yavin. I think you would do a good job with that. Keep up the good work!
It’s refreshing to see a positive SW UA-camr, so kudos to you. I enjoy the ST but I’m having a hard time finding it as a fit next to 1-6. I went through this for years with the PT until I started to appreciate the world building and macro story. I’m still not a huge fan of the Anakin story so I watch the PT in a more macro context about the rise of Palpatine. As for the ST, there’s no real world building or macro story so Rey/Kylo have to be the bridge from 1-6 to 7-9. Videos like this help, but I still watch 7-9 and it feels detached from 1-6. For now.....
Hey man, that’s a totally valid observation, in some ways I feel the same way. I made a video about how the ST fits into the saga, not sure if you’ve seen it but if not here’s a link: ua-cam.com/video/6nPdboguhCU/v-deo.html let me know what you think!
@@thegoldman25 Interesting video as it really addressed my questions about the ST and it's narrative to 1-6. In fairness to the ST, the ending of ROTJ left Disney with no way to really continue the narrative of Anakin's arc. That ending shot of the OT heroes on Endor is/was perfect even way back in 1983 (Yes, I'm that old as I saw it in the theater as an 11 year old, LOL). The one thing that I love about the ST is when they explore balance through Rey/Kylo as that is something new and could be taken as a narrative arc from 1-9. Think back to Episode 1, and it is all about the Jedi Order and finding Anakin so the light side was dominating the Force. As we get to Episode 3, the tide is turning and the darkside begins to the dominate the Force as only Yoda/Obiwan were left. The OT sees the tide slowly turn as Luke/Lightside begin to dominate again by the end of Episode 6. The ST gives a new perspective with 2 Protagonists as the Light and Dark and their tug of war (literally shown in TLJ with the Lightsaber after Snoke is killed and with the ship that Chewy was supposedly on in TROS). When they stand in front of Palpatine at the end of Episode 9, that is a culmination of the Light/Dark finally coming together to find balance. I think only diehards like us are going to see this type of theme in the movies as most people are just watching for the adventure/fun/lightsabers (which is fine). I think if Lucas were involved, that exploration of the light/dark would have been more profound and more explored (and would have turned off alot of casual fans like the PT did with it's world building) and that is why it is dialed back in the ST. The 'balance' theme is there just enough for me and you to see it, and that is sort of the beauty of SW. Hope this makes sense?
@@thegoldman25 exactly . Star Wars is a modern myth and myths are meant to teach us how to live in the world. @@thegoldman25 or have you seen this one?: ua-cam.com/video/JMdrQUlnR1I/v-deo.html These complaints aren’t only applicable to the sequels so I don’t see where the hate is coming from 🤷🏾♂️
I always try my best to be kind & compassionate towards others. There are times when my anger gets the best of me. Now when it comes to Ben & Rey. You make a compelling argument and I can see that. However i wish Disney had more confidence to make Ben the main villain in the final chapter. Instead of bringing back Palpatine. That way Rey's compassion would have a bigger impact.
I totally agree with this video!!!! Rey and Ben have such a connection and it’s there connection that allows both to grow as characters. There relationship is key for this trilogy. I think Kylo/ Ben is one of the best characters ever. So ya I agree 😂. (ALSO RET DOSE NOT ALMOST KILL KYLO!!! KYLO WOULD HAVE KILLED REY IF IT WASNT LEIA.)
I wonder if Rey will tell her friends in the future about Ben Solo and she being a dyad in the Force with him. She has not told anyone except Leia about her time with Luke on Ahch-To, her Force connections with Kylo Ren and discovering his internal conflict, to her experience on the Supremacy and Snoke's death, and how it was Kylo Ren who had killed the former Supreme Leader to save her life and rule the galaxy. As far as Rey knows, the Resistance is so consumed by their righteous anger to recognize the internal conflict of Kylo Ren and accept Ben Solo's redemption. Rey is the closest to Finn, so having him discover that she lied to to them and has been "fraternizing with the enemy" would hurt the most. Poe, because of his responsibilities as a leader, will have more of harsh reaction. He will be angry at her for not using the connection to give the Resistance a tactical advantage.
I think the strongest trait Rey has is her magnanimous attitude. She can and will kick your @$$ if needed. But she's never vindictive and spiteful about it. I remember that line she gives to Palpy that goes 'I won't hate not even you '. Hatred, anger and resentment just leaves you angry and toxic. I always liked the Rey and Ben relationship. I found it interesting in TFA and TLJ, how for the most part he was always respectful and gentle with her. And I don't mean in a self serving ' I need to impress the pretty girl ' kind of way. I mean as if he genuinely respects her and wants to be with her hence the whole ' You're nothing-- but not to me.' Line in TLJ. Unfortunately due to his upset at seeing Luke and his own lack of tact, it came out the wrong way.
