Your videos are getting so good!!!! The production value is getting insane.
@@hiawrj appreciate that homie! we working hard on these content! glad it shows!
Next time you drop by Barcelona beers are on me, great video!
24mm !!
If I can only bring one lens with me, the zoom 24-105mm f4 will have to be the one lens to pack in my bag. But I also like the 35mm to go with the zoom for most cases.
24mm has a steeper learning curve but once you master it, it is a real story teller. It presents your subject in relation with his/her environment. I solely shoot street with 24mm
The Luminar sky replacements were awesome. I already wanted the 24 and now I want it even more! Thanks
I'm using Sigma 16mm F1.4 (24 mm equiv) on my A6000. Really like this lens and thanks to it's sharpness I can crop pictures to get a little bit of that 35mm feel without losing much quality
Now, that’s what I wanted to see for a very long time! Luminar is great! I switched to prime lenses recently and not going back to zooms. Super35 just crops though. It doesn’t have an effect of a 35mm lens.
- again . . . a very nice, to-the-point review / comparison.
Much appreciated . . . and keep 'em coming.
loved this video Jason! you are super personable and this video was very entertaining as well as informative. The comparison with APSC was super helpful. Thank you!
I am sold right when you said that my wife will look slimmer in 24mm.
I'd said it would make them look TALLER! hahaha
BRUH lmao
Hahahhahahha
LOL
Hahahahahahah!
I have 24, 28, and 35mm lenses.
For travel, I prefer the 35mm.
For street, I prefer the 35mm.
For landscapes, I prefer the 28mm.
When I have enough light, I prefer a 24-70mm zoom.
When I need to shoot under low-light conditions, I prefer my 24mm f/2, 28mm f/2, and 35mm f/1.4 prime lenses.
Love my 24 GM. I even use it for portraits in street photography. Great vlog, Jason....
Great video! More informative than other ones i've seen, with practical examples.
thanks Paul!
Those colors in Japan! Great shots, Jason.
I loved Disney Sea, so nice to see it in your video!
Really loved this video. I learned a lot. Think it’s going to be the 24mm for me. Thanks!!!
With my couple of Batis lenses, 25 and 40, I cover 99% of all my photographic needs. Great video as always. 👍
Man, your videos are the best! Thanks!
After years of practicing photography I have found that 24 and 35mm are probably my most go to focal lengths, I have noticed that my shoots with clients tend to be more interactive since I have to get closer to my subjects for tighter shots. Definitely going to buy a 24mm GM Soon! That lens is so bad ass!
Both! 😁 love the sky replacements 👌🏽
Such great and classic focal lengths. The 35 has long been considered by many photographers as the true “normal” lens, not necessarily the 50. Decades of stunning Nat Geo images have been captured by photographers with a couple Leica bodies, a 21 and a 35 and a 90, all in a small bag. Primes are fantastic.
Exactly what I use - 21,35,85
@@powderedtoastman3093 exactly...i use 12 mm., 14 mm. , 16 mm. 20 mm, 24 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 70 mm. 85 mm, 105 mm., ...up to 1600 mm
Always answering my most burning questions. Super35 was in my brain. Thanks for that! :D Oh! 24mm for sure!
Dude! Incredible shots!
I like the look of both, for different reasons. I think for making films, primes are the way to go, but for travel, street, stuff like that, it's good to have a great zoom, because you never know where you're gonna be, and what's going to happen, and so, I carry my 18-105 around most of the time on my Sony a6400, but for my film work, I use my primes. The only prime I always carry with me along with my 18-105 is my Samyang 12mm f2, in order to be able to get really wide shots if I need to. Also, it's so light, it's easy to carry, and I never found it hard to simply switch out lenses. Great video, as always, I always enjoy watching, and get tons of great insight. Much appreciated.
As always great video! I really would love to upgrade to the 24mm 1.4 gm but I honestly love my 25mm f2 batis so much. So my set up right now is the 25mm f2 batis for landscape , Sony zeiss 55mm 1.8 for street , and 85mm f1.8 zeiss batis for portraits. Pretty much set wouldnt you say so
Photos are great! Thanks Jason
Hi Jason, great videos! Maybe you can do something similar but for which lenses are best for video.
