@@callagan21 I use Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens Canon version with MC-11 adapter on my Sony 7RIII and I can not agree to what you say. I have no (more than with native sony lenses) problems focusing. Same in low light.
It's bigger than the Sony 35mm f1.8 but I wouldn't say it's super big. (The Sigma 35mm f1.2 is a beast though). I like to use my Sigma for everyday shooting. price/performance ratio is clearly on the side of the sigma lens. You get more quality, more light capabilities. Only drawback is that it's a bit bigger (but not as much that it's a big deal, actually feels more natural for me than the small sony lens). That's my opinion of course if you like as small as possible lenses the sony is the way to go.

I've been really interested in this lens and I'm so happy you mentioned it compared to the 24mm GM because I loved this lens! I'm thinking about renting them both and compare them for myself in my own practice. For me, it's mainly because of their weight and shallow depth of field. I have the 16-35 f4 which is great but doesn't provide me with that bokeh flexibility enough and low light magic.

Did you find the contrast a bit low between f1.8 and f2.5 on this lens? That's the biggest weakness on this lens. I have the Sony G 40mm f2.5, which is sharp and contrasty from wide open. It offers a punch that this 35 mm lacks. I have decided to keep the 40 instead of this 35.

    • @denyxrunner
      @denyxrunner 4 роки тому

Def get the 35 for any action type shots like snowboard. You will want that wide angle perspective compared to the 85 and get much more dramatic shots that will stand out. Even better, you can get a wide angle zoom like 16-35 or Tamron 17-28 that will allow you to get crazy wide shots similar to GoPro but with better image quality and color.

I also own the Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art lens still from my canon days and use it with the mc-11 adapter on my sony camera.
Personally I do see NO reason to switch. It would caust the same money as the sigma lens (especially as I already own it!) and wouldn't be an upgrade but more of a downgrade. Price/performance ratio clearly favors the Sigma Art lens. Only positive factor of the sony is the smaller size.
But I don't feel that the Sigma is "bulky". Of course if you compare it to the sony 1.8 it is. But if you wanna know what bulky is, try the sigma f1.2! Or the 85mm f1.4 sigma ^.^
To me it actually feels quite natural and the sony feels a little bit small and cheap-ish.
If you do favor weight and size over everything else of course the sony could be your choice to go. So if all the time when your on tour with your camera you feel like the sigma lens is just too much then maybe you should switch.
Otherwise there really is NO reason. You could rather get a new lens that you actually do need. That's like 700 Euro/Dollar/Potatoes you could invest additionally and get a nice GM lens.
(But then again these might be too bulky for your taste haha :-) ).

Yes, it´s amazing lens...I have it also...but use not too much because of the WEIGHT...the Zeiss 55 f1.8 is a best compact lens what I ever used. If the 35 f1.8 is the same...then worth it. (Maybe wait a year and will the price drop a bit. By the 24-105 f4 was so.)

I agree, the 1.4 just blows away the 35 1.8. It may not seem like such a big difference on paper, but anyone who actually shoots with both can vouch that the subject separation, dof, and rendering of the 1.4 is just superb.

You really should specify in the title that this 35mm is actually the FE, for full frame. Otherwise people will click on the video to get information about the other Sony 35mm. I did the same think , clicking for the 35mm E mount. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it. Stop using click baits.

    Is it better then Samyang 35/1.4? Samyang 35/1.4 650€, Sony 35/1.8 800€.

GangstaCat define better. AF, form factor are better with Sony. Samyang also goes to 1.4 which I would hardly shot it at. Also add in that you must buy the adapter for the samyang which will run you around $50.

I am selling my 55 cause the 35 in my opinion is on the same level. I do love the 55 but with this 35 I would force myself to pick it up.
