      Pushing 4 pawns in a row means u have to defend 4 pawns with pieces, usually it's better to use pawns to defend other pawns which isn't possible with 4 pawns in a row, it's making the pawns weaker... but i think it's perfectly fine in this opening it's okay, because u can take the center, and break through with the pawns.

    What's up Hutch, been watching since the early Machinima days. Been through some dark times myself over the last 8 years and the things you've said and talked about in your videos have really helped me over the years. Seriously man. I remember when you first came back after leaving Machinima and you sent me a dm replying to something that I had said about some similar stuff I was going to at that time and it meant the world. Your channel is an escape for me and so many other people, keep it up man. Love the chess to btw, picked that up from this channel too lol

    I grew up playing chess with my grandpa all the time. When he passed, I couldn't bring myself to play for nearly 5 years. You started uploading chess videos and I remembered how much fun I had and felt dumb for having wasted years avoiding something that brought me such joy. I'm now hovering around a 1900 ELO and I have you to thank you for it. Keep doing you.

    At 9:40 Bb4+ would have been very strong, after some moves black would be up a piece

So , if anyone tells you that they've got a high rating on an on-line chess website and you don't see any sign of them studying or doing any hard work to get there, they are simply cheating. Please help to spot cheaters and make this game greater.

      I've been playing for 1½ months and i'm 1320 elo on classic (15+15). I make sure to take my time, analyze and calculate properly. I also look for a lot of advice and play tactics every day. That's how you learn chess. I don't think hutch playing rapid and blitz is really doing him any favors, he blunders a lot and doesn't see very obvious advantageous positions (like queen d1 8:35). He seems to be plagued by the "i can, so i will" mindset, instead of analyzing if it's really advantageous, he just goes with the first best thing he notices.

    • @peternielsen7911
      @peternielsen7911 7 років тому

      He wants to open Hutches queen side, because that's where all his pieces are heading. If you notice, black has 3 pieces on the queen just waiting to be released, and his black bishop is already pointing in that direction. Furthermore his most obvious idea is to exploit the pin of the knight on c3, by attacking it with the pawn he moved forward.

    10 years and you still play like a beginner. Why?

    • @TTArt
      @TTArt 6 років тому

      Maybe because he was just playing it without much intentions other than just having a laugh? Only recently he has started to get "lessons" from stronger players and has started to see this game completely differently. You can play chess for years without making much improvement, if you never stop to think for the deeper strategic options, opening variations and study stronger players games.
      Chess is one weird game in a sense, that simply playing a lot doesn't guarantee that you get much better, unlike in almost any other game there is. In chess you have to play slower time control games and really think about why you are doing certain things, and then analyze the games afterwards to see where you made the mistakes and which moves were good. Otherwise you just keep making same mistakes over and over again, without ever really realizing what the mistake was.
      I'm a beginner myself and I've seen a lot of people with thousands or even tens of thousands of games played, still stuck on a similar rating than I am. Usually these players play only blitz or bullet, which would explain that they have never really taken the time to improve their chess-thinking, but instead just keep moving pieces intuitionally. You hear pro players talk about intuition a lot, but to get the "correct" intuition you first have to study, memorize and think a lot. That's one of the reasons I really like chess and look further to improving my game step by step.
      Don't be too harsh on Hutch, chess is a difficult game to improve at and only recently he has started taking the necessary steps that would improve his game in the long run.

      Taneli You would have to actively resist learning about chess to still be 1200 after 10 years I’m afraid.

    I'm pretty impressed at myself that I haven't ever studied chess, have been playing around 4 years on chess.com and around the 1250 mark, only 150 lower than yourself! :D I am too lazy to study and prefer to learn by playing. Play me man would love it :D
