    I used to make a living on Etsy... but now I'm 50% down in my store traffic.. and am very afraid of having to get a job or move into my parent's basement. Lots of sweat shops from China and India are crushing me now and they even change their VPN's to look like they are US based... Some even set up a middleman in the US, to skirt localization. I hope I can survive this "cycle". I actually think Etsy wants these huge drop shipping-manufacturing companies because they make money from all their sales... but eventually it will hurt Etsy's reputation and ours too. If all us makers and artists have to leave... then Etsy will just look like every other retailer... that has to hurt Etsy's bottom line eventually.

      Hang in there, creator! Your unique touch and genuine craft will always stand out. ✨ It's a tough phase, but consider adapting your strategy, maybe highlight the handmade aspect more. Community support is key! Let's hope Etsy realizes the value of its original artisans.

    I believe that many store front businesses are down too. I have a high percentage of retired folks. Many of them are woried about their financial future, there is a threat of a government shut down every 3 months. Then there is only a temporary fix at the last minute.

    Yes, my sales are down, but I have legitimate handmade products, and I will keep plugging away to ride this out. Fortunately, I am "retired," so I have an income stream and can afford to keep my shop going on lower sales.

    As an ex Etsy lover and frequent buyer (never a seller), I also noticed a decline in the quality of customer care. I guess it's a direct consequence of a bad filter for who is allowed to keep selling. What Mei says is 100% true, I just decided not to shop on Etsy anymore, which is extremely sad.

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  6 місяців тому +1

      It's disheartening when customer care falls short. Let's hope Etsy reevaluates and brings back the magic that made it special.

      I prefer going to Etsy instead of Amazon, to support other crafters, but last time I had the same experience. I paid full price for an item that included a customization, but I was told afterwards very nonchalant that they had an issue with a machine and so they won’t do the customization. This was for the holidays, so I didn’t want to delay the order by canceling or otherwise, but it left me with such a bad taste that I don’t think I’ll ever shop the same way in Etsy.

    • @giuliamelchiorre6190
      @giuliamelchiorre6190 6 місяців тому

      @@dumbphonemom same thing here! But I requested a refund because it really felt like a scam. I tried another shop and guess what? The seller marked my order as shipped, but a week later, after my enquiry about the delay, he found my order in his office as it had never been sent. He apologised but offered no discount, and said he would send it the following day (it was already too late for my party anyway, but what about offering to ship the same day, as it was early morning...?) I refused that too and gave up!

    I’ve had my online shop - my own website since February and I’ve only had two sales. I get tons of traffic, but no sales. However, I have my handmade bracelets in four brick and mortar shops and they sell very well - so I’m just bewildered on what’s the issue with online. And I did just open a shop on Michael’s - Maker place - but it’s dead there as well. Online sales are frustrating.

      @CreativeHiveCo  6 місяців тому

      Oh no, that sounds super frustrating! 😩 Have you tried tweaking your website layout or running any promotions to attract more attention? Hang in there, I'm sure your creations are amazing and deserve all the love! 💖

      Yes, I ran a lot of promotions/sales especially during the holidays - I even had a buy two get one free and free gift wrapping - but again - my shop sales are very high. I was in one of the shops a week ago and a woman was purchasing one of my products as I was talking with the shop owner 😊 - I also have an instagram and facebook shop - but it’s crickets. Not sure what else to do for online. I also offer After pay- any thoughts?

      @@divinemercy439 I wonder if there's some to update with the product photography or maybe include videos of the bracelets on actual wrists? There's something folks are seeing IRL that isn't translating online very well...

    There is a big dichotomy of perspectives going on when it comes to retail. I literally watched a youtube before this about people spending huge amounts because they have a now or never mindset. That things are only going to get worse so spend it now. Yet most every small shop owner I talk to or follow say things are waaaayyy down. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ as for Etsy they answer to shareholders. They will need to make up as much lost revenue as possible. We know the default… stick it to sellers.

    I was up 150% this year… I would ask Etsy sellers if they innovated their shop this year or if their shopped looked exactly as it did last year and expected the same result. There are always ebbs and flows in business, the economy, trends and their target audience.
    Etsy is a breeding ground for competition as well. You can’t stay stagnant. It’s exhausting. I don’t want to be on the platform forever and will just let it fizzle when competition starts nipping my ankles. Sad, but true.
