It's cool this is an option but it's tough to justify over the alternatives. If I'm going to bother doing this I'm going all out with battery size and the motor. After doing that and buying the bike you get pretty close to the price of the Varg.
enjoying Bayos review and observations! When I look at the kit and battery location, it does leave me wondering. Can electro and Co. make an L-shaped battery to get the weight lower in the frame? I understand it may limit swap-ability, yet lower cog is great thing to strive towards in the evolution of this product.
the battery in this kit is L shaped, both the lower and higher spec battery are the same size and shape, just different cells inside. not sure if this answers your question but hope it helps!
The battery is and L shape which comes up and over the shock tower. You end up sitting on some of the battery essentially and this moves the weight back to maintain proper distribution unlike most conversion kits or bikes. At 242 lbs we feel we have it pretty maxed out and placed as best as possible in order to keep the bikes weight in check and where it should be.
There are no off-the-shelf clutch assemblies, only electric motors and batteries. These conversion outfits don't have the resources to engineer and manufacture a clutch or a gearbox.
Maybe so, but you have to consider the trade-offs when incorporating a clutch. With a clutch you're adding more parts (ie cost), more weight, and decreasing efficiency (every time that motor spools up it also has to contend with the inertia of the clutch assembly). You also don't get the same flywheel effect on electric that you do on a gas motor, which is really what makes the clutch useful. At the end of the day, the benefits are small and the detriments are large, which is why you don't see one on this bike or any comparable bikes like the Varg.
Definitely interested for '25...if i can find the right low hour, vet owned garage queen, i may do this over anything else. Really like what this bike has to offer.
The YZ-EMX is hands down best feeling bike. Yamaha already mastered the body and feel. .. now it’s electric! Even better. Easy to ride and learn. Not even a year of riding and I feel so much more confident Turing my 2022 yz into ELECTRIC !! ⚡️ If you like electric. And have a Yamaha… what are you waiting for !??.. get it !
They said this conversions bike weighs about 242 lbs. So how much did the original 2021 YZF weigh with a full tank ? Not familiar with YZ Yamaha models. Did it come with electric or kick start ?
My conversion gets 20-25 miles (depending on terrain) on single track trails with the 72v 51ah battery running at 150a (which is all the power most would need on a trail). In the configuration we tested on the YZ-EMX with a 76v 75ah battery, I would guess that the range would be 35-40 miles max.
Unfortunately there is no magic as we like to say. Getting a controller, motor and battery that rivals an Alta MXR has a cost. When you’re all said and done with this, you’ll be saving quite a bit of money over a Stark and your bike is 20 pounds lighter with a swappable battery.
You can cobble this together a lot cheaper if you want to do all the fab work yourself too. The advantage over the stark is the piece parts are super inexpensive to replace from China.
That’s what this kind of thing costs, you couldn’t do it much cheaper. ICE bikes cost 7-12k these days, breathing new life into a tired bike you already have for 5k is a pretty good deal.
It's not messing up a good thing. I would never say that you should buy a perfectly good ICE bike and rip the motor out. This is for aging motors that are on their way out. Either rebuild it for $2000-$4000 or spend that on a completely new drive system that needs comparatively low maintenance in fantastic chassis. I did my conversion with a rolling chassis that I found on FB for $1000.
It is different. The bike we tested is in the 2019-2023 generation YZ250F frame (aka 2018-2022 YZ450F frame). BUT you're in luck because Electro & Co are about release the same kit for the 2014-2018 gen YZ250F frame (aka 2014-2017 YZ450f frame) !
The battery actually extends underneath the seat to better balance the bike. You could make a larger battery that takes up that space in the front, but the bike would end up being front end heavy. Not a huge deal for trail riders, but it wouldn't feel great in the air. Also would add another 5-10 lbs.

How cool! Thanks for informitive video.
Thanks great video!

Bayo is the man! We'll let E&C answer that but would vote for lighter weight + easy swappable + more affordable vs. more battery down low. Thoughts?

Great vid👍🏼
Please tell me you tested and rode the new etm rtr ? And if so is there a video coming soon! Cheers
In progress! 🙌
Pro circuit linkage will fix the under steer.
And no phone call! LOL You guy's were 15min from my door! Would like to see it at mmx sand track. BRAAAP
E Street was on the short list! 🤘
I think EV bikes like this would be more easily adopted if they would incorporate a clutch.

Greetings! what electric motor are you using? controller? battery?

Just saw where Zero has release 2 offroad electric dirt bike. Can you check them out and make a video?
Badass video! Badass bike 🔥🔥
just finished converting 2011 YZ450 with Qs138v3 - 51 ah Chi battery - have 400 miles on it - way more fun to ride - fast and Quite
Awesome!
Quiet😉

With the kit starting at $5k and goes up from there... No gracias
You can get a yz roller for 1.5k all around for 7-8 grand, stark level power and characteristics
I’d take this bike over a new $12,000 250 but 🤷♂️

The Yamahas are sooo good. Why mess up a good thing ?

OMG THIS THING IS FREAKING AWESOME!
Anyone else love Tuckers videos but wish UA-cam did 3x playback speed?
Can you ship these to uk ?
Yes
If it fit a WR frame also, making it street legal, I'd be interested.
It does 👌
Come on now, what!? I've got a 2017 $500 YZ250F roller in my garage. I wonder what is different on this chassis.

I'd rather put a CR500 ENGINE in a YZF chassis.
Honestly, that sounds like a great plan too. 👍
How does that song go… Good good good, good vibrations😅
@@Surfratglass I'm sure you'll remember the words when it's a YZ490 swap.
Looks like a great option, just need to fill that void in front of the motor with more battery for the off-road guys.

Flash their controller first
Why is ktm to dumb to do this? And no I don’t mean a freeride e
For some reason this video I just wasn't able to pay attention to.
😮💨 Too much going on. Sorry.
Slow and heavy
Not awesome. Lame