Nice comparing video, i got the sony 35mm 1.8 lens and am really happy with it. Photos and videos. I love your ryu 35mm pic at parco shibuya is really nice !! Great job
I just can’t decide on the new 35gm or the 24gm. The struggle is real.
35gm is the one for me... just waiting for used copies LmAo
@@bozmundarts2614 I was able to get the 35 gm. Amazing lens.
Thanks for helping short people like me. I really appreciate it.
😂😂😂
@@JasonVong Hy Jason! What do you think? Do you need a 55mm prime if you already have a 16-35 gm and the 70-200gm?
Jason : "if you have a significant other who complains how your picture makes them look short"
Me: Story of my life
I love your energy Jason! I too am a prime lens user. I dislike the 24mm focal length- I dont like the distortion or the background pushed far away, so 35 1.8 all the way. If i truly need 24mm I'd use my 24-70 f4. Just my 2 cents!
Damnn, some beautiful shots in there!
Amazing composition!
What a nice holiday in Japan. I favor the 35mm lens. A good review. Awesome.
Wow dude, the sky replacement looks way better in your photos than the ones from other youtubers. The photos of your girl looks so damn good, too. Props bro!
Exactly the video that I am looking for right now. GM 24 f1.4 vs 35 f1.8. Thanks buddy.
hope it helped!
Thanks for the great video. I was wondering can you do a video about the GM 16-35mm F2.8 and how it compares to the ones you just reviewed.
I love prime lenses. Today’s zooms have definitely improved and almost equal in sharpness but you can’t beat those wide 1.4 aputures.
24MM all the way!!!!
Fell in love with it, i sold it to try a 35 properly, but I linger on that 24mm elongated style and edgy feel it gives!!
I already kind of know this focal range stuff, but had to watch cause your photos are always fantastic! Also, Vivian looked great! ...longer legs, lololol!
tanks man!
Love the 24mm focal length but I have the sigma and adapted it as I used to have canon. While traviling also take the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 ;). The 24 1.4 is awesome for landscapes/astro and most other things ;)
I waited 9 months to finally purchase the 24mm GM. I've used it once in the past 4 months. Honestly, the 16-35 f/2.8 is the only lens that I ever use. I'm sure some will prefer the fast primes, but the versatility of the 16-35, along with it's quality, just does it for me.
can't argue with you on that. 16-35GM is so good. Honestly, it could replace both of these lenses for the large majority of the photos I displayed in this video. Most of them aren't even at f/1.4
True that, it's all about personal style. I also got the 16-35 and use it as much as you your 24. However I'm rocking my 55 and 85mm. Just a huge fan of this dope prime lenses.
Very happy with my Sigma art 24-35mm f2 😍
Thanks! I like the photos from the 24mm.
For years my set up included 24, 50 and 105mm, so the natural choice would be the 24mm. That being said I did pick up the Batis 85mm and love it.
Thanks for the video.
I own and use a 24mm f/2 lens and a 35mm f/1.4 lens for my 35mm film SLR.
I also own and use a 16mm f/1.4 and a 23mm f/1.4 lens for my APS-C digital mirrorless.
I have used the 24mm and the 35mm for landscape, travel, and street.
For a one-lens/one-body situation, I have used both, but I prefer the 35 because the 24 is too wide for my taste as a stand-alone lens.
For landscape, travel, and street, I prefer to pair the 35mm with an 85mm or a 90mm.
For landscape, travel, and street, I prefer to pair the 24mm with a 45mm or a 50mm normal lens.
For landscapes, I have used both, but I would rather use a 28mm.
For travel, I would prefer to pair the 24 with a 45mm or a 50mm normal lens.
For travel, my personal preference is a 35mm flanked by 21mm and 90mm lenses.
For street, my personal preference is a 35mm f/2 or 35mm f/1.4 lens.
The one zoom that I own that has the 24 and 35mm focal lengths is the 20-35mm f/2.8.
The one APS-C zoom that I own that has the 16 and 23mm focal lengths is the 16-55mm f/2.8.
I use both zooms a back-up to my prime lenses.
Great content 💪🏽
It's always a joy to see your travel photography videos. For stills, I'd prefer either a Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 or a Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 VR as the travel lens for the versatility it offers.
I'm excited to travel to Japan this April with the Tamron 24mm I LOVE it
rip your trip
I am so so sorry
big yikes action
F
Never thought I would see so many toxic people here
24 mm for scenery and 50 mm for portraits
That luminar is sick bro!
