  • WHO IS A MONTFORD POINT MARINE? They are the first African-Americans to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps after President Franklin Roosevelt issues an Executive Order establishing the Fair Employment Practices Commission in June 1941. The recruits trained at Camp Montford Point in Jacksonville, NC from August 26, 1942 until the camp was decommissioned on September 9, 1949. Colin Heaton interviews book author LtCol David B. Brown, USMC (Ret.) www.davidbrownbooks.net/ Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

I've had the privilege of meeting both a Marine Nam vet whose Father was a Montford Marine and then a few years later an actual Montford Marine vet. He was surprised I actually was aware of their service. Both outstanding men!
This was in the Flint Michigan area. The Nam Vet served in I Corps as did I.

Excellent stuff as always, this is one of the reasons why researching about history schools don't teach is important.

My stepdad was a Marine, he was in the Korean War. He told me many stories of boot camp but never about the war. He passed away 2 years ago and I miss him.😞

I remember when I went through Parris Island how the Marine Corps dealt with race, "There is no black or white or any other color Marines other than GREEN - There are dark green and light green Marines" - Marine training is all about being professionals, period, we're all brothers - Semper Fi

Super informative ! Although next time you have this guest on, tell him to center his head onto the screen, as we only see 1/2 his face through most of the interview.

"Racial Inequality will never go away."
You know, it is an odd position being Generation X. Our elders, the Boomers, truly believe it when they say "racism still exists." On the other side, the younger ones...the Millenials and the Zoomers...they hae all convinced themselves of the same thing. But here we, Generation X, sit in the middle wondering what in the hall all of you are talking about.
Our generation killed racism. Hell, I hae been married to a blacl woman for 21 years and have full grown, tan children. My generation, we never did and we still do not give a damn about race. The older people lived in a time when it mattered, and we get that. But the younger ones...hell they had to revive racism and make it cool again.
To Generation X...we think you are ALL nuts when it comes to this.