i know im gonna get hate but im prepared ben and rey are kinda like zuko and katara stay with me on this two people who are enemies find out they have something in common the boy betrays the girl the boy eventually is redeemed they fight a powerful enemy they save eachother from death btw i remember hearing somewhere that they were gonna fight palp together while that would of been cool to see i think rey calling to past jedi is more powerful especially since she was born a sith besides maul and his brother tried fighting him and it didn't end well
@@thegoldman25 as were many i personally wasn't but the parallels are there especially with katara and ben healing the opposite person zuko tired azula out like ben giving rey her confidence so i guess they did beat there enemy together
Wife tries to bring back her drunk husband to his trueself, then exhausted attacks him for being drunk, then feels his pain, heals him and leaves him. Suddenly once drunk husband came back to his true self. Together they divorced. If in the future Rey will have kid with Ben (Anakin born from Force, come on), the kid will be in the same situation my parents were. And I think it's actually great topic for another films, something new not explored yet.
I'm not a Reylo, but yeah, compassion is Rey's best trait, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver are phenomenal and J.J, Terrio and Rian delivered that message flawlessly to me. This is why I think Ben's death was so fitting. He spent the last minutes of his life saving someone the one he loves. This is selfless as hell and honestly, people don't appreciate enough this act. I don't think Ben was supposed to live. I think this was a character who shows us that we have to accept help from others before it's too late, which for me is an excellent message. Han offered help, then Rey and when he realized what all of that meant, there was one last thing to do. I really love it.
@@thegoldman25 I agree the details before episode 9 are super interesting if you’ve ever seen Vincent Vendemptions 3 part series on REYLO that he made before episode 9 there are TONS of clues and hints for REYLO it’s a 3 part 1 1/2 hour series Kylo Ren/ Ben Solo is THE BEST character in the whole trilogy
Mannn I wish kylo ren was alive. Note: I am not a reylo shipper but I would like to ship kylo ren and rey but since we are living in a world where Ben solo died now I would like to ship rey and finn in post tros. I know lots of reylos want Rey to go the world between worlds and then kylo ren would come back to life which NO I would not allow Disney to do that, she could choose what ever person she wants to date. It could be finn, Poe or maybe a new character. I won't be angry as long if Disney doesn't resurrect kylo ren this would not anger me but if ben solo came back as a force ghost then I would be fine
Hey liked this video :) Is it okay for you if I share it on Twitter? I agree with most on your takes especially that this relationship represents Lucas qoute the best. However I think the ciew on tros is a bit superficial. Rey is very out of character for me. First Ben was trying to help her in GIVING her the truth about her lineage. And he didnt only want to turn her but to kill the man who basically told him to murder Rey. But he resisted ans was loyal to Rey. That Rey was pissed and even stabbed an unarmed man grieving for his mother was very least compassionate thing she could have done especially As he gave her no real reason to be pissed and protected her.
Thank you so much for sharing! I disagree with you. I think the movie tried to make a point that Rey really has a dark side and when Kylo destroyed the way finder she was pissed
You really gonna stick your neck out for every aspect of the sequels that have been criticized? Next you’ll be explaining why the Poe and Holdo subplot in TLJ was actually good.
The Gold Man Rey being a Palpatine isn’t inherently a bad idea. There’s actually plenty of story potential there. Would Empire loyalists want Rey to take Palpatine’s place? Would she want to take Palpatine’s place as a means of ending the war?
There’s come cool aspects, it’s just from a narrative perspective I’m not a big fan. Now one day I may make a video explaining why I don’t like it, but no where near anytime soon. The sequel trilogy needs its defenders
The Gold Man Do you not like it because it apparently ruins the message that you don’t have to come from a family that’s strong in the Force to be strong in the Force yourself? Rey may have needed to hear that, but did the audience? Come on now. You can’t tell me that Jedi like Obi Wan, or Ashoka, or all the Jedi from the prequels and clone wars came from special bloodlines. Hell, Anakin literally came from nowhere, he was born without a father.
I don’t hate Rey Palpatine, I just prefer Rey nobody. I prefer the idea that THE Jedi to save the galaxy came from nothing and was just abandoned by her parents.
People often like the Sequels because they don't know or care about the EU & Prequel stories & how it contradicts what we know in the other material. I really don't like the Sequels, I detest how they ruined Luke, Han, the whole gang. So many people just gave up & allowed the First Order to kidnap children & make very massive armies & fleets, I don't like it
the sequels do nothing to contradict the prequels. If you think the chosen one was contradicted cuz palpatine was alive that is wrong. And if you're talking about the legends Eu then they're 100% irrelevant because they're in a different timeline

I loved reading this, and yes it does make sense. Thank you for taking the time to right this!
@@thegoldman25 Thanks! Keep it up the positive Star Wars videos as you're one of the few left out there! LOL
A voice of reason in the dark. (The dark being hardcore fans of old who want the Star Wars sequels retconned or even erased...) Thank you. :-)
I appreciate that, thanks for watching!
Really enjoying your videos TGM. Excellent work.
Thank you!
