Packing cubes are a godsend for cross packing. I pack a whole outfit in each cube and throw some in my husband's case and vice versa. If one of our bags doesn’t make it ... trip saved!
I fly long haul international several times a year. I’ve tried ALL the neck pillows and the foot hammock. I hate them all. I agree with almost everything you said. Love my compression cubes. I dress in layers. I always wear pants on a plane. I wear a tank/Tshirt with a cardigan over it. I have never needed a blanket. I often use the airline pillow for lumbar support. I try to avoid bringing many liquids so I use solid bar shampoo. I do use reusable squeeze bottles for my conditioner. I must be a 1%er because I do use face masks and eye patches on the plane! I don’t sleep on planes and my skin gets dry so after the plane is dark and everyone is asleep, I bust out my mask/patches. It helps me feel better. And, frankly, I don’t care what anyone else thinks. 😂
Lol I can't really sleep on planes either. So maybe that's why I refuse to lug around a neck pillow. I've had quite a few people in the comments here say they use face masks and eye patches so you're not the only one lol. I just picture Mrs. Doubtfire in my mind when I think about it. "helllooooo" lol.
Agree with you. My pants are cinched at ankle or calf. Wide leg pants on the bathroom floor, yuck. I always use my barefoot dreams cardigan, and it works perfectly whether as a jacket, blanket or pillow.
I am staying at a friend's house for 2 weeks. I do travel with towels. She recycles towels for every shower. I use the towel once and then wash it. So as a good guest, I bring 3 so I can shower and not increase her wash loads. When I wash my clothes, I'll wash my towels. 🙂
It's important to be considerate and be a good house guest. If you're flying 3 towels takes up a lot of space though, if driving then it's not a big deal.
@@ThickGirlzGuide They are the micro towels. They suck up a lot of water but not a lot of room. If you can, it is off-topic. Where on Amazon did you find your camis? I don't remember which video you mentioned them Thanks! 🙂
I use the compression cubes now. But i did try the packing cubes. Pretty much used the packing ones for bras, panties and socks. Compression cubes were a game changer for me. Thanks for the tips. I agree on most all the stuff. I did use the heck out of the travel neck pillow.... between air and car travel. I just need to find one that is washable. I know they have them now but im not traveling as much...so probably don't need it. That goofy foot rest...😂😂😂... definitely a no. Thanks for the great tips!
Glad it was helpful! Compression cubes are so much better than regular packing cubes in my opinion. If you use the neck pillow then absolutely bring it, I can't sleep on planes. If we're going down, I needs to know lol.
I travel with a Turkish towel that acts as a scarf/ shawl, a blanket and a towel. They pack down so small but you can also wear them as a scarf into the plane
A use case for your own towel is a microfibre towel for your hair - if you have frizzy or curly hair you know what I'm talking about. the great thing about microfibre towels is that they can be very light and pack up really small and they dry quickly.
This is also what someone else said with curly fine hair, so that makes sense. She was also saying she uses it as a blanket on the plane so definitely maximizing what she is bringing.
People bring their own towels cause for beach resort trips the towels given are not always clean and /or u get just one which u clip to your chair so u use ur own to dry off etc… and many more reasons… microfiber ones are very packable and dry quickly and are great! Compression cubes im a true believer after ive seen people having to unload their undies at security etc.. and it prevents bed bugs or any bugs get into your clothes etc…
I've never been to a resort or hotel that limits towels, but if someone wants to bring a towel and that makes them more comfortable, then go for it. And I don't think packing cubes are going to prevent bed bugs, if the room is infested then they are in the bed, carpet etc. When dirty laundry or PJ's hit the floor/bed and are put back into your luggage when you leave then those things are getting into everything. But again, if people prefer to use them when traveling then that's ok, you 've got to do what works best for you.
Towels.. only 4* or 5* hotels provide 'pool towels' in UK and Europe, the towel from the room are for use for the shower/bath, therefore if you use that 1 (they only give 1 per person) for the pool, you wont have a dry towel to then use after your shower. I've started to carry one of those very thin/linen ones as an extra as take up no room, but if we stay 4*/5* we rent the hotel pool towels, and I fully agree, they take up way too much room. from the UK
If you're doing hostels you must byo (or pay extra). Personally, if I'm travelling in summer I like to bring a scarf that's long enough to use as a sarong or even a towel in a pinch. Can be very versatile, multiple uses (even wrapping up breakable items on way home)
I bought some wheels covers (different from yours). I had no problem with the wheels rolling and my case rolled like a dream and was much quieter on my hardwood floor.
