Ducatis are sexy and great handling - when they work.
The rest of the time, they are Italy's revenge for losing WWII.
Ducati , bmw,Harleys, triumph, buell, indian,is for people who want to look cool and pretend to be riders and Honda,Suzuki,Kawasaki, and Yamaha are for people who ARE cool that DO ride and have absolutely NOTHING to prove lol

@Moser, I have a Monster (Ducati) since 2007, never let me down, but I agree with you, my favourite brand is Honda in every shape and form, I have one - never had any problems, IMO Honda is the best as far reliability is concerned .
I love the Monster, still no Honda is going to give you that sensation - when you accelerate a mean 2 cylinder bike.....
Canadian here: The Can-Am is only a motorcycle in the licensing sense, in reality it's a summer snowmobile.
exactly. and oh, it's not a motorcycle, sorry.
@@iamthebeatmaster in Ontario it actually requires a special M condition on your M license, meaning even the government only considers it a motorcycle in the most technical of senses.
Sorry.
@@ionceateapinecone the definition of a motorcycle is "a two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor and has no pedals." so no, it's not a motorcycle. sorry
In Alberta, you need a class 6(motorcycle) license to ride the can-am and the polaris slingshot.
Exactly
So wait. If Harley scored #1 on the least reliable bikes, and also #5 on the most reliable bikes, that means only 9 motorcycle manufacturers were part of this study.
Doesn't seem very comprehensive.

I love my Yamaha. In the last 2 years and 40,000 miles I've spent $7 on mechanical repairs not related to wear items like tires and brake pads. Just a leaking sealed front wheel bearing that was really easy to replace. I like that maintenance cost of ownership.

I wonder if miles are put into the result of these numbers. BMW riders do 40/50K miles in 4 years. A Ducati does about 10K in 4 years.
Good question. It's not gonna break if you're not gonna use it.
Bmw gives you a 3 year warranty and you can purchase an ext warranty before then runs out, so no worries. Personally I own a BMW S1000RR and no issues. I am also on the BMW forums and dont really hear of any issues. I take CR with a grain of salt.
Truth, tons of miles on BMW's and mostly good. They had a few problems I wish they owned up to Audi did the same injustice to owners. Honda used to be the best when Mr. Honda was around..
That one confused me too. Oilheads are some of the most reliable bikes you can find with 6 digit odometers being pretty common. I don't really follow their new bikes though. Are newer motorrad products more iffy?
@@mcross320 New bmws have so much technology that can easily have problems. That combined with the insane prices of bmw dealerships make bmws a very bad idea if you want something with low maintenance. That being said old bmws are insanely reliable and unkillable . I bought a bmw f 650 24 years old and it runs perfect . The reason I bought it is that my grand father had a bmw the bike is still here my grand father passed away. The motorcycle was running for close to 50 years before it was stored !
I had a guy ask me one time, "Woah... a Ducati! You must be rich!"
I told him, "Nope, owning a Ducati is not a sign of wealth, owning a Ducati is a sign of being poor."
😂
Lol
But a Ducati is still a sign that you used to be rich... and then you got a ducati.
Or just a sign u don't know bikes and bought the first one that said Ducati. They are plenty cheap used lol
Very humbling right there :)
Is there any coincidence that the most expensive bikes also make the most unreliable list ?
The same is true for automobiles. The business plan of luxury brands is not to sell you a high profit, quality vehicle, it's to sell you every three years with planned obsolescence.
Yes, high cost precision machines require higher maintenance.
They have lower tolerances in their build because they need a tight margins to operate efficiently.
Nope not at all
@@chomper1329 Nah..
Lower tolerances doesnt equal to tight margins.
In fact a cub, a ubiquitous motorcycle in south east asia, is one of the most abused motorcycles seen around. It is built to last.
Is it expensive? Probably no.
Peformance? Ofcourse it has.
Is it built to tight margins? Yes it does, how else can it work under so much abuse?
Loose tolerances? If its so loose, how else can it last?
Quote it!!! Yammie Noob 2019 - "it's kinda worth it to have your nuts cooked to have a bike that looks this pretty".
You won't even get your nuts cooked with a couple of simple mods to it. :)
lol the shade is realand you do gotta save those nuts.
I have had three Ducatis since 1998, never a mechanical or electrical issue. The new Multis are very comfortable and reliable. Had HD's and a CB750 from the 70's to 90's. The Honda, bullet proof. The HD's, my mechanic was my best friend.
I once read owning a Ducati is like having a stripper for a girlfriend. You pay but you get a big return.
In the early 90s, when I sold motorcycles part time. Yamaha’s,a guy ended up buying a Yamaha FZR750 R from me.He wanted something special .there were only 200 of those “R” “models released to the public .. while we were waiting for the service department to prep the machine, we got to talking. He said he almost bought the newest Ducati. To entice him to buy the Ducati, the dealer included The following perk statement. The dealer said he will do the first valve adjustment for just $3000...

