Did you make it in? I want to do the same thing (Comp Sci) but I keep getting the run-around about them not accepting Canadians... Do you have any tips/strategies? Thanks!
Hola! Thank you so much for this video, right now I am in the transcription process with WGU have been a little difficult for me, I am from Colombia so I had to pay for the translation and the transcription, and now I am waiting for the approval.
Oh! That's good to know you are an international student as well. Does that mean WGU has opened up enrollment to all applicants and not just North Americans? The transcript process was stressful, I totally get that. I hope the rest of the admission process goes smoothly for you
Hey Manuela, how's your admission process going? I'm Brazilian and I too hope to enroll in WGU soon. My original plan was to go to my aunt's house in Colorado and do my degree(as fast as possible) there, but if I could do it from here in Brazil, it would be perfect! Seeing that you're from Colombia and in the middle of your transcription process, that gives me hope. Good luck and I hope all goes well in your process!
@@thinkgrowhealthy2137 I'm really not sure about translation sorry. Mine were in English. But you have to get your transcripts reviewed for equivalency. The only thing I can tell you about that is I chose one of the first evaluation services I found on Google, which was Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) (ece.org). They do foreign credential evaluation reports, which you would pay for and have sent to schools you are applying to. I did it years ago, so I can't remember details about the process. But you can contact ECE for more detailed info on the service and process. Maybe they do translation of transcripts too (not sure).
Thanks Justin for the video. I was looking at taking a WGU Prg, but the transferability of Canadian to American Institutions was ,murky at best. Looking at the Evaluation process and going to see how that goes. I’m more optimistic after seeing your video. I’m dual citizen and always pondered about a US Degree. My gf is a MD and I was wanting to get her certified in Canada via the evaluation process. All your videos are nuclear informative! Keep up the great work.
Ugh sounds like alot of run around. I'm from America so the international hurdles i won't have to deal with but geesh...I interested in their masters in nursing programs..thanks for sharing your experience
They were offering $65 waiver on the application when I applied. As soon as I saw that, I applied. This was in September. As of now, October I still see that waiver going on.
Looking into my transcripts and I have one more hurdle. They are all in French! I wonder where I should get them translated. Asking the University now.
May I ask why you wanted to go to a US university or WGU specifically? It sounds like a headache applying. I do like the way WGU works on their terms however
It definitely was a headache but worth it 100%. There are no competency-based institutions in Canada like there is in the states (WGU, Capella, UMPI, etc.). It was worth it to the point that I did two programs at WGUs. To me, competency-based education is the way of the future. It works very well for self-directed learners like myself.
Do you know if UMPI or other universities accept international students? And if yes, do you think they are similar to WGU? I’m watching a lot of your video btw trying to enroll from Italy! Thanks
Justin, great info. I am also Canadian. Question regarding payment for international student. Can I not pay my tuition directly via the WGU portal? If I do go to my bank, what information will I need to give my Canadian bank to process my tuition?
Good for you for getting enrolled as a Canadian! I know some of us had a hard time getting registered from other countries. Before I started, I had to submit an international payment using my bank. I had to go into my bank and have the amount transferred directly from the bank to an organization that the institution works with. And I cant remember exactly the info you need, but I would call financial services and they will tell you. You can call the main WGU number and ask to be transferred to financial services to talk with one of their advisors :)
Hey Justin, I just contacted WGU and the enrolment counselor is telling me they don't take international students and never have unless they are military due to test centres - is that legit or has WGU just decided they don't need/want to work with international students?
I get this question a lot and I really don't have a strong answer unfortunately. I know they are pretty strict about not allowing international students applying these days. I believe it was different in the past. I don't know why it changed though. I was "rejected" at first but after me inquiring multiple times, someone in the chain of command said "yes" even though it wasn't allowed. It may have been good luck in my situation. I told the enrollment counsellors that I knew of people who completed WGU programs as an international student (I looked them up on LinkedIn) and I had a previous masters. I also mentioned that I lived in the same time zone as Utah. So I think they felt I was qualified enough with no time zone issues for mentor calls, and they caved on their policy for me. Again, maybe luck? 🤷♂
@@lifebyjustin I'll see what happens. What they say doesn't match their website or mission ("exams are proctored and can be done from home" "study while travelling the world") and I've made it clear that I'm happy to work with them and have flexibility to do so. Do they do the mentor calls at regular times or do they just call whenever? I also have a previous masters and said that I knew of other internationals who had completed also.
@@jessiedestro7671 That's good you spoke up. And I think it really depends on the mentor in my experience. My experience was bi weekly calls with the mentor and I could schedule them when I wanted. There were lots of times and days available with my mentor (mornings, afternoons and some evenings).
@@lifebyjustin Thanks Justin, that really helps to know that. I could understand for nursing or teaching not taking on internationals but for computer science which is mainly project and paper-based assessments and not a registered profession it really doesn't make sense to me that it can't be done when the whole point of the university is flexible online learning in ones own time. See if I get a reply given I've asked for my enquiry to be directed to a manager if the enrolment officer can't help.