Hopefully quieter going over cobblestones as well. I'm convinced this is 1 of the many things Europeans hate about tourists - the inconsiderateness of dragging suitcases over cobblestones in the early morning to make an early flight
I am with several others about the packing cubes. I had used them on several trips and was at a point I was ready to give up on them. Then came my aha moment. Packed concourse, lines of people going overseas and at 4 of the counters were people scrambling to get their luggage under the weight limit (those pesky souvenirs can get hefty!). Our turn came and dang, my bag was heavier than I thought. Popped the suitcase open, pulled out my two heaviest cubes and weighed them, popped them into another bag and done! No one watched my undies or other clothes being scooted around, it was calm, easy and quick. That trip made me a packing cube believer. So my take away was make sure I pack my luggage scale and use my compression cubes and my trip will be much easier
Lol, this reminds me of my mom and I flying back from Hawaii and her suitcase was overstuffed and she had to pull a bunch of junk out. I use compression packing cubes but not regular packing cubes, but either way my mom could have benefitted either one in this scenario. I swear by my luggage scale, so I never have this issue. It's a life saver!
I always bring a towel because the ones provided by a cruise are so big and bulky and get heavy when they are wet, plus you can’t just easily put it in your bag. I take a thin, quick drying towel.
A Pashmina is a better option imo bcos can also be quite dressy if needed and is warmer than a Turkish towel if a blanket is needed. Some travel vloggers also recommend a silk scarf 🤷♀️
My take on packing cubes vs compression cubes- if your suitcase already includes a compression system or you are a roll packer, there isn’t much to compress. It’s just gonna have more of a pinched the edges a bit. The downside is that compression cubes usually don’t open all the way around and a huge reason I love them is unzipping the whole cube and popping it on a shelf or in a drawer. I can pack or unpack my bags in five minutes perfectly tidy and organized.
See I would unpack the packing cube lol, not work out of it. So that's why they don't make sense for me. I have never seen a suitcase with a compression system, only the strap to help it not shift around. So, I'll have to look into that.
@@ThickGirlzGuide I used to unpack into the hotel drawers until I learned from housekeepers, that they don't clean or disinfect the drawers when cleaning the room. I do travel with Lysol wipes. But when I thought about other people using the drawers to stash dirty laundry I now wipe out the drawers but use my cubes in the drawers for any clothing I am not hanging. Also for my smaller items. Some travers are not very clean. 🙂
I use a blow up neck pillow, I can put more or less air in it for comfort and also can use as a lumbar support with just a small amount of air. Bonus is if I don’t want to use it it stays deflated and takes up no space
I always use my footrest for overseas travel. My legs are short and I have terrible knee pain if I do not use them. It is my “special” item and worth it to me.
Ok interesting, I didn't know it helps with circulation and leg swelling, that would make more sense to use in that situation. Compression socks I can absolutely see the use in wearing on a long flight or if someone has bad circulation as well.
Good channel! I agree with all you said except packing cubes. I love them and I don’t unpack enough to put stuff in drawers that may not be clean! I bring a face mask and use it on my first night after a long flight. My little treat. Haven’t done it in flight!
HAd a long haul flight to dubai from nyc (12 hours) for a blanket i used a large full body micro fibre towel ( rolled up like to the size of a burrito ) was also able to wash it in my hotel sink and use it for the pool and water park on my trip I will be doing that from now on as it was a 2 in one! Kept me warm on the plane and was able to to dry my skin
Agree on most of these. I took a neck pillow once. It was such a nuisance to carry and then wasn’t comfy anyway. I usually bring a pashmina for a pillow or blanket if I need. And layers. I never take towels either. I feel if I really need it I can buy one at my destination. Haven’t need to do so in any of my trips. I do love packing cubes though. I have small ones and pack a days worth of clothes and underwear in each one. Then I can just grab one put per day. No going through 3 different cubes each day. Thanks for the video.
Interesting way to use packing cubes that I never thought of. I get super irritated with having to carry a bunch of junk when traveling, so I know I would literally throw a neck pillow and a blanket in the trash instead of carrying it around lol.
I don't use packing cubes, but that's cos I use laundry delicates bags instead. That way I have delicates bags on hand if/when I have access to a washing machine
Agree on most of what you listed except two: Packing cubes: Been using thrm for awhile & I like how I can organize my clothes (e.g. tops in one cube, pants in another cube) Towels: I prefer my own towel, large & some fluff plus its clean. Many hotel towels are thin & who knows how they clean them! 😄
I do have the pillow/blanket that I use in travel. The one time I didn't take it we had to sleep in the airport and it was freezing so now I always take it. Plus it is nice to have as a throw in a hotel room.
