"ive been getting a lot better" as we see a 4 pawn opening in the background
RyewL Old habits die hard.
why is that bad? im a super chess noob
Pushing 4 pawns in a row means u have to defend 4 pawns with pieces, usually it's better to use pawns to defend other pawns which isn't possible with 4 pawns in a row, it's making the pawns weaker... but i think it's perfectly fine in this opening it's okay, because u can take the center, and break through with the pawns.
He does get dat W though.
Objectively yeah, the tsunami attack is bad but it's kiiiinda his flavor move.
It also weakens the king side after castling
That story in the beginning really resonated with me. I'm going through without a doubt the roughest time in my life right now but chess has been there to take my mind off of everything. I'm watching countless hours of lectures and have joined my local chess club. Thanks for introducing me to this great game hutch.
+Horshoe20 That's great to hear.
God bless you man.
Dang Hutch! When comparing you to how you played back before your lessons with the Grand Master to how you play now is completely remarkable. It's been great seeing you improve in a game you love to play. Definitely looking forward to more of this content :) Keep up the great work bud and good luck on the relationship!
soo glad to see you posting these videos again hutch! I found you through your chess videos a couple years ago and then they died off... keep it up man!
These videos did exactly what you said, they opened me up to the game. I watched you for so long just for video game content and would skip these all the time. I let UA-cam auto play into one once and I was hooked. So, Thanks Hutch! You gave me something else to occupy my time with!
i'm so soon at this video, i love your chess video's. I like to see you influence people who had never seen or thought about playing chess and bringing some sort of a taste of what chess is. good video! :)
been watching the vids for years and I still enjoy them very much!
What's up Hutch, been watching since the early Machinima days. Been through some dark times myself over the last 8 years and the things you've said and talked about in your videos have really helped me over the years. Seriously man. I remember when you first came back after leaving Machinima and you sent me a dm replying to something that I had said about some similar stuff I was going to at that time and it meant the world. Your channel is an escape for me and so many other people, keep it up man. Love the chess to btw, picked that up from this channel too lol
Caleb Gibson Papa hutch :') hahaha. I feel everything you're saying. I wish hutch had a meetup in LA at some point; it would be really cool to meet hutch and maybe even more so to meet other fans.
I grew up playing chess with my grandpa all the time. When he passed, I couldn't bring myself to play for nearly 5 years. You started uploading chess videos and I remembered how much fun I had and felt dumb for having wasted years avoiding something that brought me such joy. I'm now hovering around a 1900 ELO and I have you to thank you for it. Keep doing you.
Hey Hutch, I saw you playing and I downloaded chess.com`s app and I already played chess but I have gotten a lot better and I see it has improved my thinking in real world situations. My friends saw me playing and about 6 or 7 of us play each other often. keep doing your thang man!!!!!!
I'm happy you've discovered the beauty of chess. Karpov once said he felt sorry for people who weren't able to penetrate into the depth of the game and discover how beautiful the game is. Also the skills and principles learned in chess are applicable to life
After you played Qc2, I think your opponent could have played
1. ...Nxe4
2. Qxe4 Bxc3+
3. bxc3 Qxc3+
Winning the rook in the corner, with your king very precarious
I really like the outros like this!
The endgame really exploits Hutch's desire to never capture pieces even when its good for him.
Awesome. Been waiting for some more chess :)
Started getting into chess because of you. Always played but never really got into it. Love the chess vids.
Damn I remember watching you play chess when I was younger lol good memories
Really enjoyed this one
really glad you started playing chess again!
6:21 - Pretty sure in this position white cant afford to let that tension exist, maybe there are some tricks for black, but I believe your best move is taking the rook followed by Nc1 kicking black queen away.
Nice!!! :) Love you Hutchy boi
Nice talk in the beginning! 🤜🤛♚
Long time lurker Hutch, do another chess vid soon, please!
Keep making chess videos, Hutch!
Great game Hutch!
You should be happy, clever endgame
that last move by black though. XD
Recommend 3 years later. Thanks UA-cam!
YT knows what's up
Does anyone know the music for this video? That middle song is so good
These videos make me so happy (Hutch)
7:41 move queen b1? Gets you out of pin and covers the rook
Yeah he could have moved that queen so many times and even threatened taking knight in the process. 8:35 queen d1
my mother the chess queen
6:35 "shitty shitty bang bang" 😂😂😂
That end game was very hard to watch. Came out with a win though.
Fuck yeah, more chess!
Hutch!! Optic BigTymer is playing chess now, you guys should play each other! If not bring your chess videos back! They were great!
Yiss boi some chess
same reason i got into chess hutch!
