the magic of the marathon, but still didn't understood why the password ?
He fucked up.
He went to Ridley's route, so they allowed him to enter a password in order to make the race interesting.
The password made sure kraid would give the best pattern
Does anyone know why the two screens look different? I'm guessing different hardware, but what hardware?
Different classic NES consoles can have slightly different palettes. On top of that CHX42's screen is over-saturated, maybe from the capture hardware being used or from misconfigured gamma correction. Tecate's screen is more like what this game generally looks like on original hardware.
From the reset screen of CHX i think he is using an upscaler of some kind

4:11 "Tecate has chosen to enter a password so he can start back at Kraid's lair." What? Can someone please explain this to me? How is entering a password to skip the first ~2 minutes of the run something you're allowed to do?
Because it's just for fun and charity
@@justdave9610 in the NES metroid a death takes you back to where the password would put you (which is always the last elevator you took) the method of 'saving' in Metroid is to actually get this password by dying or accessing it via the P2 controller in the pause menu. Since these passwords are largely always the same it's treated the same as dying in a modern game and just reloading from the checkpoint
