This was shot in St. Louis as part of the rehearsals for the concert movie "Hail Hail Rock & Roll". There were some tunes shot at the Cosmo Club in East St. Louis ( reopened just for the film ) that didn't make it into the movie. Hope that some day the outtakes will be released. One of them had Chuck doing a pantomime while the band vamped. It was great ... he was a total entertainer. Sure he could be irrassable at times, but he could also be gracious and understanding. It's not widely known, but for many years Chuck would travel to Jefferson City, Missouri, and play for the inmates at the Algoa medium security prison where he had done a stretch as a teenager. Long may Chuck Berry Rock, and long may Johnny Johnson Roll!
This s very cool ....Chuck Berry is the true King of Rock and Roll. Elvis would have never done this!! They need to make a movie about Chuck Berry so the kids will not forget him!!!

@@buckwild6759 It's kinda disappointing...I don't claim to be a great guitarist but I have to been playing Johnny B Goode since 1976, based on the original recording...got to be a bit boring so I have gradually embellished it. I have only just recently looked at Berry's live stuff and....WTF! I would be too ashamed to play if I was that bad. He always seems to have another guitarist playing the "signature" licks and relies on the pianist a lot. Clapton and Richards have to be thinking "this guy sucks but he's a legend so it'll be cool to be seen with him"
Chuck will always be the true King and Founder of Rock n Roll in my book.So sad to see him gone now.His music lives forever along with his legacy. We miss you Chuck!!
the way chuck licks his lips when clapton solos and the face of satisfaction when richard solos strangely makes me think that this is how gods react when their subjects give them sacrifices. Chucky berry is a true God. He accepts clapton and richards
This brings back memories from a teenager seeing Chuck Berry playing the Orange County Fair. I’m guessing it was around 1972 ? The tickets were a buck if I remember correctly, but the amazing thing was that all these country kids were to busy playing Carnival games. And he was a Legend playing a full two hours, doing all the hits, in front of approximately 100 people. I think it was 1975 when the Rolling Stones played Madison Square Garden for six nights, and it was with the Lotus Stage. I was able to get tickets for all six performances. It was the first time the Stones did Sympathy for the Devil since the whole thing at Altamont Speedway. I forget the order but Eric Clapton played lead for either the first or last night. Carlos Santana also played lead for either the first or last show. Billy Preston had a big hit at the time and performed it at each night. Thanks for a great jam !!!
Great memories that mark your time and place. My teenage years were the 60’s and I lived near Hollywood along with my two Brothers. We saw almost everyone from the Animals to the Zombies. Great memories.

Great combination ! I have an album when I was young called " Guitar boogie " it's a combination of Jimmy page , Eric Clapton , Jeff Beck . jamming session..and love it so much !
as I set turned on my pa system and hooked up my tablet, I prepared to perfect some new backing tracks I made. I turned on my twin reverb, tuned up the strat and jammed for a few hours to "Johnny b goode", "rock and roll music" and "roll over Beethoven". it was a normal practice to some great rock classics and I thought nothing of it. then when I got a text from a musically uneducated friend that read "someone called chuck berry has died u might know him idk" I ceased and started thinking of what I was doing earlier on that day... I like the thought and the idea that i was remembering him and paying tribute to him myself just before he died... the true father of rock and roll. RIP