How he can miss that free Bishop 😑
good game, well played :)
Hutch your smart af!
g5 was a sexy ass spot for the knight too.
We need MORE chess video's !!!!!
1:30 Nxe4, if he recaptures, the rook falls
Or something
Hutch, I liked those GM/IM videos a lot and hope you will do more of them. However in my opinion if you are to really improve and get better you will really need to improve your calculation/tactics skills. To do this you will need to train tactics a lot.. Looking at checks, captures, threats, tactical motifs in all positions..
Also understanding of basic positional rules -- to me he is still a 1200 positionally
RESPECT THE BISH
MAH BOI.
At 1:32, is there any defense for white if Nxe4 Qxe4 Bxc3+ bxc3 Qxc3+ Bd2 Qxa1+ ? Am I missing something??
1:27 You defended your pawn with Queen but still black could have gone for Nxe4, If Qxe4, then Bxc3 gaining material back with advantage..
2:00 if he took the pawn with the knight at c5 he would have prevented a push from that pawn and also get a free pawn as the knight was protected
He can't take with the knight because it would put him in check via the black queen, but I don't know why he doesn't take with the pawn instead...
When hutch plays Qc2 he misses that if Nxe and he recaptures then black can play BxNc3 and after the pawn recaptures the Queen can take the pawn forking the rook and the king
1:35 Doesnt black just have Nxe4 Qxe4 and Bxc3+? If Bd2 whites losing the bishop, and if bxc3 then Qxc3+ and the rook on a1 drops as well as the bishop on c1 is pinned and hanging.
Joe Dorben was thinking the same!
I want to play chess with hutch
Why would you trade dark-square bishops when your fixed pawns are on light squares? That situation is your advantage.
His bishop was better developed than Hutch's
He had to trade major pieces not bishops, for example @ 7:13 he could've have played Qb1. But it doesnt matter every move on that game was just a blunder anyway
@@BongelaMnguni in that game*
16:222 qc8 is killing
Did you get a new massage chair, Hutch?
where do i sign up to play you lol i want to beat you for a video
1:30 The other Guy could play Nxe4 cause when you would play Qxe4 the other Guy would play Bxc3 and would win a Pawn.
Ps.: Sry for my bad Englisch, I'm German. But I understand and like you're Vids!
Greetings from Germany! :)
KingHowiJr C: Grüße aus amerika
Hutch talking like he's a pro and blunders every move. The chat suggestions were always better moves and he dismissed them as if he's the expert. Unintentionally hilarious video!
At 9:40 Bb4+ would have been very strong, after some moves black would be up a piece
Bb4+, Kh1 Nf2+, Kg1 Nd1+, Kh1 Nxb2. The King does not want to go to f1 square because he would get forked by the knight and lose the queen.
Bd4+*. I was staring at the board forever trying to figure out wtf you were talking about lol. Good catch though.
just take the b5 pawn, god damnit
isnt Rxa1 at 6:30 completly winning for black?
1:25 Why didn't he play Nxe4 instead of b5?
I'm pretty impressed at myself that I haven't ever studied chess, have been playing around 4 years on chess.com and around the 1250 mark, only 150 lower than yourself! :D I am too lazy to study and prefer to learn by playing. Play me man would love it :D
Play "Little Nightmares", like Nanners suggested
would a chess.com rating correspond to the same caliber of player on lichess?
My lichess rating is higher than chess.com, however all online ratings are inflated compared to real FIDE ratings.
Rerun game.
3 грубейшие ошибки у противника!
Can you try to get a few games with Jerry from chessnetwork going, I'd like to see how well you do against him with the advice you've gotten from grandmasters
Aidan Walsh I'm sure jerry would destroy him, jerry is very precise
Well obviously he'd use some handicaps. They've played in the past like that, where Hutch has 10 mins and Jerry has 1, etc. There were some interesting games!
im not sure even with handicaps that hutch would stand a chance against jerry, i've watched a lot of both of them playing and jerry is an absolutely phenomenal player where as hutch is good but not near that level yet (and with good reason, a lot of rating between them)
I seem to remember that Jerry really struggled in the 10 minute vs 1 minute games.
probably, bullet is super tough, but even still, you have all the time to think about your next move while they think too, so you can brainstorm ideas during that time making it a bit easier
Love the videos. You are getting better but I think you need to follow Tal's advice a little closer. You'll win games faster and smoother.
1:21 7. Qc2?? Nxe4 -+
08:00 but he would've won 2 points right? :O:O:O:O
geeg'ed all over that guys face
What happened to the John Bartholomew videos?
nice im 1400's too ill add u
lets have a game!
man, you have to do sth about your one move blunders. they can easily ruin the entire game. btw are u going to play john urschel on chess.com?
