Our hearts never rest……..I have done that also, in the process I’ve ruined a few lives - of people I love..but by the grace of God..I-allowed Him to fill my heart up. You're so right, Matthew. I do what you suggested and He always listens.
I heard a powerful testimony about a near death experience, and the man said he learned from that experience that Jesus not only loves us, He really, really likes us.
That hit a cord for me. It's in time of these empty, lonely periods we need our best friend to just be with us and let Him console use with His power. He lets us just be ourselves, unconditionally.

Life is indeed messy
Have most recently experienced the Dark Night of the Soul. And the emptiness is real. In the book on pg. 41 is says, “Every day we encounter moments of decision. The better path is clear..... “ Problem: When I’m in this place, the better path is NOT clear to me. I typically don’t know/realize that I truly have options - whether it’s the better path or another. Typically I’m so far in, so deep, that I’m drowning. I can’t even think of how to get out of the woods and so I just start running. My goal is survival. And, at that point I have either found the right path by coincidence (God’s hand) or not and then I just have to deal with the consequences. My question: when you’re IN that Dark Night how do you get the consciousness to begin to consider what the right path is let alone choose it?
Sounds like you know what it looks like now, so try to recognize the patterns. Sometimes a one line journal at the end of each day can help. By writing one line about what you are feeling or experiencing helps you identify and become conscious
@@MatthewKellyAuthor Thank you. This is something that comes in cycles. When past trauma/childhood trauma was never addressed, as an adult sometimes that Dark Night comes out of nowhere like a brick chucked at your head. It’s always after the fact that I can look back and recognize the growth that happened as a result of that and God’s hand in that. I guess I feel guilty because I fail time and time again to, in the moment, be thankful for the Lord’s presence no matter how difficult the struggle. I found an old book of my husband’s from college, a collection of St. John of the Cross’ essays. The Dark Night is in there. I’m going to read that. Journaling is something I’m getting back to in this new year. Thank you for that suggestion.