Which year was this?
CB has pretty hot on the piano as well.
Only got to see him once: Brisbane, Queensland, in the early-ish 1970's.
Still have the "programme" .
mercy,, Huge Talent,,,having fun,, great show
This s very cool ....Chuck Berry is the true King of Rock and Roll. Elvis would have never done this!! They need to make a movie about Chuck Berry so the kids will not forget him!!!
This music makes me fell young lve got75
Is it me or Chuck actually look younger than Keith?
oh yea drugs
Keith is like Willy Nelson , there faces have worn out at least 3 bodies but keep ticking. It's either clean living or the music. Go figure. (grin)
drugs do that
Now you know black don't crack
Anyone looks younger than Keith
These guys are just having way too much fun I love rock and roll
Johnnie Johnson, master of the rock piano backup! Underappreciated, but solid Jackson!
Solidly stepping all over the guitar solos in the beginning
Obviously, you are unaware just how sloppy Chuck actually played!
So greatful for this great collaboration... thx Chuck & gang !
Chuck shows such joy in playing.
Never seen a more humble lot, each one a master in their own right, but the Master of em all kneels before them with excitement and enthusiasm - No-one showng any one up!!!
Rev Clive Pillay Very well put Rev. Pillay.
Horse crap...Berry doing what he always did...hiding behind those who can actually play.
@@AdaptivePhenixI agree Chuck Berry is overrated and the dude ain't humble
@@buckwild6759 It's kinda disappointing...I don't claim to be a great guitarist but I have to been playing Johnny B Goode since 1976, based on the original recording...got to be a bit boring so I have gradually embellished it. I have only just recently looked at Berry's live stuff and....WTF! I would be too ashamed to play if I was that bad. He always seems to have another guitarist playing the "signature" licks and relies on the pianist a lot.
Clapton and Richards have to be thinking "this guy sucks but he's a legend so it'll be cool to be seen with him"
This is cool. I don't want to cry anymore.
Thanks.
I shook hands with Chuck Berry, backstage before my band Hit The Roof! went on and opened with Johnny! Blessed
Oh well oh well I feel so good today, in 2021. Rock and Roll will NOT fade away.
All it does is evolve
NOT FADE AWAY....didn't someone named Mick, sing that song......???>?
@@petersack5074 ; Buddy Holly wrote Not Fade Away. Stones and many others covered it.
Music will never be like this again. This is awesome!
3 icons and great guitarist 🎸 jammin and making it sound simply amazing 🎉🎉. They are guitar royalty 👑
Chuck will always be the true King and Founder of Rock n Roll in my book.So sad to see him gone now.His music lives forever along with his legacy. We miss you Chuck!!
check out rosetta tharpe
You are so right !!!!
Three of the greatest guitar players to ever live
Get something right
So talented and I could listen to them all day. Love rock and roll.
Wow, impressive, all greats, looks like fun, THANKS FOR INVITING US ALONG...😏
the way chuck licks his lips when clapton solos and the face of satisfaction when richard solos strangely makes me think that this is how gods react when their subjects give them sacrifices. Chucky berry is a true God. He accepts clapton and richards
One of the reasons why life is worth living.
-What did you do today ?
-Ho, not much, I just saw Clapton, Keith Richards and Chuck Berry jammin'.
Clapton, Richards, Hendrix, Green, Page, Blackmore, Gallagher, Alvin Lee, even Gary Moore (RIP) - there was never any competition with Chuck - there was only the acknowledgement that - if CHUCK BERRY had not existed then Rock and Roll would have been stillborn......
Chuck! Chuck, it's Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this! xD
bollox pal, link wray,, Hubert sumlin,, ellmore james,, muddy waters,, pee wee crayton,, roy Buchannan, Lowell Fulsom, Lonnie mack,, t bone walker, Robert Johnson, bukka white, ,tommy Johnson, ,pat hare,, J B Lenior, Scotty Moore,, et al,, do your home work before you make sweeping statements,,
Indeed... Chuck Berry is the CREATOR of this unique guitar riff we call Rock & Roll! Oh...and that back beat, an unmistakable beat! ...you can't lose it!
Nancy L. McGill I so agree, Nancy! You know wot it IS!! The man is THE MAN!! I have MANY favourite Rockers from the 50's...hard to chose...however CHUCK has to be...NUMBER ONE!! I have to say, I love this video..! Got me Jumpin'!!!!!
wow! did not know this event occurred or that this footage existed. cheers for the upload. classic
been listening to bb king and clapton and now chuck berry and clapton. great way to spend sat nite
I've had a drink or two with Eric and Keith together. Good friendly and amusing company.Has anyone had a drink with Chuck, Eric and Keith the Holy Trinity of rock and roll? It must have been unbelievable to witness this session and I bet they socialised with the lucky audience afterwards.
Chuck Berry, the father of Rock n Roll, shows how its done, with Clapton, Richards, Johnston in accompany. Great shape for his age, the rocker rolls
Great combination ! I have an album when I was young called " Guitar boogie " it's a combination of Jimmy page , Eric Clapton , Jeff Beck
. jamming session..and love it so much !
as I set turned on my pa system and hooked up my tablet, I prepared to perfect some new backing tracks I made. RIP
I was thinking of him earlier today, wondering- did Chuck Berry pass away and I forgot about it?
Chuck was a born "Bandmaster" , he led and everyone else followed. 3 cheers for the smiling Drummer and piano man! Brilliant film