Press like if Hutch got you to start playing chess
This video is another proof that someone needs a lot of time to be good at chess if that person starts by himself without any tutor or help. So , if anyone tells you that they've got a high rating on an on-line chess website and you don't see any sign of them studying or doing any hard work to get there, they are simply cheating. Please help to spot cheaters and make this game greater.
The average person definitely needs time. But GM or IM talented kids can get to 1800 blitz (chess.com) in 3yrs without much sweat or coaching.
cause most people play blitz and bullet. I think that 90% chess player only play fast chess online without playing any slow, OTB games. This is the reason why most people suck in chess.
I've been playing for 1½ months and i'm 1320 elo on classic (15+15). I make sure to take my time, analyze and calculate properly. I also look for a lot of advice and play tactics every day. That's how you learn chess. I don't think hutch playing rapid and blitz is really doing him any favors, he blunders a lot and doesn't see very obvious advantageous positions (like queen d1 8:35). He seems to be plagued by the "i can, so i will" mindset, instead of analyzing if it's really advantageous, he just goes with the first best thing he notices.
You want a game?
@9:00 why not Nc1?
Nice move! didn't see that one til ur comment
Because the Bishop was defended twice already with no way to attack a third time. That's also moving backward on top of committing basically every piece to defense which isn't how you win games.
No, the rook would've been trapped
False. Black takes with rook, hutch takes back with rook, black takes with bishop and hutch takes back with queen. Nothing is gained and his knight sucks
My mistake, completely overlooked that the bishop was there.
6:52 knight c1
(weeb name i know), but was wondering why the opponent set the pawn where they did at 1:41? looks like there is a few ways Hutch could take the piece with not much repercussion. Im not very good at chess at all, so was wondering if there is something blinding im missing?
sasuke2542 yeah hutch could've taken it for a small one pawn advantage. But hutchs pawn wouldn't really be doing much afterward
He wants to open Hutches queen side, because that's where all his pieces are heading. If you notice, black has 3 pieces on the queen just waiting to be released, and his black bishop is already pointing in that direction. Furthermore his most obvious idea is to exploit the pin of the knight on c3, by attacking it with the pawn he moved forward.
Thanks for the replies! Looks like i was looking to much into the small exchanges rather than the long game, thanks for the info, I appreciate it!
Why didn't he take your king on the 2nd before last play? I mean yall both would have just lost kings, game could've went longer.
10 years: 1400 rating. 😞
What an amazing achievement!
Pull Ups IKR!
Right after you almost blundered a piece the first time, you could play qb1 and win the rook maybe? New to chess and just trying to start some conversation in the chat
Edit @9:00 in the video
huch do you have Parkinsons? why does the cam shake soooo much!
14th like
I can't believe this guy has over 900k viewers. His fans must think he is cool. Watch Bartholomew dissect one of his games.
he makes watching fun, which is hard to do with chess.
he is not a chess player stupid dumb
That's why I won't view his videos. I'm looking for an accomplished player to learn by.
I'm so early but have no idea what to write!
10 years and you still play like a beginner. Why?
Maybe because he was just playing it without much intentions other than just having a laugh? Only recently he has started to get "lessons" from stronger players and has started to see this game completely differently. You can play chess for years without making much improvement, if you never stop to think for the deeper strategic options, opening variations and study stronger players games.
Chess is one weird game in a sense, that simply playing a lot doesn't guarantee that you get much better, unlike in almost any other game there is. In chess you have to play slower time control games and really think about why you are doing certain things, and then analyze the games afterwards to see where you made the mistakes and which moves were good. Otherwise you just keep making same mistakes over and over again, without ever really realizing what the mistake was.
I'm a beginner myself and I've seen a lot of people with thousands or even tens of thousands of games played, still stuck on a similar rating than I am. Usually these players play only blitz or bullet, which would explain that they have never really taken the time to improve their chess-thinking, but instead just keep moving pieces intuitionally. You hear pro players talk about intuition a lot, but to get the "correct" intuition you first have to study, memorize and think a lot. That's one of the reasons I really like chess and look further to improving my game step by step.
Don't be too harsh on Hutch, chess is a difficult game to improve at and only recently he has started taking the necessary steps that would improve his game in the long run.
Taneli You would have to actively resist learning about chess to still be 1200 after 10 years I’m afraid.
You sound so full of yourself, are you proud of your comment>??
I wasted 17 minutes of my life...
I'm pretty impressed at myself that I haven't ever studied chess, have been playing around 4 years on chess.com and around the 1250 mark, only 150 lower than yourself! :D I am too lazy to study and prefer to learn by playing. Play me man would love it :D