I'd suggest taking a Pashmina. It's not wise to pack 'just in case' items. But a large Pashmina can squish down very small but be surprisingly warm and function as an accessory throughout your trip (if nothing else - and many travel vloggers will give you lots of ideas for the various ways these can be put to good use)
For my upcoming long haul flights I got a hallow/ empty neck pillow with a slight strap that's adjustable. In stuffing it with scarves and my compression socks for the plane and a few other things I won't need to take out on the plane so it stays full but it's also holding my scarves I will use as a blanket
i have the wheel covers and no issues. Maybe the ones you purchased had treads. Mine have a flat tread. When I go on a week vacation I bringing a towel. I hate the hotel towels, stiff and not big enough.
@@ThickGirlzGuide Definitely look for the ones without treads. I have them on all of mine that have double wheels. They also make the standard black or blue suitcases easier to spot on the carousel if you have pink or purple wheel covers.
FYI- flight attendants agree that the plane blankets aren’t cleaned between flights. Gross! So, unless you’re the first person to use the blanket, you have no idea what’s on that blanket. If you’re on a long haul flight it’s a good idea to just bring your own blanket.
Completely agree on all these. I’ve found that most travel items tend to just take up a ton of space and are generally only “useful” for people who check bags or don’t care about luggage weight. Like, a 3-day trip? Sure, bring your neck pillow and foot hammock and towel and 15 pairs of heels for costume changes for your IG reel and lug it to your single destination in a taxi. But a 3-week+ trip with a suitcase full of plus size clothes, pjs, undies, shoes, and maybe a cpap or work-related electronics plus a bunch of bs “travel must-haves”, and maybe multiple destinations using public transport or high speed trains or budget airlines? No way in hell. So much of these “must haves” are for IG aesthetics or people who travel in 1st class and for some reason need the full comforts of being on their couch for the whole 6 hours of their flight. Tres tres bizarre.
Exactly! It's no joke trying to lug a bunch of stuff around on a long trip. You have to maximize what you bring and ensure you will really use it/wear it multiple times.
Totally agree. I’m an over packer and even being that way I can clearly see how unnecessary these things are coming from influencers who get commission on every recommendation. Plus some prices are just ridiculous and they don’t even mention the thing anymore.
I have a travel eye mask that connects to the pillow on the plane seat back. It’s awesome! Takes very little space but keeps my head upright while I sleep. I also bring a large wrap to use as a blanket on the plane and I use it during my trip at restaurants when I get cold. I love my compression cubes for packing.
Great tip! I have never seen a sleep mask that connects to the seat back, so I'll have to look for that. Love using the wrap as a blanket and then you can use it while on your trip so it has more than one purpose. Compression cubes are the way to go for sure!
One reason I bet not many people will think of for bringing your own towel, scent sensitivity, which I have. Fabric softener and most things scented with synthetic perfumes give me a headache, sometimes a full blown migraine. I can maybe dab some water off my body real quick without transfering too much scent, but I cannot use a normal towel to get water out of my hair without tons of transfer. The towel I travel with is a turkish towel though, much more compact than a regular towel.
I always travel with a neck pillow. It adds to my inflight comfort and it’s easy to snap on my carry on handle, AND I use it to supplement the hotel pillow.
I see people recommend the tray table covers that have a pocket in the front, they look like made of polyester . Seems unnecessary to me i just clorox the table.
If you're the sort of person who takes resistance bands travelling (for workouts) anyway, then you can easily diy a foot travel hammock. I've done this, works. And resistance bands take up very little space
I do take a beach towel with me. 9/10 times there aren't enough towels at hotel pools. Plus, I'm a big girl they are tiny. I do bring my blanket with as well. I am a side sleeper and put my blanket between my legs so i dont wake up stiff and sore. Again, usually, if i ask for an extra blanket at a hotel, they dont have any left.
Gotcha, you have to do what makes you most comfortable when traveling. These items just take up too much room in my suitcase and/or I don't want to lug this stuff around.
Yes I always bring a couple of small microfibre cloths - 1 as washcloth, 1 for general cleaning eg. wiping down boots/shoes, spot cleaning a jacket etc. Both are always well used, but I do tend to take long trips so things tend to require more upkeep after a few weeks
I agree about the neck pillow. HOWEVER, I like to travel with the soft pillowcase from a neck pillow - that has a zipper to get inside, and a snap holding the ends together. I’ll stuff the case with my hoodie, scarf etc. so I (1) have a pillow for neck or back coming and going. (2) have a pillow between my knees at night (3) snaps to my suitcase if I don’t have room for the hoodie/scarf in my carry on only luggage. Win/Win
Yeah… except they’re HUGE!! Even when empty. I’m like you, and don’t want to carry anything extra around - the regular pillow case flattens like an envelope
I bought the wheel covers as a way to identify my luggage (I don’t want a luggage coverage and prefer my black luggage) and mine work great. Mine don’t have the ridges in them like in the picture so they roll real smoothly.