You, sir , would be a Jedi if you were in the SW universe ! Love someone actually applying what Star Wars is trying to teach into their life
Thank you! I feel that's the point of these movies, to apply what we learn in them to the real world
@@thegoldman25 exactly . Star Wars is a modern myth and myths are meant to teach us how to live in the world. Targeted mostly for kids cause it’s a coming of age story :) but most people can relate and a lot of people struggle with that transition from adolescence into adulthood, according to Joseph Campbell. So it’s like we need them.
Anyways , If you ever need some license free music for your videos , let me know :) . I’d love to do it just to do it .

I love Ben and Rey relationship, they could be a lovely family
I will always believe ben should have lived, but ive come to terms with his death
I believe they were crucial to bring forth the one true savior of the galaxy

Waiting for a certain account to show up
Another great video
Thank you so much!
This video is great - and it's really uplifting in today's world.
Thanks!
Great video
Thank you so much!
You look like Poe Dameron. Love your Star Wars videos.
Oscar Isaac is a handsome man, I take that as a compliment
I always try my best to be kind & compassionate towards others. There are times when my anger gets the best of me. Now when it comes to Ben & Rey. You make a compelling argument and I can see that. However i wish Disney had more confidence to make Ben the main villain in the final chapter. Instead of bringing back Palpatine. That way Rey's compassion would have a bigger impact.
That could work, but we will never know. thanks for watching!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video Michael!
He never should have died
Facts
I think she will tell them in the future, that’s why we need Rey’s story continued!
That’s anything thing about Rey that I love, thanks for the comment!
i know im gonna get hate but im prepared ben and rey are kinda like zuko and katara stay with me on this two people who are enemies find out they have something in common the boy betrays the girl the boy eventually is redeemed they fight a powerful enemy they save eachother from death btw i remember hearing somewhere that they were gonna fight palp together while that would of been cool to see i think rey calling to past jedi is more powerful especially since she was born a sith besides maul and his brother tried fighting him and it didn't end well
I was a lowkey zutara shipper lol
@@thegoldman25 as were many i personally wasn't but the parallels are there especially with katara and ben healing the opposite person zuko tired azula out like ben giving rey her confidence so i guess they did beat there enemy together
Wife tries to bring back her drunk husband to his trueself, then exhausted attacks him for being drunk, then feels his pain, heals him and leaves him. Suddenly once drunk husband came back to his true self. Together they divorced.
If in the future Rey will have kid with Ben (Anakin born from Force, come on), the kid will be in the same situation my parents were. And I think it's actually great topic for another films, something new not explored yet.
it's possible
They divorced?
I’m sorry but I don’t know what this means ):
I can respect that, I just wish we could see Ben make amends for everything he did wrong for a few years, but his death isn’t something I hate
@@thegoldman25 anakin would be proud for him.
My gosh Reylo is the BEST people actually don’t realize that Reylo is REY+ Ben SoLO NOT REY+ KyLO
their relationship is the best part of the sequels
@@thegoldman25 I agree the details before episode 9 are super interesting if you’ve ever seen Vincent Vendemptions 3 part series on REYLO that he made before episode 9 there are TONS of clues and hints for REYLO it’s a 3 part 1 1/2 hour series Kylo Ren/ Ben Solo is THE BEST character in the whole trilogy
This is some Yoda/Iroh level advice
I try my best!
#reylo
i hope you enjoyed
Reyloooooooo
i support that movement (mostly)
Mannn I wish kylo ren was alive. Note: I am not a reylo shipper but I would like to ship kylo ren and rey but since we are living in a world where Ben solo died now I would like to ship rey and finn in post tros. I know lots of reylos want Rey to go the world between worlds and then kylo ren would come back to life which NO I would not allow Disney to do that, she could choose what ever person she wants to date. It could be finn, Poe or maybe a new character. I won't be angry as long if Disney doesn't resurrect kylo ren this would not anger me but if ben solo came back as a force ghost then I would be fine
me too
Hey liked this video :)
Is it okay for you if I share it on Twitter?
I agree with most on your takes especially that this relationship represents Lucas qoute the best. However I think the ciew on tros is a bit superficial. Rey is very out of character for me. First Ben was trying to help her in GIVING her the truth about her lineage. And he didnt only want to turn her but to kill the man who basically told him to murder Rey. But he resisted ans was loyal to Rey. That Rey was pissed and even stabbed an unarmed man grieving for his mother was very least compassionate thing she could have done especially
As he gave her no real reason to be pissed and protected her.
Not everything, only the stuff I genuinely believe in (which is a lot). For the stuff I’m iffy on (like Rey being a Palpatine) we’ll see.
I prefer the idea that THE Jedi to save the galaxy came from nothing and was just abandoned by her parents.
yeah if ben didn't help rey palpatine would of controlled her

Okay, that's great and all, but...
HOW WAS SHE ABLE TO BEAT KYLO REN WITHOUT ANY TRAINING!!!!😭
Watch my video on it, ua-cam.com/video/DfO64HT1dfc/v-deo.html
@@thegoldman25 I know, I was kidding.
At 1:08 you make it look like they fell to the side to make whoopie