The new 35 1.4 GM is awesome. My favorite focal lens.
Thanks for the comparisons Jason! I was choosing between the Sigma 16mm (24mm eq.) & Viltrox 23mm (~35mm eq.) for APS-C but I'll probably go for the Sigma after watching this. Was having a hard time making portrait shots work really good with the 16mm but after seeing your shots here, I'm convinced it's more of a user error from my side. Plus, I'll be cropping my shots most of the time for Instagram and my 24mm APS-C shots from my zoom lens really look zoomed in after cropping
same here!!! it’s been 3 weeks of me choosing between the 16mm and 23mm for aps-c!!! when the sigma released the new 23mm the choice became even more difficult. i am losing my mind
I really enjoy using the Tamron 35mm f2.8 on my A7ii,It beat my Zeiss hands down for getting in really close to still subjects.Focus hunting is not a problem that's all down to operator error.
I enjoyed your video and its nice to accept your open view on lenses tested.
You da man jason! Your reviews are one of the reasons why i just purchased a Sony A6400. Thanks again
glad you are liking the camera!!
Lol me too
Is it a good camera?
@@thelonesoldier4518 Its a great entry level into intermediate photography/Cinematography. I have done pretty good research and the A6400 is the best bang for the buck. I just got mine a week ago with the 16mm-50mm kit lens ($998) and purchased a 16mm Sigma F1.4 prime lens (amazing lens) to start out with. I plan on getting the Sigma 56MM next month for closer portrait shots. My plan is to get familiar on how to use this set up and then save up for a Sony Full Frame Camera such as the Alpha 7 III (hopefully the IV will be out by that time). I did get a Ronin SC gimbal for that cinematic steady shots since the A6400 and the lens do not have OIS but from what i researched Sony has poor OIS in the 6500/6600 series anyways, so I rather save the 500 bucks and get a gimbal. One good thing to get for sure is the dummy battery for the A6400 if you plan on shooting videos inside. Unlimited power supply and have not had any over heating issues so far. Save the battery for outside use. You can't go wrong with the A6400.

This is the video I needed! I've been eyeballing the Sigma 16mm for my a6000
Sigma 16mm is great!!
I agree with Daniel! The Sigma 16mm is amazing!
CoCo Inchibanya!!! One of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at 😅
Great video Jason! I’ve had the 24mm GM for a few months now and I absolutely love it. It’s almost the perfect travel photo/video lens - paired with an 85mm prime and you’re good to go 😁
hey me too! 24+85!
Interesting, now I'm using a 35 + 85, and thinking about joining the 24 + 85 club.
Amazing! I have an 85 and torn between the 24mm and 35mm for my Sony. That's why I'm here. Lol.
@@JasonVong 24, 85, 135
Have the 24 and its amazing
Great review and photos. Tokyo is awesome.
hard choice...! but with the samples you provided, i think I would pick the 24mm! thx for the video, great as always!
I picked the Samyang AF 24mm f1.8 FE, which is the equal or better than the Sony GM (it's just as sharp but it has less CA, better flare resistance, it's about half the weight (230g) and it's 3 times cheaper than the Sony!)...And for travel, you can't get a better 35mm lens than the Samyang AF 35mm f2.8 FE (officially the lightest AF lens in the world at only 84g (without caps)...A double aspherical element wonder. I fitted a Dixons lens hood on it that weighs 16g, making it exactly 100g with the hood fitted but without the caps.
Nice video as usual! I allways have problems to decide which prime to use, so therefore I pick the lightweight but older 28/2 on a Sony 7C, or if on a longer trip Tamron 20-40. I also use Luminar 4 and I think the possibility to change the sky is great. Perhaps not on some sort of documentary photos but all the rest, if needed.
I have the 24mm f1.8 S for the Nikon Z6 and it is honestly the best combination ever. Just as good if not better than my former combo: the Sony A6400 and the Sigma 16mm. I have tried 35mm but I could never get into it.
The Sony FE 28mm f/2 is the real sleeper in the lineup @ $400-$450 new
I bought two times,Until 16-35 2.8 in my hand then sold again but still missing
SwitchRich worst advice ever lmao
@SwitchRich Don't worry. His lens is on wide open all the time...
