California wants all gas vehicles off their road by the 2030. All I have to say is good luck. They can’t even make enough power to keep the lights on during the summer without rolling blackouts. They buy a big portion of the electricity from the Texas electric grid. Therefore they definitely won’t be able to support several million EV’s on the road or in the garage running on 2 or 3 phase chargers

@@garosama4517 There are a lot more moving parts in a piston engine compared to an electric motor which usually means it will be less time before something breaks.
Unless of course you mean that it'll be easier to repair because you won't be limited by Tesla's awful approach to repairability
@@ExclamationMarx batteries can wear out too you know. a car becomes useless when it can only do 40 miles. A gas tank won't just shrink over time unlike the battery capacity.
@@roadsidegarage69 Tesla's batteries tend to last quite a while. There's a Model S with a million miles on it. While it is on its third battery, that means each battery has lasted over 300,000 miles on average

This is not some UA-cam hack job. It is very much a well engineered and thought out vehicle. Not only is the drive line incredible it is absolutely amazing how much of the Tesla electronics you were able to keep working. Congratulations on a unique and well done build. Any plans on getting the HVAC working? Vintage air make a very compact heat/AC unit for custom applications.

well engineered and thought out for the most part, no A/C makes it a hack job - which is a complement!
@@taylorc2542 and making it play like a clunky ukulele with half the features and 1/3rd the functionality. Marveling over 12v battery-powered devices still working on 12v isnt a stretch - its basic engineering.
People don't realize Rich created this car to prove a point and the cool factor being first v8 Tesla. You cannot really get parts for it and in the used car market most 2nd owners fix their own cars. If they don't fix this issue of getting parts or allowing people to have tools to figure out what's wrong with the Tesla there is going to be a lot of Tesla cheap in the junk yards. Yeah they may go for a lot cause of the batteries but a time will come when millions of Tesla start hitting the junkyards.
This is what I've been telling people: Teslas are fine 1st cars. They're ok 2nd cars. But if you're the 3rd owner? Nope! These cars won't have long road life at all. And with Tesla's raging anti Right2Repair stance, they deserve to be the MySpace of EVs.

Oh boy, you've been ratted out! Something or probably a lot of things happened and are happening to that mcu, the service center hasn't gotten their cut. The data being collected by Tesla is now infucted by LS anomalies so all the software has to be retro-ed to GM standards. Turns yourselves in before it's too late!

@@RolandKoller90 Maybe not LS swapping, but other IC swapping. Why did Rich do this swap? He said himself that it was because Tesla wouldn't sell him parts to repair this car. It's happened to him with other Tesla builds as well. Did you miss that part of the video?
@@pete540Z Rich did this to make a point, and to make something cool that gets attention, but this was certainly not the rational way to revive a flooded Tesla. This build took way too much time, effort, and money than it's worth putting into a flooded Tesla. But as a fun project that expands his business (and which is novel and entertaining, as well as triggering to Tesla fanboys), it was a fantastic idea. But I wouldn't expect many others to try this with Teslas, especially now that it's been done.
The tranny tunnel is the main hassle. I can see it being done in simpler, less attractive ways. The wire harness from a donor car, no computers, model 3 type of door handles. It's just re-invinting the wheel.
@@s.flanders - understood. I'm torn about how I want the reveal to Tesla Corp to go. On one hand, I think they are idiots for not selling parts to people and hope they are pissed. I'm also someone who thinks the gov shoving EVs down our throats without dealing with the obvious logistical problems with trying to go All or Most EV in the near future is just plain stupid. But I hope they like it and change their policy on not selling parts to consumers.

That's damn impressive to make those kind of modifications to any car. And have it run, and run well at the end of it. Ultimately it's Tesla's problem if they want to be weird with the supercharger stations. Electric cars and supercharger networks are being commoditized quickly, Tesla could be Standard Oil, or they could be Myspace, depending on their choices to market supercharging. Awesome series Rich, and crew. Always appreciate your humor and knowledge and energy.