My sister brings her own towel because she has an issue with germs. She also recleans her bathroom once in the room. I like packing cubes for items im not hanging up, like under garments and socks. Guess I don't trust what has been in the drawers, if that is even an option. Ive had hotel rooms without dresser drawers before. I like to unpack and repack as I wear my clothes.
That would make it really easy to have a cube with undergarments to be able to pop right into a drawer. And I do like the idea of repacking stuff once you are no longer going to be wearing it. So good tip!
I sometimes patch clean certain areas in my hotel room - the area around the drinks station, my bedside table, the area of bathroom vanity I'll most use. Getting sick while you're travelling is no joke
Instead of packing cubes, I use a reusable cloth shopping bag and a cloth clutch purse to corral some of my clothes and small items. Then I can use them at my destination.
I use laundry delicates bags. I tend to need my cloth shopping bags, even on travel days - like to keep them handy (I wear my heaviest, bulkiest items on the plane but this often means I'm changing into these at the airport before I get to the gate, so I stash them in a cloth bag before then)
How people vacation is very personal. I always travel with a towl, and so does everyone in my family. I like a certain towl to remove my makeup, and my husband is a bigger guy, and we find the hotel towes are too small. I take a neck pillow with me on every flight and never have to hold it.. I attached it to my backpack. I also use an eye mask on the plane. I did agree with all the other stuff.
I have an inflatable pillow that rolls up into the size of a burrito. It allows me to lean my head to one side and then goes across my body so I can kinda “hug” it to hold it in place. Gives me the perfect sleeping position given that I only fly in window seats. I also take a shawl or sweatshirt-type jacket because I undoubtedly wind up getting cold in that window seat & there’s no way in hell I’ll use those community blankets on the plane unless I’m flying business or 1st class in a lay-flat seat. I also love packing cubes, compression & otherwise - I have ADHD & they help me get and stay organized, especially because I don’t like to fully unpack depending on where I’m going due to concerns about bed bugs. And finally I have 100% used face masks on planes! I have a 13 hour flight in two days have already packed them. On such a long flight, the air is so very, very dry, and why not treat myself when I already have the things at home. Somehow I always wind up getting them as gifts. I’ve used them right in economy; I’m no influencer & I don’t give a damn who’s looking at me, lol, but for sure when I’m in business class or higher.
The inflatable pillows make the most sense since they do get pretty compact. Layering is a much better option than bringing a blanket and I don't blame you for not wanting to use the airplane ones lol. And lmao, you're a brave soul using the face masks. I am pretty confident and don't think I'd do it lol, but more power to you!
Agree on everything but disagree with the packing cubes: what people normally do is to keep their clothes inside them, no need to take them out, plus they’re a lifesaver in the rare case your luggage needs to be checked manually. Being a mom of two it’s also easier to keep the hotel room organized and keep their stuff organized by color.
I can see the use of them if you just want to keep everything in the suitcase and work out of that. I have to empty my suitcase and hang up most things etc. So they don't make sense for me.
I bring my own wrap towel with snaps when I’m going to be sharing a hotel room with girlfriends. Putting a bra on immediately after a shower is no fun!
Agree on everything with 2 exceptions. I have a zippered stuffable neck pillow I always take (empty) with me so if I want to purchase something I just fill it with some of my clothes on my trip home and make more room in my luggage. And second I always take a thin microfiber towel with me and this is non negotiable! My hair is naturally curly and fine and there’s no way I’d let a regular towel touch it! 😂 But it folds up tiny and I also use it as a blanket during the flight
That's a good tip for the stuff able neck pillow, especially if you're doing carry on only. And as long as you're using the towel for multiple purposes and it's very compact then that makes sense.
Packing cubes are a godsend for cross packing. I pack a whole outfit in each cube and throw some in my husband's case and vice versa. If one of our bags doesn’t make it ... trip saved!

Towels: I prefer my own towel, large & some fluff plus its clean. Many hotel towels are thin & who knows how they clean them! 😄
Thanks for sharing, I just think a towel takes up so much space that could be used for other things. So I'm ok with using the cruise or hotel towels
I wonder if the hanging foot rest bothers the person sitting in front of you by putting too much pressure on the tray table.