Out of curiosity: im looking at getting a prime for my Sony. I currently have the 24-105 f4 but want to shoot low light. Is the f2 good in low light?
Great video as always, some thoughts: Any reason why theres no mention of the samyang/rokinon 24mm/35mm alternatives? They are only 2.8 lenses but price and form factor is great. Both these lenses are quite small and one thing thats great for travel is the light weight. Apart from that I think 24mm is just not great for any sort of potrait, the focal length really deforms the facial features. The price and size of that 24mm gmaster is almost as much as the Sony FE 16-35mm f4, insane! Looking forward to the tamron releases.
Really nice comparison. I went from M4/3 17mm and 45mm to Sony FF, really loving the 85mm but can't decide whether to go 24mm or 35mm for second lens.
What did you end up with?
Thanks 4 your thoughts. Its difficult for me and i can not decide between both focallength.
I'll choose 24mm. Because in the Sony's Fullframe cameras they have a function to use a FE Lens like a APS-C Lens.
It means when I use a FE 24mm Lens with that function, then I'll get at 36mm. So I have 2 focal length in one Lens =))
That's why I will choose 24mm than 35mm.
24mm ❤️ like an extra wide view that you can tell its perfect for wide wide... shot... 😊
I was working in Japan earlier this year and the 24GM almost never left my camera. I've had the lens since it came out, and it can do just about everything I need. Having said that, I still got a copy of the Sigma 35mm/1.2 because I do a lot of concert photography and I need the extra focal length when I'm up close.
Those are some great shots you got here, man. I wish Shibuya Scramble was available when I was there.
Do you shoot f/1.2 for concerts? How's the focusing? I bet if the focus was nailed, the photos would look dope as hell!
@@JasonVong I've used the 1.2 on my Rii and RIV and obviously the focusing is way better on the IV, but the II isn't that far behind in ample lighting. I do shoot wide open a lot with the 1.2 in concerts if I've got a subject I want to be in focus, but if I want to get more than one person in the shot then I'll stop down to 2.8 if I have to. Yes, it's a big lens, but you can't argue with the results. I think it's the best 35mm I've ever used on these Sony bodies.
The 24GM still performs great for concerts, though. I shot a small hardcore show in Shibuya at a tiny club so I didn't really need anything more than my 24GM and the crop mode for semi-close up shots from my spot in front of the stage.
hi jason, I would like to ask if you would do a video on the Sony A7R with some of the latest lenses? will it be possible? like with the 85mm f1.8?
I think if I were traveling, I would take the 24-70 gm master 2.8. If I were not traveling and I thought I’d be inside in a darkly lit area a lot, I would use the 24mm 1.4 or if I were doing astral photography. I feel like I’m losing too much with the 35mm, especially, as you mention, the ability to use the crop sensor on the A7r4
Jason, I maybe going to Japan in late March. I’m looking @ both lenses. Would you buy in the US, or in Japan? Thanks
Beautiful pictures. Tastefull video!
Wow, really amazing pictures! especially 3:06, 3:11 and 3:17
🤩🤩🤩
Appreciate that! thank you!
I just picked up the Minolta 24mm f2.8 for SUPER cheap, and it's awesome!
Congrats!!
24-70 is the solution, thank you
thanks buddy u sure helped alot
I like both focal lengths but I think if you’re stuck with one focal length the 35mm is your most versatile. 24mm is a little wide.
Wow I would love to have the 24mm lens!
Thank You!
Bro I’m also 24 gm user 😄 I bought it after see Ur first 24 gm video last year when it is out !
glad it's still working out great for ya!
I have the 24mm and LOVE it!!! It is an incredible lens!!! I recently visited family and took two lenses, the 24 being one. I did a family photo shoot with it..worked out awesome! I purchased it for mostly ASTROphotograpy but have discovered its use goes beyond that..I pair it with the SonyA7lll which is a great match..Thanks,Jason..your videos and your work are awesome!!!
awesome!! glad to hear it!
24 and 55 is the best lest for traveling (at least for me) well u can have 35 by using apsc format on
I have been using 28mm prime for some time but it is limiting. Especially for landscape where you cannot zoom with your feet. These days, I prefer to go with 24-105G or 24-70GM for travel landscape!
What lens you recommend for travel sony s7r3 i was thinking 24mm
Hi !
