Joe you are the best husband 😅 I followed this video step by step at the pool and I was able to swim butterfly in 60 minutes, for a note, I am a new swimmer, I learned freestyle and backstroke 2 months ago. You rock Joe, I love the simplicity 😅
This was such a wonderful breakdown!! Other videos give tips to improve butterfly, but yours is the only one that actually breaks down the steps and puts it all together. Thank you!!
Lovely teaching …as u indicated I have not learnt the Freestyle ,breast stroke and back stroke I will practice after a month or so.Thank u for the right input.
Your instruction is very clear and easy to understand. I just started adding Butterfly to my morning swim. I will go back to this a few times and some more. You are an excellent instructor. Thank you!
Thanks so much! at last a step by step method which is just what I was looking for! For me the difficult bit is the kick although I can swim the other three styles but here I'm not so sure if I'll manage 4 long strokes without breathing, Thanks again to both of you, new sub 😊
Thank you soo much for this video, I love the way you took your time step by step to teach your wife, I really did learn something and for that I will subscribe to your channel 🙏.
@@Swimtopian Not too bad. I loved following the steps. I wrote them down and had them by the pool so I knew what to do next. I was pretty bad at it, but that's to be expected for a beginner. Tell your wife she makes it look easy! Especially dolphin kicks on the side and on the back. Also, I had trouble getting my arms above the water during the recovery stroke. I'll get back in tomorrow and keep at it!
Haven't gotten into it yet but I can tell that this is gonna be such a big help. The place I go to has group lessons, but only got to attend a few basic ones before the schedule shifted to one I can't attend, and so many of the resources I find online go from zero to sixty without breaking it down (and if they do, it's to focus on things that aren't my problem). It seems like a great stroke for exercise and just to switch things up (only competent in front crawl and backstroke currently) so I'm excited for this to help me work through it.
Nice teaching session. Your wife is natural and mastered the dolphin kick pretty quick. The flippers help massively. Follow this video through with her progress once she is capable of going 15 to 20 meters without flippers. Cheers
Good guidance. I learned to swim freestyle when I reached 60 yrs old after a year plus lessons. I was very fearful of the water before that. Now I am in the pool every week. Started learning butterfly a couple of month ago .... still a lot of work to get in right and this vid is pretty helpful. Thanks Joe. That must be a Malaysian or Singapore accent, amiright?
11 o clock stance, straighten the back arms on revcoery, wriggle wriggle repeat. thanks this is easy to remember i will try this everyday the lake beach is open for this month of august. i am bad because i dont know the 3 basics too well but want to skip to butterfly
Great teaching! I always thought there are only 2 kicks and one arm stroke when swimming butterfly. I think your wife did 3 or 4 little kicks instead, right? Maybe I will try this too! Thanx for the video!😎
I never could swim breast stroke, other than by using a scissor kick. My feet will not turn out for the old frog kick or newer whip kick. I have been trying to learn to swim the fly again. It was far easier when I was young.... This is a good teaching method. I have seen some who teach a long glide when you throw your arms forward. That is easier for me, especially for learning to get that body wave action going.... I am not very flexible any more....
Her fly actually isn't bad at all, especially for just having learned it. When I try to perfect my strokes, I do something similar. I try to break the ideal stroke down into steps, and work on drills that work on each of those steps individually. After the drills, I do some variable speed to put it all together.
I am a beginner swimmer. I want to know if this stroke is more for competition. Is this a lifesaving stroke that can be used to save myself or others in an emergency?
Thank you very much for the videos. My kids learned backstroke and breast strokes through studying your videos. One question about this video: your wife did 2 kicks, then while she pulled, she did another few kicks perhaps involuntarily. Is that correct? In total, how many kicks should a swimmer do for each butterfly stroke?
Hi, glad that your kids are learning swimming. It should be 2 kicks with every butterfly stroke. Kick when hands enter the water and kick when hands exit the water
@@Swimtopian I would love if you could make more instructional videos, for example, on the dolphin kick. I would gladly watch all of them. You are really good at breaking a skill down and then teach them step by step
Just remember guys..humans have been swimming for thousands of years...the strokes eg Front Crawl Butterfly etc are a modern age invention...they are all complicated forms of water gymnastics that you don't need unless you're racing with sharks or something...so pick which ever kick and pull that you feel most comfortable with...all you need is to learn to float and then add propulsion anyway you feel comfortable...what the strokes rules and modern techniques do is make you go faster thats all...and I don't know about you but the entire swimming pool is like 50 metres lol so why would anyone want to finish that quickly and not just have fun gliding slowly 😂..
It's because some people just love to swim fast and maybe compete with others in a swim meet. Of course you have many others whom think like you that love to swim leisurely and doesn't care if the technique is good or not
This lesson was terrible. He spent no time showing her the required timing of the kicks! You will never master the butterfly if you don't know when to kick. She was literally pulling herself out of the water entirely by her arms when she should have been doing a kick at the same time which would help propel her out of the water. You should lean butterfly by first learning the one handed butterfly. This makes it much less tiring and you will learn the timing of the arms and kick in a much easier way
I think the one armed butterfly is a drill. These are drills too. BF is a complex stroke and breaking it down as he did is helpful for newbies like me who have trouble recognizing what they see.

Exactly
Best video on teaching Butterfly, love it! Thank you
Thank you so much for this video. I have seen enough demonstration of people who already know how to do it. Seeing someone learning is very nice.
Hope it helps
Very good mate. Really clear instructions and I am amazed at how you broke down each step and made this extremely difficult stroke easy to understand.
Thanks. Glad you find it useful
Step by step the way u teach shud be really praised❤️
Thanks a lot
As a new swimmer , this was very informative . Thank you 🙏🏾

This break down looks so logical and clear! Thank you so much! Can't wait to try the steps in the pool on Monday!
Let me how did it go

Glad it helped
I struggle with fly, great video, love the progression.
Glad it helps
What a beautiful pool!
Wow.that's amazing. A easy way to learn butterfly which is considered as the hardest stroke in swimming.👏
Cool...I figure out several mistakes of mine! Good job. Thank you!
Glad it helps

Nice Swimming and Nice Coaching
Nice
I am a beginner swimmer. I want to know if this stroke is more for competition. Is this a lifesaving stroke that can be used to save myself or others in an emergency?
It is a competitive stroke. Probably the most difficult stroke to learn out of the 4 strokes. Not for emergency use.
@@Swimtopian ok thank you.
jOE, CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT IS THE SIZE/LENGTH OF THE FINS THAT I SHOULD USE?
THANKS
How old are you? Are you a beginner swimmer?
awesome

How much do you charge for your swimming class?
cool! I still can't dolphin kick
i cant even get the breathing part right because the water gets into my nose and the time to take a breathe is so small its so frustrating
Try wearing a pair of fins doing this
I thought it's 2 kicks per cycle. Pull on first kick. Recovery entry on second kick.
Yes kick when your hands enter the water, kick when your hands out of the water
🌞👏👏💪💐😍
❤
Text book instruction you are offering
can you teach me
Nice systematic and simplified video...
Butterfly was much easier for me to learn than freestyle. No one size fits all.
You are right....