Hummm maybe if the person using it was shifting around a lot. But if they are pretty still it's probably ok
I do have the pillow/blanket that I use in travel. The one time I didn't take it we had to sleep in the airport and it was freezing so now I always take it. Plus it is nice to have as a throw in a hotel room.
EEK that does not sound like a good time and probably would have been good to have in that scenario.
I also have the leg hammock. I like it for long haul flights in economy seats. I wouldn't take it on shorter flight.
Good to know, it's just too much for me to carry around personally.
For my upcoming long haul flights I got a hallow/ empty neck pillow with a slight strap that's adjustable. In stuffing it with scarves and my compression socks for the plane and a few other things I won't need to take out on the plane so it stays full but it's also holding my scarves I will use as a blanket
Good tip!
i have the wheel covers and no issues. Maybe the ones you purchased had treads. Mine have a flat tread.
When I go on a week vacation I bringing a towel. I hate the hotel towels, stiff and not big enough.
Ok, I will have to look for some different wheel covers then, I was so excited about them! Lol
I can understand not wanting to use the airplane blankets, but I'd just dress in layers, so I don't have to lug a blanket around.
I use the foot hammock sling on all long haul flights...game changer!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great point! That makes sense, one of my cousins was allergic to fabric softener. So, I can see having to be careful about this when traveling.
Footrest is good if you are a short person. I use it all the time.
That makes sense
I always travel with a neck pillow. It adds to my inflight comfort and it’s easy to snap on my carry on handle, AND I use it to supplement the hotel pillow.
Ahhh interesting use I never thought of for a neck pillow!
I see people recommend the tray table covers that have a pocket in the front, they look like made of polyester . Seems unnecessary to me i just clorox the table.
I agree, I bring antibacterial wipes and spray sanitizer. No need for that tray table cover.
I use the foot rest and neck pillow on long international flights. I also use a neck pillow on car trips (when not driving).
You got to do what makes you comfortable, that's just too much stuff for me to lug around personally.
If you're the sort of person who takes resistance bands travelling (for workouts) anyway, then you can easily diy a foot travel hammock.
I've done this, works. And resistance bands take up very little space
Great tip!
I don't bring towels but I do bring wash cloths. Most EU hotels don't supply them.
At least wash cloths are pretty small
Yes I always bring a couple of small microfibre cloths - 1 as washcloth, 1 for general cleaning eg. wiping down boots/shoes, spot cleaning a jacket etc.
Both are always well used, but I do tend to take long trips so things tend to require more upkeep after a few weeks
Neck pillows and travel blankets are great for 24--48 hour train coach travel along with a sheet to cover the seat.
Yeah, that's too much junk for me to lug around personally. But if that's what makes you comfortable then go for it.
Win/Win
I have recently seen the neck pillows that you can stuff with clothing item, these make more sense for sure!
Yeah… except they’re HUGE!! Even when empty. I’m like you, and don’t want to carry anything extra around - the regular pillow case flattens like an envelope
Creative and helpful tips. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I bought the wheel covers as a way to identify my luggage (I don’t want a luggage coverage and prefer my black luggage) and mine work great. Mine don’t have the ridges in them like in the picture so they roll real smoothly.
That's what a few people have said, so maybe I will have to try a different kind.
@@ThickGirlzGuidegot mine from SHEIN or Temu. Both have them.
Great tip! You have to maximize everything you pack!
Exactly, what works for one person may not for another. You just have to do and use what makes you most comfortable when traveling.
Went to Nigeria a few weeks ago on an 11 hour flight and definitely put on a hydrating face mask. In front of everyone. Without a care in the world 🙂
LOL more power to you, I could never bring myself to do it. You have more confidence than I do, and I am pretty confident lol.
Yes, I have seen people use them. It’s crazy! 😂
Are you talking about the face masks?? Lol
On my last cruise, the bathroom towels were so thin and smelled absolutely disgusting. So next month I’ll be taking a hair towel to dry off
EEK...well hopefully your next cruise will be better
Surely you mean a MAXIMUM of 3 pairs of shoes and not a MINIMUM?
Yes, I mean maximum! Lol more than that is too much
I think we should have another episode of 10 thing we should not to fo in summer time..?
Sorry, 10 things we should not what in the summer?
I bring my own wrap towel with snaps when I’m going to be sharing a hotel room with girlfriends. Putting a bra on immediately after a shower is no fun!
That is true lol
I bring my own towel when I'll be on my period.
Yeah, I can see how that might make you more comfortable during that time of the month.
I have a small dark red microfibre cloth I take, just to dry that area. Then I can use the provided towel for everything else. Takes up far less space