Crazy! Who would've thought, BMW? Since their cars are soo dang reliable!
They are not that reliable actualy
@@timsvensson9874 i donth know about the newer Modells nur my 97 e39 was dead reliabel
I'd argue BMW cars are reliable from a running standpoint. Their parts last forever. But your electric mirrors? Seats? Aircon? Anything NOT vital to the running of the vehicle? Constantly broken.
Bmw and any other European brands are not reliable what so ever, they have performance, but isn't perfect for long
BMW cars tend to break all the time
Can Am is NOT a motorcycle.
If anything, it's a summer snowmobile that tries to look like a squid missile.
Honestly BMW surprised me. I know they aren't bulletproof. But least reliable "real" motorcycle. Wow.
What's interesting is, that here in Germany a lot of my friends ride beamers and honestly none, as far as I know, have broken down particularly often compared to other bikes
Nah BMW is ok. Only problem is when u try to service at non offical service shop. I man KTM is the worst of all europian bikes and is not on the least from meintance prespective. So this video is like old top gear. Good for eaintrtaining and that is all. Also my father ride BMW and have no problem at all, aslo his friends. Regarding Ducati new ones are god.

Royal Enfield should be on the top of this list
Luv Kumar
I was a tech at a dealership that sold Enfield and will testify to their lack of reliability and horrible lack of manufacture support.
There is local colloquialism in India used by Ensfield techs, “see you again some time in the same day”.
This kind of humor usually aggravates me but you make it work. Keep up the good work!
I've put 8k miles on my 16 Daytona 675, the only issue I have had was the oil pan gasket started leaking around 3k, which got fixed under warranty. Other than that, the bike has been amazing, 10/10 would buy a second one
20 years later my 998 has NEVER left me hanging
The only issue I've ever experienced with Ducati was a regulator failure on a 748
You don't do your maintenance anything can fail
Good thing Aprilia and MV Agusta didn't make it on the list. I'm getting one of each and will never have to be in the shop.
Ah, the devil is in the details. Consumer reports makes no designation on “failure”, which leads to the same exact issue with cars. BMW and Harley are down here due to the touring bikes. Remember, in CR world, your radio not connecting to Bluetooth is the same as a drivetrain failure. Electric windshield sticks and you go to the dealer, failure.
Aside from Triumph (yikes), the rest of these bikes manufactures sell extremely electronic bikes, that tend to fail/work wrong/glitch. Just remember, CR reliability has zero to do with actual reliability (stuck on the side of the road), and is just total incidents requiring a trip to the dealer.

Not even close. Whereas it may look quite ugly to some (aka: most), it's still a Yamaha and ergo reliable. Other than that, it also has plenty positive riding reviews by several different and unlinked magazines and what not.

I was expecting to see KTM on this list
Why?
On my last repair on my 2006 BMW R1200RT, the dealer wanted $4K for a starter/flywheel swap. They created an issue in the process where the bike revved uncontrollably.
After months of back and forth, I decided to cut my losses and purchased a new Yamaha R3 for $5K. I've had it as my daily driver with over 25K miles and I would not change it for the world!

I had a seemingly incurable hard-on for Ducati until I owned 2 of them and suffered accordingly. However, I maintain that a Ducati Sport 1000 with Termignoni exhaust is the best sounding bike I have ever heard, and the style points went off the chart. Those along with badge appeal are the (only) attributes I miss. More recently I'm a steadfast supporter of team Suzuki & team Kawasaki. I have no regrets either way.
Ah yes. The Can-Am. It is our shame. Please forgive us for this atrocity.

part of owning an older bmw touring bike is wrenching on it... have a 96 r1100rt for 2 years now, allready had to replace crankshaft position sensor and both cilinder head gaskets, but so fun to ride, even for a sporty rider like me, not too hard to keep up with the average 600 sportbike riders, and with comfort too.
Be sure to keep up your maintenance schedule on trans and final drive. And save your pennies for when you have to change the clutch. Still, I do love my 06 71K mile R1200GS. Wait.. weren't Harley also last (5th) place on the most reliable list? Now I don't remember that entire list except the big 4 was on it along with Harley and one brand i don't remember (6 brands, something about a tied 2nd).. anyway, if I'm right we lack atleast two of KTM, Aprilia, and Husqvarna? And what about Ural? Indian? EBR?
I realize some of those might be to "rare" to be part of a relevant list, but I also feel some of them are way to common to not be relevant too
I was thinking the same thing. The 4th most reliable was Victory. A company that went out of business, so I would say KTM, Aprilia, Husqvarna, Indian, Ural and maybe even MV Agusta should have been mentioned. I guess there are only 10 manufacturers now. He is getting this from consumer reports, so maybe we should blame them.
almost seems like the 2 videos contains the 10 best between them, in which case Harley is number 6, since with 2 in second place there is 5 above, and should not really be a third place on it..