Beautiful review
I've always seen your videos and if I can ask you a question
I am undecided between the 35mm 1.8 from Sony and the Sigma 1.2 I'd like to know your advice
Thanks
35 1.2 is way too massive. I would prefer the 1.8 more
I have the sigma 14-24 lens which is fantastic. But it’s huge and heavy I only plan to use it for traveling and landscapes. I really like the 24 GM and it will be great for street photography and night photography. But I am not sure if it’s worth it to get a new lens just for the two extra stops of light. Any suggestions? :)
Jason you should do a review of the new Tamron 24mm and 35mm.
I love the 24 especially when it comes to Astrophotography. I don’t own the 35 but I do own the 85 f/1.8. Which I sometimes use for landscaping by stitching several photos into a pano.
85mm wide photography...? HACKS. 😂😂😂 jk thats dope, i haven't tried that before!
Jason Vong You should give it a go with your 35mm or 85 (both in portrait orientation). I did it all the time when I lived in Alaska. Since I only own 3 different lenses 24, 85 and 100-400.
Great video Jason. I personally went with a used Zeiss Batis 25mm which I bought for less than half the price of a brand new Sony 24mm 1.4.
Do you recomnend it for travel im just looking fir one lens
NoCrop! I bought a full frame (A7iii)...for full frame! Had the GM 24mm but I returned it because it was too wide at times. Took that money and bought a Tamron 28-75mm and a sigma 35mm f1.4 Art (firmware .02 fixed the AF) and couldn’t be happier 😎
You have the APSC Mode if you want a 35mm. But you can't have a 24mm with a 35mm...
Mathias Fourmand 24mm just seemed too wide for what I shoot so I just don’t have a need for 24mm... other might
I have both. When i have a 35mm i want 24mm and when i have a 24mm i want a 35 😂
Mathias Fourmand that’s the move bro! Gotta love the A7iii 💯
@3.08 to @3.20
Where is that!
That looks beautiful, i am visiting Japan this Summer and need to see that!
24mm is better because you can crop to 35mm FOV without much distortion
very interesting comparison. for depth of field, do we see much difference between 1.4 and 1.8 ? are both good for fast eye detection and vieo AF ?
what about sigma art DN ? i have a sigma 24, 35, 85 F/1.4 art on my d750 and they are amazing at 700-900 euros.
that 24gm puts smile to my face like no other. best investment made since i started photography. theres just something special about the 24mm FL even on APSC (though with crop the FL becomes shorter), my first experience like this was with the zeiss 24mm for APSC. then there was the 35mm on the RX1. Now this 24mm. I'm definitely biased towards wide it appears lol.
Nice video brother 💖🇰🇭
Just picked up the 24 1.4 and it looks great but the aperture mechanism seems excessively noisy when moving from 1.4-1.8 or so (or if I'm in AF-S above f/2.8 since it opens up for focus). I measured it around 48 dB on my phone. I'm curious if you've noticed anything like that on your copy.
Thanks!
Hi Jason what will be the best lens for my A6600 for travel, landscape and scenery photography? Pls and thank you!
Great , informative video Jason. I came to the same conclusions and went with the 24 GM- not disappointed, at all! It is a fantastic lens as you have demonstrated. I still need wider so, I think I will be covered with the Tamron 17-28f2.8 ( on its way!), the 24GM and I also own the Zony 35 f2.8 . I am wondering whether there would be a lot to be gained from replacing the latter with the new 35f1,8 or should I save my cash for something else?
if you use the 35mm a lot and felt you need the wider aperture, switch them out! otherwise, keep it!
@@JasonVong Thanks Jason, my thoughts exactly!
It still comes down to using your feet. With a 24mm lens, I can always take a few steps forward to get a little closer/tighter. However, with a 35mm lens...I can't always take a few steps back, sometimes. I'm using this to justify purchasing the 24/1.4, of course. Do want.
I`m not sure if I can agree on that with you. There are many many situations when you cannot step forward to get closer especially when doing landscape/cityscape photography eg. you are at the edge of a cliff / bridge / building / fence etc.
@@ezustnyar Depends on what the bulk of your photography is centered around, then. For the work *I* do, the 24mm is always handy and useable. A 35mm lens is in an awkward zone between the 24 and a 50mm, for me. Cheers.
